The real whale Willy was based on followed a fishing boat into a remote fiord in Norway and is mooching over 100lbs of fish a day. He's too tame. Wasted 20 million letting him go and now their going to have to rescue him. Just aman

I was just pondering about the properties of antimatter when science can build heavier elements with it. If we make anti-matter neon and run an electrical charge through it, will the atoms become excited and emit anti-photons that travel at the speed of dark, oops, I mean light? Just curious if there are such things as anti-photons. Just aman

The Earth Simulator was probably the one in Japan that held the speed recrd for quite a while until one built here in the US just took the lead in the last few months. The rankings were in Popular Sci a couple of months back. Just aman

It doesn't sound very efficient. I never heard or read of one and I don't know what the point would be. The advantage of a cable is it is shielded from interference. Just aman

I saw a video where some guys stood spray shooting full auto AK47s with 30 round clips at 50 yds at 9 man sized targets 5 ft apart. They averaged 2 non lethal hits per clip. Then they went semi-auto and aimed hitting up to nine targets lethal in five seconds with nine shots. They also fired tracer bullets into a full car gas tank and the bullets just went out. Over and over and they never got an explosion. They showed the engine block was the only part of a car that will stop a 50 cal. machine gun bullet. It was fascinating stuff to see what really happens. Just aman

Evolution seems to be driven a lot by mathematics, from the geometry of a conch shell to even the complex humans, proportional equations. If an evolutionary change is made over time, it has to follow the rules or it is just a dead end mutation. Just aman

Wouldn't they aim the laser with mirrors since it would be pretty hard to track a target with the laser itself? Just aman

What's a "post-count"? Just aman :banme: +1

Thanks, I'll stick it in my reference folder. Thanks for any additions. Just aman

Yea, sounds like a challenge and that's why I love Science Forums. Just aman

I am looking for a mentor to help with a project.

That looks like a little more than just a start Faf. I was reading the Earth is starting to get a bulge near the equator like a big love handle. It is slowing down our rotation but I don't remember by how much. I'll try to find the article but it also mentioned changing ocean currents also because of the slowing. Just aman -
You'ld only need a handful of em with tiny files and an apartment near Fort Knox. They could drift over each night and fly back with a never ending supply of gold dust. I think there are a lot more useful applications in the short term for small quantities of nanites besides my little fun example above. It's going to be an interesting future. Just aman

I was just reading about research done to determin the structure of the moon. JPL scientists bounced a laser off a set of silica reflectors set up on the moon by Apollo astronauts. Those reflectors had to get up there and be positioned somehow. Just aman

Thank you Tom, I read up on the Compton shift and it does show that photons striking electrons does suggest a measurable transfer of momentum. Makes sense to me. Just aman

PS. I've been married fifteen years and you have to remember marriages last a long time. You need communication, honesty, trust, interest, love and more but the easiest of these to lose is first on this list and the easiest to give is last. Lovers sometimes kill when they should have left when they stopped communicating. It's nice when you can be with someone that meets you halfway at all on the list. Just aman

Howdy Ender, Are you saying that before our minds were formed, we wanted to have intelligence, so we just went and evolved brains that had room to calculate and remember? I don't think that the slightest thing we care about really matters much in the scheme of things. If your talking about a pressure towards sentience I agree but I don't think we have much to do with it. Just aman

If a homework project can't get an A after being presented here then somebody is asleep at the keyboard. Just aman

For the cost you'd think it would be better for the economy if we dropped Chryslers on them right off the assembly line. Just aman

I watched 60 Minutes on Sunday and they showed a factory building 2000lb dumb bombs. What I was curious about was why did they fill them with concrete? I saw them pour concrete in the 9 foot hollow shells stood up on end. What is the physics or common sense logic behind this? Why not BBs or scrap metal? Just aman

I think the main thing is, can you agree to disagree and still be comfortable with each other. If one of you doggedly needs to change the other then move on. If your willing to take small steps and nudges then it might work. Good luck. Just aman

Thomas Edison would have loved to play with one of these. Thanks for sharing that. Just aman.

Life on Earth seems to try and fill every possible niche of space and energy usage. Long before life flew on wings it flew on the wind and even now bacteria live high in our atmosphere. Maybe we moved towards sentience when it became evident that a niche advantage was gained by organization, eg,ant colonies, bee hives. The same pressure might be on the cellular level to organize and over time we evolved. Just aman

Why would the Gov't fake something that is both possible and certainly to be verified in the future. If the Gov't really wanted to fake something it should be impossible and also unverifiable in the future. There is to much evidence that shows we went to the moon and came back. Just aman
