I think that all marriages should be civil unions conducted in the county clerk's office or in the office of a civil official designated to perform these contractual agreements, or even at a place designated by the couple if the government official can will do "house calls." After that, if someone wants his marriage to have the blessing of his/her church, they can work that out with the church of their choice, but the church ceremony should have no legal status at all. No church should be forced to conduct a marriage ceremony for anyone that it doesn't want to for any reason what-so-ever. It should be strictly up to the church. After that, as far as gays are concerned, if they want to have the same civil union (contract) that other people get, then why not? If they can find a church that will sanction (in the eyes of the church) their marriage, fine. It is up to the church. And incidently, I am about as "conservative" as they come and I do not oppose gay marriage.

And you define "conservatives" as?

According to the definition offered in the opening post, the reason for the violence determines whether or not it is terrorism. In as much as the perps have not been caught and interrogated, how could anyone know the reasons for the bombings? Wouldn't it be mere speculation, at this point?

I would state an exit strategy, as the administration has done, many times. The strategy is to remain in Iraq, assisting in the maintainance of order and in the training of the Iraqi military until the Iraqi government is established and with enough organization to maintain a stable government and resist the insurgency on it's own. As they become more and more capable of handling their own problems, we will be less and less involved.

Maybe I figured it wrong, but I get 912 days between 9/11/2001 and 3/11/2004. Did someone forget that 2004 was a leap year? or did I figure it wrong?

In considering the term, I can see where it would be an accurate definition of what a micrometer actually is. Although I might have opted for "screw caliper." That is probably why the term was used. I just never encountered it is all, but then, there are many things in the world that I have not personally encountered.

Well don't you think that that is what the framers had in mind when they provided for the amendment process? We could change it to suit modern times whenever 2/3 of both houses of congress and 3/4 of the states agree that it should be changed. Actually, if that is too cumbersome, then we could amend the amendment process itself, calling for, perhaps, a simple majority in congress and a majority of the states for ratification. I don't think I would trust any group of politicians to rewrite our Constitution, particularly in today's partician atmosphere.

I don't think the President signs a Constitutional Aamendment.

Do we have anything in the way of moderators on this forum? If this is a thread about biology, lets talk biology. You can find plenty of outlets for your political "opinion" in the politics part of the forum.

OK, I refigured it and now by placing alternate rows of 10 and 9 balls, I get 5 layers of 105 for 525 with the top of the top layer 4.464" above the bottom Is this right?
-
It looks to me like 543 balls would fill the box so that the top of the balls on the top layer would be 4.535" above the bottom. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't want to spend the day on it.

If I remember correctly, the flat portion of an American standard screw thread is 1/8 of the pitch. That is to say that if you are cutting a 10 pitch thread, the flat on the top of the thread (and incidently also the bottom) will be 1/8 of 1/10 of an inch, or in other words, .0125 wide. One can then calculate the precise hight of the thread by subtracting the two little bitty triangles first, then calculating the rest (or vice versa). I never heard a micrometer referred to as a screw gauge, and I thought the the OP was refering to a thread pitch gauge. The only time I would use a micrometer to measure a thread is with the use of thread wires, and that is to determine the pitch diameter. I am a Journeyman machinist with 40 years experience.

These are not right triangles because the hypotenuse in the upper triangle is bent slightly up, while the hypotenuse in the lower one is bent slightly down. If you calculate the tangent in the first sub triangle and then carry that same angle to the whole triangle, then the opposite side should be 4.875 units long instead of 5 units.

What has a greater influence on water, the Sun or the Moon?

If you are referring to the tides, I think it is the Moon. If you mean the temperature, it is definitely the sun. -
That is what I meant when I suggested detergent. He said it doesn't work. Try squirting some gasoline on it to dilute it and wipe up as much of it as you can that way, then I still think that dish detergent applied directly to the stain and scrubbed with a brush, and flushed off with water will do the trick.

Have you tried detergent and a brush?

I think that many people will consider him guilty regardless of the jury's decision. The OJ thing taught us that a jury can be biased against the evidence. Personally, I think he is guilty, but givin the evidence presented in court, I am pleased that he was found NOT guilty. If that makes any sense to anyone....

Since we have caused adaptations in animals by selective breeding, isn't it pretty well known how many generations it takes for a wolf to be turned into a Chi wa wa? (and yes, I know that chi wa wa is not spelled that way) In any event, that knowledge should help to answer the question in terms of generations required for a specific adaptation.

Why do gas giant planets migrate inwards and rockey planets do not?

A Jury just returned a verdict of NOT guilty in the Michael Jackson affair. Do we think that justice was served? If not, why not?
