Hi everyone! As some of you may be aware Wikipedia is currently running a set of projects in all of its areas one being a chemistry project. The goals of the project are things like improve quality and depth of articles in the chemistry field (Also sub-divisions for things like Drugs, compounds, polymers etc.). We have a lot of knowledgeable people here who know information about compounds and chemistry as a whole so here is an idea how about we have a project here to develop chemistry articles and then add them to Wikipedia and develop existing articles? It would be an interesting project and hopefully would provide good quality articles because right now some of the articles on Wiki need a lot of work. The actual project is located here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chemicals Anyone got any comments on this idea? Cheers, Ryan Jones

I think its direct reaction of Hydrochloric acid on Iron: [ce]Fe + 2 HCl -> FeCl2 + H2[/ce] Can't help you with that one I am afraid Cheers, Ryan Jones

Whats the point? There should be no patents period. All they are designed to do is stop people using potentially useful ideas intheir own projects. I can think of no good reason for a patent at all, they should all be nulled and voided. Cheers, Ryan Jones

Not if your a home chemist. Seperating two gases is not very easy. Cheers, Ryan Jones

Patents hold back process and should just be ignored. Some diots claimed the patent for 2 human genes so their company alone could develop and sell the products that would affect it. like I said patents are a waste of time and really bug me at times. Yes: Display text Cheers, Ryan Jones

It is but seriously you'll be pushing your luck trying to make any. Its not only flammable but explosive so don't even try. Again I'll point out the danger of the compound: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrazine Your best avoiding trying to make things that can kill you. There are sites out there that sell certain elements / compounds (Not that one obviously) and they do it in a safe way. Buy them don't try and make them - ever - even if you have the equipment there could be unexpected additions to the bleach that could cause problems. Cheers, Ryan Jones

It depends on what the fumes actually are - mixing bleach with different chemicals leads to different compounds formed. I really reccomend you don't mix things together unless you are shure what they will do... this gives you an example of some of the nasties formed and some of the results of messing with this stuff. ...Get the point? Cheers, Ryan Jones

You'd need a hell of a lot of Helium I'll tell you that - took the Mythbusters a few thousand just to lift a small child off the ground. Cheers, Ryan Jones

How about the biggest challange of all time, evolving algorithms. They do exist but right now they are only basic... Maybe thats a bit too advanced though Cheers, Ryan Jones

Yea fractals are nuts - I have heared fractal music before but thats a big collection The first one looks like a wierd dimentsion with lots of worm holes. The second on is a bit harder sort of reminds me of the patterns made in particle colliders Cheers, Ryan Jones

The formulas go from simple to very complex. http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Fractal.html (Sub links) give examples of various equations. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractals Well, the colours are either generated directly fromthe number its self or from a colour array so the answer is yes or no. If you can code Liberty Basic the file attatched may be of some interest Cheers, Ryan Jones Fractals_LB.txt

They shure do. The coast of Britain is a fractal, the shapes of certain vegetables and even the shapes of shells too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal#Fractals_in_nature Cheers, Ryan Jones

Gravitons do not run out. Thats like saying light runs out. If your in an empty universe there will be no gravitons anyway so I'm not shure I understand what you are asking. Cheers, Ryan Jones

Nothing people just like Pi... I personally love the fact its irrational but thats just me Cheers, Ryan Jones

Fractals, http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Fractal.html gives a good definition Cheers, Ryan Jones

Yes it would. Literally explodes. Don't try it lest you get noxious gasses everywhere. (HCl being a gas is not something you want to breath in). Cheers, Ryan Jones

... bleach does not release chlorine normally, if it did you'd have a while lot of problems (Chlorine is very reactive). If it is releasing chlorine its being mixed with some incompatible substance(s). Cheers, Ryan Jones

OK people, I take it back - every forum besides this one has a best links thread. How about we start a community project to collect links to all good FREEWARE for windows (Urgh), Mac, Linux or anyhting else Heres my start: http://www.opensourcewindows.org/ Anyone else want to contribute, remember it must be freeware (If we get a good collection going we may get this pinned) Cheers, Ryan Jones

Probably the best way would be hard code the internal password with an MD5 encription and then do that for the input check - even if they download the file they will not get the access password Cheers, Ryan Jones

question on partial fraction decomposition
RyanJ replied to caseclosed's topic in Analysis and Calculus
I understand If you need help you can try looking at the examples here and you can ask the questions there too and I'm shure someone will be glad to help you Cheers, Ryan Jones
