In the future if everybody was born with a twin brother or twin sister it would solve a lot of medical problems. Maybe prenatal cloning isn't too far away either. Just aman

Cern estimates they have 50,000 anti-hydrogen atoms at a time in the chamber because that is how many destruct as they drift out of containment. http://www.nature.com/nsu/020916/020916-7.html Just aman

If the universe is expanding, what are we filling up?
aman replied to Soulja's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
I imagine the big bang as one point, expanding in all directions from that point and the start of our coordinate space/time. Now we are somewhere away from that point and 14 billion light years from the outer border. Maybe? Just aman -
I'm against it now. Maybe in the future. If you ask now why some fail and some don't, the smartest researcher will still say I don't know. We have to get long past that. Just aman

We just need to send a rocket full of cockroaches and crabgrass to Mars. In ten years it will look just like Florida. Just aman

I was thinking of a stable magnetic element to simplify containment of atoms rather than quantities of ions and their problems. Every time an atom of of anti-hydrogen has been made it left containment and was destroyed. Just aman

If I had a machine that extruded quick hardening plastic continuously to make fishing line and there was loud music in the background, shouldn't I be able to cut some line and pull it through a small hole in a tin plate so I could here the music on the string? With an amplifier? This would be similiar to a silkworm spinning silk at 15cm per minute in the air. Once it is catalyzed it should have the surrounding sound captured and not be able to be overwritten. Just aman

Silk is spun at 15 cm per minute continuously for hundreds of feet. In cloth it is woven with 4 to 8 strands per thread for fine silks. There may be a lot of interesting early Chinese speech or music on some of the filaments. Maybe? Just aman

How about trying to read sound off of a spiders web? Or maybe off a silkworms spinnings in the garden? Lots of old silk around. Just aman

I've been playing around with ideas on how to find natural mediums on Earth that might record sound as a way to hear into the past. Since T Edison made a device that cut a uniform growing groove that in the presence of sound, incorporated the sound in the groove, then other natural growing mediums might incorporate sound as they grow at a speed and size compatable with sound freq. One idea might be to see if a human hair which grows continuously lays down its structure as it hardens near the root with sound incorporated which might be read with an electron microscope. Sample hairs could be calibrated with sounds and entered into a data base. Sound through the skull should be substantial while the molecular layers of hair are formed at the root and hardened. It would be neat to hear a mammoth or smilodon or true Egyptian or Peruvian from mummies. Any thoughts on other mediums or why this might not work? Thanks. Just aman

I like watching "Cops" and if we didn't have stupid people, they'd have to cancel it. Also we'd have to find a new congress, company CEOs, postal supervisors, and people who drive the speed limit in the fast lane. Just aman

Stupid people used to be a useful resource. Now they are becoming obsolete and that is why they are causing all sorts of trouble. We either have to make them smarter or find something useful for them to do. Just aman
-
Stupidity hasn't always been a characteristic of humans. We just have too many stupid people breeding when they should be naturally selected out. Hermits don't breed so the more the merrier. Just aman

I bet in five years you can by the suit at radio shack. God, our kids get all the good toys. Just aman

Wouldn't you enjoy a couple months of you and nature out in a cave somewhere. That's just getting away, a "walkabout". Usually to bring back a better you to interact with society. Sounds healthy to me. Just aman

Lots of applications for it in the future in solar heating if it's cheap. Maybe a coating on the back of a solar sail. It sounds pretty useful when they get the cost down. Just aman

Germany jumped on the bandwagon and sent a bunch of decontamination trucks and troops to operate them to Kuwait. They will be with us. France might as well build a wall and hide behind it. Something high enough so you can't toss a chemical weapon over it. Then they don't have any worries. Did you know that right now Libya and Syria are the heads of the Human Rights works in the UN and in a couple of months the chair of the nuclear dissarmament committee rotates to Iraqs turn. That picture explains a puzzle told to me by a science friend specializing in coprolites. He found a big fossil dinosaur poop and it had a hat in it. Still smelled bad. Just aman

Continuing fruit production long past normal ripening.
aman replied to aman's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Since we can keep plant cells healthy in the lab, I had an idea about painting a screen with inner rind cells of fruit and let them produce fruit by feeding nutrients on one side of the screen while harvesting from the other. The cells should produce as long as they are not shut off by the ripening triggers. The size of the fruit should not be restricted and before the fruit is harvested the triggers could be allowed. The nutrients could be provided by panels of leaf cells in solution so a lot of waste plant support structure could be eliminated. It should be easy to make a grape as big as a garage. Just aman -
Thanks, that was fun. I love tests. It should make a good project and interest your class. Just aman

Now France suggests that the Iraq gov't should pass a law making it illegal for its country to produce biological or chemical weapons. That should make it all better. France also says they don't have ballistic missles to deliver the weapons so there is nothing to worry about. Now I really feel better. Just aman

I'd like to see a dodo in a zoo, even though they were nasty mean birds that tasted like shit. We couldn't reintroduce them to micronesia since their habitat is no olnger suitable. There still is the head of a dodo in a museum somewhere that has skin on it and bones with DNA. I think it would be great if some of the bones from the LaBrea Tar Pits in California had usefull DNA. Mammoths and Smilodons would be great to see. Just aman

Turkish truck drivers in north Iraq still haul oil out and say they see lots of soldiers and tanks digging in on roads and oil fields. They ask for water but the Iraquis don't have any or food either. The Turks can't take phones or newspapers with them but the soldiers ask for news on when the war's gonna start. It seems they'll be in a hurry to give up so they can eat some decent food and get blankets and medicine. Just aman

As a water wave reaches a funneling channel its energy gets concentrated. Just like an energy wave passing by a black hole would have its energy concentrated as space is squeezed near the event horizon. This is where the phenomena of matter popping out of the void is theorized. Maybe an energy wave could be concentrated to the threshold of changing to a particle as it passes through space. Just aman

A lot of very high IQ people wind up socially crippled because you learn early not to waste energy with idiots. Hopefully most can recognize this early and correct it with a lot of effort or even be lucky and have a social talent. If your too smart to be social you can be a hermit. If your too stupid to be social you can be a derelict. Or you can be well balanced and enjoy. Just aman
