  1. Thanks for the help Woelen Looks like I'll need to do a bit more research about it then! -- Ryan Jones
  2. I think I understand, so even though the structure is valid it probably can't exist because the strain on the long C-O bonds would probably be too much for them to handle making the compound inherantly unstable? Interesting... Tell me Woelen, do you happen to know what its name would be? I think I'd like to do more research into it... I don't know why but I just like the way that molecule looks -- Ryan Jones
  3. I'd think it was possible, its not really affecting the delocalised pi electron system so it should be stable... oxygen has its two bonds... Just can't find a reference to it so question if it is actually possible. http://chemicalland21.com/lifescience/phar/1,3,5-TRIMETHOXYBENZENE.htm Is the closest I have found. -- Ryan Jones
  4. http://computer.howstuffworks.com/microprocessor.htm Should also help (Love Howstuffworks... great detail!) -- Ryan Jones
  5. Is it possible for this compound to exist? If so what would its name be? I don't know, looks like it should be - it is substitution to the benzene ring but its been bugging the hell out of me for a few days since the chemistry exam... Just another curiosity -- Ryan Jones
  6. Here is another new one: http://www.touchspin.com/chem/SWFs/pt2k60104w.swf -- Ryan Jones

    Chemical Blogs

Just about anything that has the word "blog" in it will become popular now because its the in thing on the net (and AJAX, WEB 2... etc.) -- Ryan Jones
  8. Cool experiment Woelen, thanks for sharing -- Ryan Jones
  9. It is theoretically though conditions are a little stricter... I believe lack of water is vital for that. Its also harder for Silicon to form stable longer chains so they would grow a lot slower too. -- Ryan Jones

  11. MS have announced that they do themselves, will post some links when I get home. Send information about your computer once a week so they can "check" your using a valid key which is just a load of crap because what's all the other information being used for? Cheers, Ryan Jones

    Ostwald process

Ah, I see. Its probably because copper and platinum have simmilar catalytic properties Cheers, Ryan Jones
  13. Half the stuff they planned got removed, this version of Windows now has in-built spyware as an "anti-piracy defence" or thats their excuse anyway. Cheers, Ryan Jones
  14. The best I can say is good luck. Non de-natured ethanol can't be purchased without a lisance in the UK as far as I'm aware (and if it is possible then it will be hard to find). Try a forum search, I think this has some up a few times in the past. Cheers, Ryan Jones

    Ostwald process

According too the information I have a copper catalyst is not used, according to the information I have the components of the catalyst are platinum with with a small amount of rhodium. I can find no mention of copper anywhere in my books... Cheers, Ryan Jones
  16. Well, I have not taken the course (nor heared of it actually). Most courses are almost the same, best bet is too look up simmilar courses on the intenet and see what their content is and base judgmenents on that. Cheers, Ryan Jones
  17. http://www.aftenposten.no/english/local/article1346411.ece Has anyone else read that? Quite interesting Cheers, Ryan Jones
  18. Scientists have recently found a primordial solar system that appears to have an abnormally amount of Carbon, the element at the base of life on Earth, present. This is fascinating because we may be seeing something similar to what happened in our solar system many billions of years ago. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/06/060608092215.htm -- Ryan Jones

    Boranes

As far as I remember the light boranes are quite unstable and burn easily in air but become more stable as they get heavier. It should also be noted that boranes are toxic so must be handled with care Cheers, Ryan Jones
  20. I'd have to say no personally because they can't reproduce themselves - they need something else to do it for them, they can't move on their own (they reply on a carrier). The experts however have come to no definite conclusion - the above is just my opinion Cheers, Ryan Jones
  21. Hi there! Welcome to SFN Here are some other threads that may prove interesting (relating to the production of nitric acid) http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=5944 http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16973 Cheers, Ryan Jones
  22. 1) Stargate 2) Terminators (Like them all) 3) Contact 4) Babylon 5 - Thirdspace 5) Short circuit... very clumsy film but I like it. Cheers, Ryan Jones
