  1. RG isn't anti-any minority. It's important to him to not discriminate, so every group gets it whenever his humour takes him there... he is equal in his piss-taking. I think that's fair. We need humour and astutely observed ridicule is part of it.
  2. You need to go and learn some science. This post tells me everything I need to know what you know, and it's very little.
  3. It's not possible to detect anything that has less than a quantum of energy i.e. virtual particles . AFAIK we can infer their existence when two occasionally combine to make the necessary quantum in the form of detectable particle.
  4. It isn't whether it's logical or not, what interests physicists is lots of maths... that is their language.
  5. There's no maths in it for a start, so a physicist wouldn't give it a second glance.
  6. An example of the size of the task: Suppose we aim for Alpha Proxima, as it's 'only' 3.2LYRs away. Suppose we had a rocket that could travel a million mph. It'll take us 19 200 000 years to get there... and we've got to slow down as well before we arrive, so delta v to consider as well. Can you see a generation ship and its occupants lasting 19 million years? It's poppycock according to what we know now. You know this already as we've been over it umpteen times in the last 10 years or so. All swansont should have to say to you is 'physics' and you should by now know what he means.
  7. Because of the morons that don't get vaccinated. Where is the virus going to mutate to learn to bypass the protection of people already immune to existing virus strains? People like you. People like you are the problem.
  8. Anti-vax evangelist on a mission to spread lies, half-truths and doubt.
  9. Kristi Noem and MTG make me think of fascists. I know more about US politicians than I do British ones. Something wrong there. Noem is even trying to influence the primaries for her favoured local candidates... one of which happens to be her old babysitter. Gotta say Phi, the US system is corrupt as **** atm. Why do the gun lobby need guns in a country full of 'patriots'? Why do the gun lobby need to protect themselves from their 'fellow Americans'? From afar, the dissonance on this is really pronounced.
  10. @CharonY I suppose an issue I glean from your links, is that researchers belonging to an ethnic group see more variation within their own group than those outside their group, leading either side to treat other less familiar groups in a more monolithic, stereotyped way, which is reflected in research results.
  11. Until someone finds a method/principle that sorts out the physical problems of travelling surviving astronomical distances , it's no more plausible than Star Trek. You can't assume that they aren't bound by the same physical constraints that we are. We may as well assume God exists. I can accept that aliens exist, but I can't accept, in the light of present scientific knowledge, that we have the means to make either aware of the other.
  12. What's wrong with this? This one hints at body dimensions, but is less conclusive:
  13. @iNowWhat I was saying earlier about Russian's depleting resources:
  14. I'll try and watch them all. Thanks.
  15. lol Are they doing it everyday in the week? That lasted two hours. I can handle that.
  16. They could try that again, in black areas in conservative-controlled districts where gun-nuts are clamouring for open-carry. Loan every black American a Colt 45 and holster. Gun control may well become top of the NRA/ Republican agenda again. I'm not kidding, I reckon they'd do a 180 pronto.
  17. I watched the beginning. Cheney does speaking well. She doesn't look like she's reading, like the others so far.
  18. Yeah, I watched it. If this doesn't open peoples minds I don't know what will. I think it's going to be hard to watch some of it. No guesses where Donald is right now.
  19. It's just started today. Here it is on YT. For the UK it looks like it starts at 1am and will last a few weeks.
  20. Theory is a good as it gets. You don't have a theory until it's recognised as one by qualified others. At best you have a hypothesis, regardless of how solid you think it is. Your peers decide, not you.
  21. He's already said why in that same post: physics.
  22. Not correct, mutation is a spontaneous corruption of part of the genetic information somewhere on a DNA/RNA strand caused by some environmental factor, which could be caused by a virus. When viruses replaces a host cell's genetic information, it's called 'molecular hacking'.
  23. I don't think Kim has expansionist aspirations. I think his issue is just an existential one for the continuity of his family dynasty. His isolation feeds his paranoia. Militarily, Russia's forces are depleting and it probably wouldn't require all of NATO's resources to deal with them, some of which can be directed to contain China.
  24. In science beliefs are worthless because it requires evidence and logical rigor for anyones thoughts or ideas to pass its scrutiny and be generally accepted. Religion and God is not falsifiable, which means there is no test we can perform, or even concieve of one, to verify the veracity of religious ideas. There are good scientists that have religious beliefs, but they don't mix them up. Their respective functions in peoples lives are different and for the most part irreconcilable. There is nothing to gain for the two modes of thought to cross swords. .
