  2. Every model fails at some point eventually when new data comes in that doesn't fit.
  3. Newtonian gravity is descibed as a force. GR is curved spacetime and Quantum Gravity has it mediated by graviton particles. GR comes up short below Planck level and QG comes up short at the macro level, so which level you look at determines which you use. This is the 'domain of applicability'.
  4. Collective memory loss. Reports suggest this is going to be drawn out over days, so I won't be staying up here in the UK.
  5. What I find disturbing under the justice-legal and political systems your side is people are always trying to find ways around the law. The UK system is not great by any means, but we don't seem to get litigation everytime something changes, just to see if it will stick. Brexit was probably the messiest and most litigious situation here that I can remember, finally ending up in the Supreme Court. THe UKSC cases rarely headline and in such a protracted manner as the US system.
  6. Correction noted. Ta. Watching this and the PBS's Battle for Ukraine (requires Google sign in here) has given me more of an understanding of nationalist groups, and the history and catalysts behind their formation. I think it would be fair to say the Europe-centric part is pretty damn indomitable.
  7. This is a quite riveting showing of the Euromaiden protests in 2013-2014. It's quite hard to watch at times but it really gives a feeling of the determination of the people there. You need 90 minutes to watch it through.
  8. It's his biggest fear. When he visited a famous military cemetry as President, might have been Arlington, he regarded the fallen as 'losers'.
  9. If he wants the civilians out, does this look like a prelude to another scorched Earth attack on Kherson?
  10. If it can be measured, it's science.
  11. Have you noticed Trump often/always gives himself some escape space in case what he says comes back on him? He rarely commits. https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewsolender/2020/05/22/all-the-times-trump-promoted-hydroxychloroquine/
  12. Yes, he appears to be a potentially bigger problem. The biggest problem Trump has caused, I think, is that his tenure has given confidence to people that wouldn't otherwise have run.
  13. Ah well, I'm trying! Trump's company is now under compulsory anti-fraud monitoring... there's hope.
  14. If De Santis, Pence and others run on the Republican presidential ticket, will that dilute Trump's vote tally if he runs?
  15. How much habitat was flooded to make it?
  16. What we are seeing looks like brinkmanship on the part of the Russians, I think.
  17. Is steadily lowering their yield making them more likely to be used? Is there a case for specifying a minimum yield in a treaty between adversaries?
  18. I forgot pectin was in the equation.
  19. Manufacturing is one expense, and making them to fine tolerances is another. Accuracy cost money. You got the high and low tolerance meanings the wrong way. 'Low tolerance' is the high accuracy stuff.... as in having a low tolerance for errors.
  20. It's cool stuff. I'm tops with Zaphon.
  21. China has already been taken to task for that because of the orbital debris it causes, if you remember. It seems more and more that Putin is ideologically bound to the idea that Ukraine is an inseparable part of Russia. On my earlier comment about taking out satellites:
  22. Russia appears to be airing the idea of taking out our satellites that help the Ukrainians. Will that cross any militarily agreed red lines?
  23. Try UK politics atm. In fact, look at the state of a lot of international governments. I'm not sure I've seen so much political/existential turmoil in my life
  24. If one don't know the whys and wherefores of distilling and go the pure sugar yeast and water route, methanol poisoning will probably be the outcome.
  25. I have a strong interest in the gut microbiome, but my ignorance of organic chemistry is stumping further progress. Can anybody suggest any good primer titles to get me started. My current level of inorganic'physical chemistry is around 17-18 year old student stuff. It's probably a bit more now as a 60 year old but that's the general idea. @hypervalent_iodine @CharonY
