  1. I really tried to use the search but frustratingly couldn't find a thread answering my question. On the moon (About 1/3rd of Earth Gravity (Irrelevant to out discussion so I wont mention it again) and no atmosphere) a hammer apparently reaches the ground when dropped from a set height at the same time as a feather. I understand how air resistance effects terminal velocity. And how air makes things of different shapes fall differently, so I would expect the 1KG of feathers in a weightless bag with all the air sucked out to fall at the same rate as the one 1KG hammer. However I am having trouble grasping how the 1 single small light feather can reach the ground at the same time as the much heavier hammer. 1. It takes much effort for me to lift the hammer to a high ledge using my muscles to push up against gravity, however it takes far less effort for me to get the feather up there. 2. It seems counter intuitive based on how gravitational body's effect each other in space when you think of the hammer, feather and moon as all being body's of mass (Like planets are). You would presumably expect two planets that are put next to each other to come hurtling together quickly however you would expect two footballs to take much longer to reach each other. ?
  2. That link on the post before last (TY Shadowacct) EBay (Set up a google allert to help you) If you live in the USA then http://sci-toys.com/index.html It seems to more commonly be known as "pyrolytic graphite" It's rather pricey and you need to be into magnets esspecally NIB (Neodymium Iron Boron) magnets to appreciate it, if you have no NIB magnets then you will likely not be able to do anything with it and if you are new to magnets then you will likely get frustrated before you can do anything good with it. It also only works in one direction. Bistmuth is cheaper and works in all directions but is weaker. Water is also as already mentioned very slightly diamagnetic (works best as ice cubes) but you need carefully constructed rigs to really be able to tell. (Just using really large powerful magnets and trying to arrange things by hand doesn't work)
  3. Is it possible to breed glow in the dark plankton in a lab insane_alien?
  4. There is loads of contact in that diagram you just posted. Please don't just stack up buzzwords and look at my link where there really is no physical contact.
  5. Nice link. Are you trying to emply something in your spoiler?
  6. http://users.zoominternet.net/~matto/M.C.A.S/electromagnetic_spectrum.gif Seems there is a window at extreemly high freqancys. (which due to there extreemly high freqancy have a lot of energy)
  7. Is the diffrance really that great! wow. I imagined it was like 20%
  8. ahh, ok, ty. So no point looking at gama and VLF then.
  9. sorry, I should find a way of stopping me posting stuff when Im annoyed.
  10. This looks good. NIB's last almost forever and are verry powerfull. This looks like a verry good gearing system if you are looking to reduce friction. You could go one further and reduce nearly all the friction http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-8293799154152880333&q=pyrolytic+graphite&total=13&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0 I think the thread title is inncurate. However ... we may all see the immposible verry soon
  11. http://www.stoveinafield.com/ Verry hard puzzles, well worth a go.
  12. http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=23706&highlight=physics I found this verry usefull
  13. Electromagnetic waves enter the atmosphere of lots of freqancys, so why do we only harvest energy from light? lots of lower and higher freqancy waves hit the ground too, they are not so emedtatly obvious as we cannot see them but there are there.
  14. Refering to a "cure" to being gay is like refering to a "cure" for supporting a cirtain sports team or a "cure" for liking marmite or any host of other personal prefrances. Im not even slightly gay still find the stupidity of the title of this thread offensive. Maybe we should "cure" democrats in america? Thread should be locked.
  15. Good idea Klaynos
  16. ty :¬) So only good for deep bass, and watering it down would reduce it's effectivness. I would think the amount of power into the coil would determin how much of it's surface it could move? I was thinking it could also be intresting from a directional sound POV as it can be not a flat surface like a speaker but more this shape. http://scienceblogs.com/moleculeoftheday/images/ferrofluid.jpg It can also be more of a flat dome shape it depends on how the magnets are arranged. I guess fine iron flilings could be intresting too, but possibly even more viscoss and so more useless but never the less worth experimenting with. I suck too much as electronics to make AC.
  17. I was wondering if a setup envolving an electromagnet of alternating strength (of feild) and ferrofulid could create sound. I noticed that the ferrofluid I have seems to get smaller when neer a magnet as it is all sqashed together and expands somewhat when on its own. If this was done fast enough sound waves could be produced?
  18. Interesting yet confusing
  19. I just saw sevaral problems with my last post. With the first way I had drawn my diagram so that it looked like all the timeframes where on top of each other in the z dimention and the blur was 2d as opposed to 3d and the slices where 2d not 3d as they should have been just that would have been too hard to work out what should have been occluding what. But I think the concept works even if my implentation was pritty bad. The seccond method dosn't as the example picture shows 4 3d views. The first 3 are 3d also they are just shown from one side. This would only work as showing 4 3d objects to get a 4d silloete of the object instead of a good reprentation of it.
  20. lol, so my equation is not bad then :¬) Your's is slightly more accurate.
  21. Don't "whatever" insane_alien as he is verry smart.
  22. According to r617flynn's theroy one inside every black hole agentchange. Please Expand
  23. Sorry, did I say something to annoy you?
  24. Don't we get all the matter back from a black hole in hawking radiation?
