  1. I like that there is a little bit of mess because it indicates that individual freedom of thought is well-catered for, up to a sensible point. There are 'better' forums in the sense that rigor is more enforced, but I think they are more for the dedicated and academic that want it strict. Also, I think everyone naturally comes in with different levels of objectivity. Some new ones might start out shallow, as you say, but gain insight with exposure to more experienced debaters/critical thinkers. The ones that don't learn almost always move on, either voluntarily or with assistance.
  2. Yes, it is the rate of immigration that determines how they will be received, I think.
  3. Yes, ultimately, it's up to them.
  4. Politics is what I would call a 'grey' subject, bringing in a multitude of approaches... as is human sociology, which is what politics is part of.
  5. Why you in particular? The only scientific part really is statistics, which are presented as required, generally.
  6. It's a LONG time ago since that bird flew away. Not all subjects are amenable to pure scientific discussion.
  7. Right. Thanks. Yes, that makes good sense. I forgot about placing the unused carbon bonds and what might be on them: hydrogen.
  8. You are moving the goalposts, intimidation with the sight of a gun, not actually shooting people was the focus there... it's not relevant.
  9. How do you know that? Are the actual shapes a standard convention for those groups?
  10. Um, I don't think anyone will be intimidated by someone with a gun at 600 yards in a place milling with loads of people.... maybe on somewhere like Salt Lake flats with few people around.
  11. Something about this is mentioned in Reuters: https://www.reuters.com/world/market-chinas-wuhan-likely-origin-covid-19-outbreak-study-2021-11-19/
  12. If the atoms aren't denoted, I think they are assumed to be carbon atoms.
  13. Walking over the same old ground is not going to come up with anything new. Peterkin is relatively new, so I can forgive him. Everything like that is in the SFN archives to peruse.
  14. A lot of new science is actually conjecture, with only mathematical credibility and no actual measurements, like dark matter. "All models are wrong but some are useful". Most of the internet, outside of here and a few others, is receptive to personal pet theories.
  15. Theories in science are longstanding and evidentially well-supported. You are talking about hypotheses, which may be transient and purely speculative... a starting point.
  16. Not sure where to put this. Please move as appropriate, mods. I'm not sure how it's going to develop. What are the consequences and effects of live court broadcasts up to this point in time on the execution of justice and how may it develop in the future?
  17. Yes. As we've said many times before: you can't fix stupid. As you say, the only way to try and fix the consequences is put sticking plasters on it, like you mention.
  18. The original Constitution, as written then, belongs in a museum as a curio of US history, just like our Magna Carta. It should be a document that morphs with the needs of the prevailing times. To me, it's like Islamic fundamentalists demanding people live according to the Koran, as written in 6AD.
  19. When the 21st century GOP says 'Founding Fathers' they mean 'God Almighty', therefore, the constitution is written in stone and can no longer be amended.
  20. Mig's Italian-Canuck.
  21. You are stretching it a bit, Sensei. He had a a brand new gun... it gave him a metaphorical erection. he wanted to pose with it in public. It's only designed purpose is to put a hole in people... it was an AR-15.... a copy of an assault rifle.
  22. He didn't have a permit. It doesn't matter, the judge had his own popularity to consider and his election chances next round (cue my question about circuit judges being elected). It all smells a bit pooey. As a side note, the judge had a 'God Bless America' ringtone that he allowed to ring during sessions and ostentatiuosly honoured veterans that were present... stink or what?
  23. There you go. lol
  24. What, travelling 20 miles with an assault rifle for no plausible reason other han that it excited him. Youneed to look at his intent for being their with a lethal weapon.
  25. That's what the far-right wingnuts. yes.
