Why does your body make you fat?
Cloud replied to GrandMasterK's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
I have the same "problem." If you can call that a problem. ever heard of metabolism. It's too fast for us. People who don't metabolish fat well have a large store of the stuff (and so are fat/plump whatever - I think they call it 'big boned' these days) -
Why does your body make you fat?
Cloud replied to GrandMasterK's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
Its just a biological "process". Fats don't really harm your body (so there's no reason to fight back (e.g. make antibodies). Fats are actually essential for a healthy body. Its just in excess - its bad because if too much fat is stored and not enough is converted to ATP for energy - you become fat (in the literal sense). To "get it the hell outta there" its needs to be burned (e.g. broken down and converted to energy). And there comes the dreaded part - EXERCISE. -
Well, is it ? I read this article 2 months ago (I'm sure someone has read it here): http://www.arachnoid.com/psychology/index.html If not then I'll go over the main point the author tries to make: He says that psychology ISN'T a science because it isn't a strict discipline as all the other sciences such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics. He goes on to say that different types of mental illnesses are being 'founded' by the hundreds every year and this number is expotentially growing and so soon "no behaviour will be normal." He says that there is ethical restrictions on experimenting on humans (because there is) preventing proper analysis of psychology/psychological methods. Even if we could cut up humans and their brains, we don't even fully understand the brain so we wouldn't even know what were're looking for. There is no way of quantifying this. There is just too much variability (aka. 50:50) and not enough science (100%). He actually relates psychology to religion as a belief system. I think its quite a good article. I'm still pretty confused on the area. What do you all think? Discuss.

Well its hard to spell, thats for sure. I'm off to edit.

If wanting sex is shallow - nearly ALL men are shallow. Because nearly all men want sex (The statistics do vary but 98% of men (definitely aged 13-25) masturbate). Isn't masturbation wanting sex. I think it is considered shallow in a promiscuous sense. If you have one life-long partner its definitely not shallow.

The pen idea sounds pretty good but is narrow in scope. I suggest doing - JUST MAKE A ROBOT DAMINT !!! You have 8 full months and a partner (and I'm assuming this is the only thing you have to do academically e.g. no other subjects/exams getting in the way) Go for it. ( As for ideas - you sound like you know more that I do - What can't humans do, that robots can? - there's your line of enquiry). I say - The robot idea. Good luck with that.

This thread HAS to die. Come on !!! - its been going on since January. - 4 months!!! herme3 - I sympathesise with what you're saying. I know you have certain principles and thats something to respect. However - I agree with callipygous and various other members where you should just try dating (casually) and just generally meeting girls. This would help provide a clearer picture of what personalities you REALLY want. But don't take my word for it. I too have never . . . (can't finish that sentence, a man's got to maintain his dignity). So - you get the point. No-one's heart is going to break on a casual date. Its just for fun. Two people of the opposite sex exchanging views etc. Nothing has to get serious. You'll never meet the perfect fantasy person (soul-mate) straightaway. Life isn't a movie- more to the point - Life isn't that simple Anyway - That's my perception. If I'm totally out of context - don't blame me. This thread is 4-months long and it looks like its repeating itself every 5 posts. PS: It might be 5 or 10 years before you find who you are looking for. (Now there's a thought)

So anyone who thinks dirty thoughts is a scientist. Interesting. I think that someone who carries out experiments in the physical world can be classed as a scientist. Anyone who does "experimentation." Nope - that didn't sound right. The first thing I wrote. Thats right. The physical world comment.

I understand where you're coming from because I too am an artist. I don't want to explain it but I feel the same. Things were not as they used to be. I just keep hoping that it can only get better (here on earth). As other people have said - trying to activate adrenaline may help. I rarely ever say "I'm bored" because its so negative. It means you've failed at life. Right now - I'm doing exam practice so that keeps me going. And when I have free time again - I'll try to pursue something of interest or even create new interests. You just have to try new things. The world can seem like a "dystopia" at times but just don't give up. That's the trap. I've fallen into the trap many times, but I've always found the courage to pull myself out again. Anyway - thats all I have to say. Keep it up.

Please help this stressed out and distraught student!

I have some pretty intense exams coming up so we're in the same boat. Try coffee in the morning. (Its working well so far) Leaving High school - Yeah, I'll also be leaving high school after my exams. I don't know if you enjoyed yourself there (sounds like you did) but it pretty much sucked for me so I'm happy to be leaving so I can't say much - Just think of it as completing the first stage of your life (the stepping stone) - It can only get better (Try the coffee idea). Girl problems - You're asking the wrong guy(period/fullstop) |8( Hope that helped somehow. Just hang in there. You're not the only one with these problems. (e.g. Me too - (excluding the girl part) Good luck with the exams. -
I sometimes look forward to my dreams. Does that mean I need a psychiatrist too?

