  1. Hi everyone, Xenon(II) Fluoride [math]XeF_2[/math], how did that make it? At GCSE level we were taught that any atom of a group 0 element is stable, it has a full outer election shell. I guessed they would cdut things out to make things more simple but at AS we were taught that some elements E.G. Sulphur could expand their octlet (Speeling is probably wrong). Is it the same principal for doing this with a noble glass? Also can you give me any information on the reactions such as preassure required, catalyst required etc. Are there any elements that have no known compounds at this point in time? Cheers, Ryan Jones
  2. Thats quite confusing but I tink I get what you mean Are there any acids that will dissolve gold? I have heared of one called aqua reiga which is a mixture of a few (two?) acids but are there any others? Cheers, Ryan Jones
  3. Yup, he could. He can remember a huge ammount of information, hes what they call a savant. Its nuts, he went on to a general knowledge show and had every single question correct. Its hard to believe but you can give him the name of a book he has read, a page and he can read it... I wish I had that type of memory for my exams Cheers, Ryan Jones
  4. I did not say that they did. I said that if you were to accelerate any object to the speed of light it gains infinate mass. Heres another one for your guys - does light experience time or does time stand still at that speed? Cheers, Ryan Jones
  5. Thanks for the link, reading it now Edit: I'm not convinced by reading that that the human brain cna only store a few hundred megabytes of data. I eman that guy reads hundreds of books a year and he remembers every word out of every one of those books. In plain compressed text format on a computet those take more than a few hundred megabytes, that not to mention all the stuff he already knows how to do and has learned before. Cheers, Ryan Jones
  6. Good idea but I'm not quite shure how you'd do it in XUL... One reason is that in VB it uses an OCX file, I'm not even shure that Firefox's plugin language can interface with OCX files. Cheers, Ryan Jones
  7. Actually I think it uses IE's built in engine. Did you use the built in browser object when you wrote this? Because if you did its basically IE with a different interface. http://www.vbwm.com/articles/builder/viewer.asp?ArticleID=31 If you did use that then it does use the IE render engine so it does not support a lot of CSS correctly, a lot of CSS 2 is missing... namley 96% of it and no CSS 3 is supported. It does not recognise the xhtml file extension. The list goes on and on - your better off using the gecko rendering engine instead. Cheers, Ryan Jones
  8. Hi everyone! How does memory actually work, on thinking about this I cna make no sence at all The brain is, by definition anyway, a large conenction of interlinking neurons who fire in a certain pattern to make a certain thought or process a bit of information - thats fine I get that. Memory is where everyhting goes nuts for me - memory is the connection between two or more neurons, how does that actually work? How can your brain know that set of conections there means x and that there means y. Its really very interesting and facinating all at the same time. Also how does your brain know where these memories are located and where are they located, are they located in one part of your brain or are they linked everywhere throught it? I never understood how your brain can store sound, video, pictures, words, anything you like, as a set of connections. Any answers you cna provide would me much appreciated Oh, and one more: would anyone like to speculate as to the storage capacity of the brain in terms of memories? I was watching a show about a personwho remembers EVERYTHING he reads, hundreds of books. How much can yor brain actually store? Cheers, Ryan Jones
  9. Inside a black hole - what would it be like? I know once you pass the event horizon you can never get out of the black hole , not unless you can cheat reality anyway. Anyway, I know at the heart of a black hole there is the quantim singularity; the point at which all our laws of physics break down. Does this apply to every law or could there be a set of laws that will work in the heart of a black hole? I have heared about quantum gravity but I can't find much information on it. Also, what about M-theory how would the strings and branes be affected by it? Would they also be oblivionised? How many dimensions does the event horizon cross, does it only extend into the third or forth dimension or can it pass still further into the other dimensions preposed in string theory? Does time have any meaning within a back hole? Black holes, too me, are one of the most facinating things about physics. I know asking the question of what is space and time like at the center of the hole has mo meaning because what space and time are change and are destroyed. If you could like two black holes together would you then get a wormhole? How would time be afected as you travel through it? I have so many questions One more question... what would ahppen if you created a black hole within a black hole? Any helps you can provide would be well recieved Cheers, Ryan Jones
  10. Thanks all. So I am to understand that there can be weight depending on: 1) Whos formulatiosn you use. 2) How you actually define weight. Thanks for the information, very insightful Cheers, Ryan Jones
  11. Hi everyone, Firstly let me say thank you to all that replied to my last thread here - it was very informative and very interesting to read and still people are posting - WOW! Now to my question: If I were to fall out of a plane with a weighing scales and I were to attept to stand on the scales, I would register 0 (Right?) as I am falling at a constant rate relative to the scales. My question is would I actually have 0 weight? it seems that the moment you stop resisting the pull of gravity you become weightless. I can't answer this question myself so I'm looking ay you (The physics experts) to answer my question Cheers, Ryan Jones
  12. Hi everyone, Are there any good chemistrt websites out there? Things like learning the principals, examples, chemical lookups etc? If anyone has any good links the please post them, may help a lot of people! Cheers, Ryan Jones
  13. I think woelen and YT2095 talked about that in their first two posts Funny how its less corrosive but in a way I suppose thse coudl eb more useful because of that property, makes them easer to store and use Must have something to do with my many protons are dissalocated during the dissolving of the substance Cheers, Ryan Jones
  14. Great, can't wait to see your proof Cheers, Ryan Jones
  15. Nope, any mathematical function may be used so thats fine Cheers, Ryan Jones
  16. Fine, read my last post again. Last compramise. You can use them in any way but no more than 4 numbers, constants or what ever in total Cheers, Ryan Jones
  17. When it starts to get hard, then you may use mathematical symbols but they will count as a four, that should resolve the problem of overuse of the constants Cheers, Ryan Jones
  18. Well, it is correct. If you want to give an answer where the bulbs are unbreable then that would be even better Cheers, Ryan Jones
  19. Good answer Quite correct, they all would have blown Cheers, Ryan Jones
  20. Good point I thought I put it as you were allowed, after what you said its probably better that its not then Cheers, Ryan Jones
