  1. Dolphins have already been used as marine surveillance mediums during the gulf war.

Pro-choice ~ No big explanation other than if the a child is handicapped then it would suffer throughout life. Also- the mother may not be financially secure. Another reason - rape. pro-life - . . .?
  3. Yes - well they don't teach this advanced stuff in high school. This is more towards primary college level material. Am I right?
  4. Yeah - there should be two equations which can be solved simultaneously.
  5. acceleration = change in velocity / time 2.00 m/s2 = + 50 kph (0.014 kilometres per second) / ? 2/0.014 = 142.857 + 1 second = 143.857 seconds -> 2.4 minutes _____________________________________________________________ Oh damn - I just realised the actual speed has to be above 140. I'm not that good at physics calculations anyway. I always think too one-dimensionally.
  6. I think it was nature - (animals - brids, mammals etc.) I used to watch a lot of nature documentaries. Then I got into computers in 95 and everything changed. I wish I hadn't been introduced to the common computer. Because then I would be out lasooing cattle rather than being stuck in a basement deprived of light trying to figure out how pointers work. _________________________________________________________________ Some life eh.?
  7. #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { int dig1, dig2, dig3, dig4; cin >>dig1>>dig2>>dig3>>dig4; if(dig1=dig4);(dig2=dig3); (cout << "PALINDROME"); return 0; } Here's my desperate attempt at making a palindrome program. I couldn't include an else structure. I feel like an idiot because there are people younger than me who could - set up an else structure. The program works. (no it doesn't). Oh- and its not in C. (Its C++). Don't think it will be much use for your programming homework (assuming that is what the original question was). So this has all been a waste of time. (yes it has). Have a good day.
  8. At the moment I'm pretty neutral in all field: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer science. (I put geology under Physics and chemistry and not as a separate disclipline) Right now- I'm at that stage - (In the UK education system) - to specialise in science or go for a more softer career (such as media and the likes). _________________________________________________________________ Not a lot of people carry on science's after Secondary School (especially the physics subject) - Biology being the most popular. I think this is because people think there are no career prospects for 'scientists.' The people I know who have opted for science subjects at A-level plan to go into the field of medicine and that's it. By reading some of the posts here - there appears to be other science jobs other than the medicine discipline. Why are people so turned off by these jobs. Is it the staring down microscope? Do they feel they have no purpose or impact on society. Is it - and well obviously- why didn't I think of it - THE MEDIA'S FAULT. Anyway - I just thought I should throw that out in the open. Now that its off my chest. I can go back to making scientific posts (of help).
  9. Thanks for those - although maths tools have been done to death. As for Dave's comment: http://burks.brighton.ac.uk/burks/pcinfo/progdocs/cppcrit/index005.htm What do you think now? I kind off agree with the 'critique' against C++. I've been working at the tutorial and its just takes ages to write up a code to do a simple task. Together with the fact that the article talks about how the code will be far too complex to maintain - is c++ really 'flexible' for the future of computer science? I can see why java is now more popular. Universities still insist on c++ as a core component of a bachelor's degree in Comp Sci. but recently I've noticed java being worked in. Will C++ go down the drain? I don't know. I seem to be going of in my own nerdy little world. Still the question of whether c++ will survive is in my mind. Any clarification? Is C++ the right way to go for a software engineering career? conversely http://www.awprofessional.com/articles/article.asp?p=30415&seqNum=3&rl=1
  10. Sorry to interfere - the discussion has already gone off topic anyway. I've been learning C++ (From http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/) I'm about half-way through the tutorials. I'm using the Dev-c++ as the IDE. I was wondering what type of programs could I to make with the language. I was thinking of starting a password program. That's all I could think of. Could someone give me any hints as to other software I could potentially make with the C++ language. Thanks (understanding I'm still a newbie learning the language).
  11. There are some tests at the college board website (I think) - I don;t think they're old tests. APs are the equivalent to A-levels, right? - Well, since 5 is the highest score on an AP, that would be the equivalent of an A grade at A-level. To get an A grade in Chemistry requires about 70-75%. Just out of interest - How many APs do US students take? (UK Alevel students are required to do 4 but I heard that some US students take 10 APs)
  12. Whenever I look around the web I see articles on fewer and fewer poeple taking science A-levels and more opting for psychology. But why? More to the point - Which science AS/A2 is the hardest ? Biology Chemistry Physics Computing (if you consider this a science) __________________________________________________________ I've been predicted a grade A (at GCSE level Double science) but am not motivated enough to pursue to A-level. Most of the pupils in my double science class are opting to take media, philosophy, psychology and the likes of that at A-level. (soft - non technical fields) From personal experience - please discuss. Thanks
  13. Ok - I've been thinking about 'reformating' since the very beginning. I'll install the fresh OS since there's nothing much else I can do. (Unless I become an expert overnight) Thanks for your professional help and time Dak and 5614 Other forums (such as computer hope) were not that helpful at all. If you have any developments or anything more to add then be my guest. (but post within the next 3 hours before I go ahead with the wipeout)
  14. Bad news Dak The scan worked. When I went to save it and error came up saying that the program need to close. Now I can't access it anymore (to run another scan.)
