    Geology

You are talking probabilities and they could be over many hundreds of years from now. It is more likely built up pressures will be released gradually and small eruptions or landslides will be relieving the pressures. History supports this. To be able to estimate that 2000 people will survive is absurd. Just aman
  2. There's a lot of old wives tale crap posted on the internet. Just aman
  3. We are a few steps away from a direct transistor neural interface. Once that is made we should be able to operate the body parts by computer. An interface at the brain stem in the head should be able to operate and fool an observer into thinking it was an actual person. A true cyborg.
  4. What about injections of young stem cells to regenerate organs that are wearing out? Even brain cells could could be used to keep us alert as we age long past our normal lifespan. Just aman
  5. Thank you Fafalone because I read this and couldn't respond until some sensible direction was taken. The spread of HIV is like the spread of flu viruses and kills many people but cannot be blamed on a bio lab or a conspiracy. Each can be traced to a source that naturally occured. It is easy to blame a plot or conspiracy on anything harmful if your irrational, illogical, or paranoid but if your a scientist the truth is before your eyes. It's natural but terrible. Fight the disease with education. The disease targets all the ignorant and careless and innocent victims of circumstance. It doesn't target by race since we all can get it. Just aman
  6. Last month in Discover there was a neural cell attached to a transistor. It was able to receive signals with no damage to the cell. We are getting pretty close to making a direct brain interface. Fun stuff. Just aman
  7. Blike was asking about fetal rejection and I can't think of any other instance but the RH+ and RH- difference. My Dad was B+ and my Mom was A+ and I'm AB+ and it didn't affect my Mother or me because of the barrier. I don't have any idea how common the RH difference is or really how serious the problem can be. You would think that we would have evolved to absorb the defective fetus early rather than kill the mother. It seems the body does not recognize even some pretty extreme genetic differences in the womb and will carry to term. We seem to be a very resilient race. Just aman
  8. Our circulatory system would be our roads, planes, and shipping. The first contact by a large system might be to draw some blood to analyze or scrape a few cells. That might be why we miss some planes or car passengers under mysterious circumstances. Maybe. Just aman
  9. Fafalone mentioned it is a genetic problem where a certain gene is missing after conception so the person is constructed with some instructions missing before birth. After birth it is not possible so far to reverse the deficiencies. Just aman
  10. I agree with you Faf. The only sin in these days of early migration was to be weak. Maybe albinos in Africa were guilty of this "sin" since they had low tolerance to the sun and vision problems. Other than that any healthy birth was welcome. Just aman
  11. Since humans are becoming more connected and hopefully more organized by technology, then we are becoming less like individual cells and more like an evolving life form. Viewed from the outside we activate anti-bodies to fight internal disease. Have a brain to store and direct information and coordinate action. As a whole we respire, consume, and excreet. Our nervous system is wired with satellites and cable to connect us all. Under a microscope our planet is looking much more like an increasingly efficient, multi-billion celled life form. Do we meet a similiar form and reproduce, merge, or decide who gets absorbed? Just aman
  12. I haven't seen a better place for real intelligent discussions. There's plenty of knowledgable people checking in with good questions and good answers or opinions. It's getting better all the time. Just aman:cool:
  13. Maybe there were different feelings towards albinos but they are a rare genetic condition. There never was enough of them to move as a race to Europe. The people spread into Europe about 35,000 years ago and lived mostly nomadic until about 10,000 years ago when evidence of settlement has been discovered. Then 7,000 years ago we start seeing stone constructions and monuments. It seems over a short period of 25,000 years with high mortality rates and natural selection the evolution of lighter skin was favored in Europe, especially red hair and very light skin in far British Isles. Evolution was compressed due to short life cycles and pressures for survival. Just my reading of the research to date and my thoughts. Just aman
  14. The universe would make sense if entropy ruled and everywhere things were degrading but for some reason where there is a great deal of energy, things use it to build themselves greater. First why do things use energy to fight entropy? Then how do they use it to build life? What pushes these processes? I gotta think about it. Just aman
  15. The barrier does not protect against different RH factors in the blood. This could potentialy kill the child or the mother. Just aman

    IM back!

Ya missed stuff, but the great stuff is just starting. Welcome back and see ya in the forums. Just aman
  17. Not bad when the world unites for science. Just aman
  18. I pop in and sometimes I don't have a lot to add but I'd like to say I was here and talk off topic. Just one non-specific section for a little chat. Just a suggestion Just aman

    illusion!

I think our brains are just on the edge of percieving the real information. It reminds me of an early study done with first contact Indian tribes in the jungles. If they saw a picture of their familiar surroundings or animals with a polaroid, all they saw was a flat piece of paper with black and white or colors on it. Their minds weren't ready to see the picture. Our minds can be tricked also. Shame on most of us. Just aman
  20. Looking at it as an electrical engineer I can take a box and give it an input and see on the other side the output and tell you what is at least inside the box. Maybe five components for example. I can also get the same output by filling the whole box with redundant and unnecessary circuits. There should be many different ways to achieve the same result of life and maybe we are still in the box and not the ouput yet. Some life may have skipped ahead by circumstances being favorable. A universe with energy, water, and carbon is bound to form some sort of life over time. Just aman
  21. I'll take it wherever I can get it. Thanks. Just aman
  22. Sometimes I can't argue and have to think. Other times it makes no sense at all. I agree that there should be some connection to the reality we know and it's missing, but it's all outside the box and should be shared. I'm waiting for the proofs. Just aman
  23. I also had trouble getting to the site. Refresh gets me in. I get what you are saying Zarkov on orbital speed. I haven't done the calculations myself but the closer the masses, the faster the orbit. Thanks for the figures to think on. Just aman
  24. Those Knuklheads took months to figure out how to drill a three inch deep hole. I would seal the hole up at the base and pressurize it until all the damn plugs lifted out of the way. Piece of cake. Just aman
  25. Even if you calculate a number of hydrogen atoms over an area at a temperature, it's a moot calculation since physics seems to point to a Higgs boson particle or field that is in all space. That is what CERN is looking for now. There is no true void according to physics right now. Something gives particles mass and something keeps the space we experience stable. A void would have to be a lot smaller than the universe of the Higgs boson. Just aman