I tried learning python a month back. Take it from me - Its the number 1 programming language for newbies - so you've made a wise choice. (It took me ages to realise this). Its so easy to get into (I was declaring and using functions in 2 days). You can get a good book about starting python here which takes you all the way to the object orientated concepts: http://ibiblio.org/obp/thinkCS/python.php The website (python.org) also has had a much needed makeover and there are some interesting articles on how python has been used in industry (NASA is using it - which is personally appealing). However - it is still considered a second-rate language in the sense that it cannot compete with C++ and java and is frequently noted as a "glue" language or a secondary/supportive language which is annoying because I would like it to be mainstream (call me pythonistas if you like). I think what python needs is better resources and a free professional looking IDE (not pywin because that is just annoying at times). Things are picking up now - I'll definitely use python (if I ever decide to do a software project). well that's my 2 <insert currency>

4.5 + 1.5 + 1.5 (sorry - you have to add 1.5 twice) - my bad [delete this post]
-
First you have to add the 1.5 feet with 4.5 feet to get the diameter of the table cloth. Then use the formula for area of circle (as per Karnage). You can express the final answer in cm^2 or ft^2 (Your answer should be written 7.5ft (squared)) Its wrong by the way. ___________________________________________________________ Hope that helped.

Whats the average length a human shrinks during their lifetime. It terrifies me that one day - I'll be shorter than I am right now. And let me tell you. I'm a shorty. The good news is - I made it into the bottom 5th percentile. High five. No? Ok. Does someone know? Obviously, environmental factors, the way you postion yourself ...in bed .etc plays a part. I just want an average figure e.g. 1.5 inches. Atleast then its quantative so I know how much more I need to grow to stay in the bottom 5% of males. I don't want to lose my manhood (and have 60% of females taller than me). So - any help. Would be great.

I don't know if this has come up before or whether its a good question at all. (e.g. I'm naive) Are humans born with a pre-programmed limit of intelligence (I use that word with latitude). E.g. - I've heard people say - Man, he's a genius. He must have been born with that brain. Does that mean you must be born with an exceptional brain to be very intelligent. You can't earn it. There is only a certain level which you can biologically/mentally attain. I would say, academically, I'm above average but there are people who are far clever than I am (who are the same age). Were these people born with a better brain or what. No matter how hard I try - I can't compete. They seem as if they don't even have to do much to get A grades, whilst I have to work real hard for the same grade. And what does this mean for employment? There will always be someone better than me. Hope all this makes sense. Can someone just discuss their views/understanding of this. Thanks.

Why does this keep happening to me !!! It was as easy as that !!! Thanks anyway Aeternus. You've knocked some sense into me. They'res some similar questions involving finding the trig equations to graphs. I'm sure I'll cope now.

I'm in the middle of revision for my final GCSE maths exam. So far its been alright but today I've come across something that is not covered in any of the books I'm using. I'm assuming its an A* question (since "Introduction to modelling" comes up right at the end of one of the revision textbooks.) Here's the question - d = av + bv^2 Find the values of a and b co-ordinates on the expotential graph - (40,120) (60,240) I know the answer is (because they are provided in a separate booklet) a = 1 b= 1/20 Whats the methodology? I know that for a straight line - finding the gradient would give me the answer. I've tried rearranging the equation. I'm running out of time fast so I would prefer no 'sidewinding.' e.g. - If you don't learn yourself . . .blah blah. I just need the method so I'll be able to tackle the question if it comes up. Thanks in advance. Much appreciated

I'll try and stop the roman empire from collapsing. History would change for good (in theory) That - or the dinosaurs. I would take grenade launchers just in case - but I might upset the fabric of time. (ironic since I want to do that - in respect to the roman escapade).

I vote rap. You can't 'dunk' the whole artform just because the majority of its crap. Agreed that most of it is not that good and very monotonous But then again - Jay Z is pretty good. I would say the 98% of crap rappers are giving the good 2% a bad name.

Wow - that was a pretty difficult thing to get across(put into words) - seriously. I think Back to the Future works a bit better. Atleast there's some incarnation of a time-machine involved. The lesson learnt here - "Stick with the stereotype." No-one's gonna argue. Anyways - In regard to kedas's - "I travel to the future everyday" Yes, that's strange (but true). Wouldn't it also work if you went backwards (and hence travel back in time) (Obviously it would be miniscule but if you went backwards at the speed of light - is this theorically possible?)

Why is there no forum for (insert field here)?
Cloud replied to Sayonara's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
I'm with cabiterol and herpguy "Aerospace forum" It could be in physics but it also has computer science /mathematics / chemistry - you need a separate forum. Its the only way. I second military science . . . as 2nd. -
So that would be (0, 0, 0) 2) I think its called differential rotation and this is measured by observing sunspots. (I don't know if Galileo went blind because of this:confused: ) In regard to the ACTUAL question (didnt think things through) - I'm guessing circular (its a large body - this is how it would travel). 3) Strangely, its about 28 - 31 (hence differential) earth days. Thats for the rotation. I don't know about a revolution (Is there one?) 4) whoaah there - don't know that. ??? somebody*fill in the blanks*