  15. Right now - I'm in the process of saving my files by putting them in large chunks of 100 mb on my USB and transported them to the Desktop computer I'm using now. That would mean around 20 trips (100 MB X 20 = 2 GIGS) to the desktop computer. I'll do the rootkit scan ASAP. OK the scan is running - What does enumerating C: mean ?
  16. If I could take a screen capture I would. What I can see is pretty much normal. All the icons and start menus are there. However there are wierd icons and files on desktop and of course the big sign in the middle saying: Warnining! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer. View the list of top software removers here When I try to go to properties on the desktop to change the wallpaper etc - There is only one tab - a general tab - and it says Protocol: File protocol Type:HTML Document Connection: Not encrypted >>> etc _________________________________________________ Ok - now things have gotten worse. First of - I can't install/deinstall anything now. If I try -the computer restarts. Second - I can only set up a virus scan AT BOOT if I reinstall the antivirus program. Seriously - I will need to go much deeper to solve this problem. I can't just run programs. Its not that easy. PS to post: The site that installed the crap was probably a warez site. I don't know the url.
  17. No - I couldn't update it:-( The scans just completed. I deleted about 40 + trojans [Trj] Some of them were in the windows folder - I read the file but I could not determine the importance so I tried to repair the file. This didn't work so I deleted these too. The computer is still infected (presumly with haxdoor) There are still wierd documents such as wdcev on the desktop. I still can't open any software in windows. Explorer doesn't work. I guess were out of ideas??? I'm running the rootkit right now. It shoing up all these registry entries ??
  18. Well - Do you know the screen comes up that (when a USB is in a port) where it says: checking USB files press a key to stop scan. The virus scan starts on the same screen (The screen is light blue with two dark blue strips - windows XP is written at the top right hand corner) Bad explanation but there you go ???
  19. Sorry Dak - 5614 advised me to run a virus scan Atleast this might get rid of the trojons but as you've said - The computer won't allow me to run a virus scan - which it doesn't (on the desktop inside windows) However it works outside of windows. I think its just scanning the local drives (My stupidness) I'll do the Rootkit revealer thing when the scan is done.
  20. I downloaded Avast onto a USB and installed it on the infected computer. I scheduled a virus scan on boost since I cannot open the scan on the desktop for some reason ??? Once the viruses are deleted will all the strange files on my desktop disappear too or will have have to manually clean up? Ok its scanning >>>

  22. I've left it until this morning but I ran the OS repair disk and it now allows me to go back to the state the computer was in before all the spyware took over. The spyware signs keep on coming from the tray. There is also a large retangular box that has replaced my wallpaper saying YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED WITH SPYWARE - Here is a list of the top antivirus and spyware software' I cannot access the internet for some reason but I can probably get into the main windows and system32 folders to put back WININET.DLL. Dak - The spyware program I'm using is Ad adware. Its absolute crap. It did detect 100 critical objects which I quarantined then deleted. I clicked on the icon in the tray that was flashing you computer is infected with spyware. Spy sheriff came up and in the next 30 minutes detected around 70 trojons on the system. However it was the trial version and I couldn't delete them. I would have to do it manually. I ran the rubbish norton 2004 and it only picked up 1 element of spyware. (must be new definitions - my norton does not upgrade new defs.) So I'm in a situation now. I cannot burn all my work and data onto a disk because somehow - the' recordnow' software that I was using has disappeared. I have about 2 Gigs of data. So either there is another solution or I would have to reinstalled the OS??? Any advice? I'm thinking about losing all the data. I've got a USB that holds 512 MB so I could potentially save 25% of my work but thats it.
  23. I went into the supposedly normal 4th administrator account in safe mode. I then had access to windows task manager. There are 12 processes running: taskmgr.exe cmd.exe (the command prompt I'm running to access the registry) svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe lsass.exe services.exe winlogon.exe csrss.exe smss.exe System System Idle Process SYSTEM The first process is at CPU 01 The las process is at CPU 99 All the others arre CPU 00. Anything suspicious (why are there 3 x svchost). There is no networking (No active network adapters found). I have switched off the wireless network.
  24. Ok - Thanks for those links. I'm not that keen on deleting registry files unless I'm prefectly sure what I'm deleting. I'll read the info in the links to get an idea but I think I'll go ahead with the reinstallation of the operating system. I'll have to get the disc and try reinstalling the OS (IF this doesn't work then . . .damn.) PS; Safe mode at all 4 sides comes up before login - then the login screen - then the desktop (with the 4 safe modes). I'm not sure if this has any relevance) I'm now searching the registry . . . (which I accessed through typing regedit at command prompt in safe mode) Safe Mode with command prompt is the only way I can input anything to the computer)
  25. The last days of 2005 and I'm here trying to fix the damn laptop. Yeah - I've been thinking about reinstalling the whole OS. When I go into Safe mode all I see is a black screen with safe mode written on all four sides and at the top is wriiten the system (windows service pack 2 . . .etc) I can't right click and go to properties The start menu doesn't show All the keys are frozen. The only things I can do is move the mouse cursor Therefore, I can only actually make any difference by using the command prompt which I've already tried system restore with - another blank screen comes up as I've said previously. Is there any other method I could try that doesn't involve reinstalling the OS. I want to use that as a last resort.
