I suggest you minor in mathematics if thats possible. From your given options - I would choose some kind of business (administration) minor (if thats possible). Employers like people with the technical knowledge and the business mind. Hope that helps.

Sorry for making yet another A-level science topic edu career etc thread I am revising for my Science GCSE as we speak. (exactly 2 months till "D-day") ________________________________________________________________ Can someone tell me what the Computer Science GCE (AS/A2) is like. In the previous thread I made someone commented that it was like business studies. Is this true? I hate anything to do with spreadsheets and/or access. And also writing up ethical essays on computers and society. Boring. I'm more technical orientated. Is the Computing A-level like business ??? So far I have picked Biology, Mathematics, Critical thinking. I just can't choose between Psychology or Computer Science. Please reply from personal information or personal information passed on by somebody . . . personal. Thanks in advance. Much appreciated

I'm pretty sure the blue whale is the biggest creature EVER to have lived on Earth. (IF there was a bigger one - we would have found it by now)

Roughly my top 5 as of today (In order) 1) Truman show (Best film ever) 2) Terminator 2 (Best Sci-fi action ever) 3) Collateral (Best tom cruise as a baddie ever) 4) Aliens ( Best scary E.T. movie ever) 5) Last action hero (Just fun)

he - nah I don't think I'm doing medicine. This is just a general enquiry just in-case. Can anyone back-up Phil's comment?
-
I was wondering about this. Does applied maths really play a big part in a medicine. Or is basic maths knowledge up to high school level sufficient. If not, what level of maths is suitable for a person opting for a medical career. (I understand that chemistry is quite maths heavy -mols calculation etc) Just a query. Thanks for any replies.
-
Ok - I admit - chemistry is not my forte(e.g. . . .whatever) I also liked how bulldull exlpained it. I was thinking it was a simple ionic swap - But I couldn't get my head round the HF as being a product of an ionic reaction (since its covalent) I guess I haven't learnt chemistry to that degree. I figured from the knowledge that I do have that it would output in the same way as an ionic reaction. As Woelen and RyanJ mentioned - Flourine is a gas at room temperature. Duh. Simple chemistry. Sorry about the inconvenience.

I would buy a hybrid car (just to lower my input to pollution). Noone wants to live in a city with smog. As long as it allows me to go 100 mph (no particular reason) and can go 500 miles non-stop (no particular reason). So - I have to wait a few years before these specs start showing up.

Wow. I think Hydrogen Flouride would be liquid. (supposing your equation is correct). But wouldn't the equation look like this: 2NaF (aq) + 2HCl (aq) -> 2NaCl(aq) + H2(g) + 2F(l) I'm quute sure that this reaction would give off hydrogen gas and that flourine would be deposited as a liquid.

I don't think there is real use for maths in general software engineering. If you're creating software for an avionics system, then mathematics plays a much more important role (e.g. calculating trajectory would need advanced understanding of parabolas and other such mathematical modelling).

Isn't this course in java? VB would have been pretty much useless yet you still managed a 4. I think this further supports why it isn't that hard (in respect to the initial Question)

PhD usually takes about 8 years of full time study. E.g. for an Astrophysics doctorate You have to get the bachelors in physics first. [3/4 years] Then a masters (MSc. in physics) [1/2 years] Then you can specialise and focus on a PhD in astrophysics. [3 years] _________________________________________________________________ Macdonalds ??? - do whatever is necessary. _________________________________________________________________ Generally, apartments around universities and sites of univ are expensive because of the competition. _________________________________________________________________ I think english is one of the easiest languages to learn. You'll learn it in no time (2-3 years? possibly less - you're already good). Once you know english - you'll already know half of all french words. However, french is harder than english (I feel like giving up). _________________________________________________________________ Anyway, Good luck

Someone of my level of science shouldn't bother but here goes ~ Wouldn't we be able to detect (using Quantum computers) different emotions produced from the brain through these electrical impulses (changes at atomic level) and then upload the correspoding qubits onto a QC as a program and thus given the attributes of emotion to a computer. Please clarify why the above is ridiculous. Thanks
-
With quantum computing(with data on atomic scale) - wouldn't you be able to just hook up to a human brain and then (with the power of a scientists brain combined with the calculative power of a computer) be able to fully understand how the brain works (as someone said earlier).

Wow - I never thought of it that way. I mean I have but not in that way. Yes - the body underneath the table would have to be bigger than the Earth:D
-
I don't get it - I'm sure the bullet can go through that. Do you mean to say just one big thick sheet of glass thats 50cm thick? As for the liquid idea - yes. Thats the stuff. I'm just wondering - what liquid would be used (some kind of liquid-metal mixture)
-
Thats not negative. This world sucks. (I did not say the above). Secret to live longer - well if you look after yourself, seclude yourself from society, go live in the mountains like a sage and practice yoga 24-7, I would say 150 years max (for the human body). So the answer to this question is RE-INCARNATION. Thats right folks. Thats the answer. Keep getting reborn - you'll live forever. Guaranteed. (I just realised ~ this is a science forum, my bad).

The meaning of life, the universe, and everything, take two!

Yes - and what programming language was this algorithm written in. You don't mean to say the universe was written in Visual BASIC !!! How indescribingly gay would that be!!! -
Wow - cool theory. I had a theory once. It was about how the Earth was more closer to the sun than we thought. I based it all around 1 equation: AU = squareroot of y+6 It was complete bullshit. Not like your theory.

A) TRUE B) FALSE (Plantlife is most abundant) C) FALSE (bacterium were the first) D) TRUE E) FALSE (if 'lava'(inside a volcano) is a habitat)

What about Microsoft trying to buy out java (sun microsystems) ? (Actually - did that even happen? - I can't remember if that was reality or one of those wacky fun-filled dreams I usually have)
-
Yeah - I've been thinking of developing software (or atleast applications) that I could sell. Is this still hot (I know it used to be back in the day). Obviously I'm a lone programmer (at the moment) and still trying to get grips with a language. As with anyone starting C++ - I've been pretty much defeated by pointers (I really hate that word so I'm not going to use it ever . . . again). Hopefully I want to create a range of software such as games, utilities and the harder stuff (robotics). Should I carry on with C++ and try to learn the pointers (whilst verging on suicide) or should I just go with java. I know this question has been on the internet before and somehow recycled and appeared in the concotation that you see before you - but please try to give a good, informative reply. Remember I'm a lone programmer (or wolf as I like to call it) and would like to make software quite quickly but with industrial strength. I mean - How much easier is java than C++ anyway. It looks to me that all java is / is C++ without the intricate 'symbolisations.' I've read various articles saying that "aww, my students found java much easier than c++" and others saying "C++ rules, java is retard material." Seriously - I don't know why I've been put on this earth anymore ? Someone help.

Highest education level completed (or currently working on)?
Cloud replied to fafalone's topic in The Lounge
I think the brain 'matures' by 25. Then it has its maximum intellectual capacity. Then you grow old (get wisdom - but not intelligence). Ok I think I'll stop there before I invoke an argument. ________________________________________________________________ I'm about to complete High school (UK high school that is) I think I'll aim for a BSc/BEng in something (e.g. a bachelors degree). Then depending on my financial situation I'll take up a masters but I doubt it. -
Favourite equations - I would say 'solving quadratic simultaneous equations through substituing and completing the square.' Its the first time I have had a glimspe at proper pure mathematics. And the degree of operations is overwhemling at first but fun. Next stop - calculus. As for the FORMULAS - I would say e=mc2 since it probably has the greatest scientific importance (i think).
