Hi, I am a student in some crazy place on earth, and life is really hectic here. The teachers are just crazy! We have two tests (Maths and English) this week and another two (Chemistry Practical and Theory tests) next week! We never have the time to revise properly, and now I think I really suck in Chemistry and I have to resort to COPYING answers. (What a relief this only happens when I am doing Chemistry worksheets. If I am doing this for every subject, then I am really disappointed with myself. PHEW! ) i just cannot remember how to identify substances during chemistry practicals like what happens to sodium hydroxide if it detects a cation such as Ca+ because there is juz too much to memorise! Pls...someone help me! Is there a good way to remember those results?

Oh...I see. Cheers for the Resourceful One.

Oh, I am glad you have removed that post of yours. Thanks .

It's all right to say that word in my face. But you have just shown the whole community how rude and uncivilised you are. I know you have a point in your advice, but that word ruins everything. I shall construct my own answers, as what you have said, and I just hope you never use that awful word again.

That is very nice of you. And let me tell you, if you are going to write such vague answers in the exams, they are going to give you a zero. If you don't BOTHER to give answers, then please don't. I learn nothing and you are just wasting your time.

URGENT HOMEWORK. A farmer has a sack of ammonium nitrate fertiliser. However, he thinks it may be slaked lime, calcium hydroxide instead. How would you prove that it is not slaked lime but ammonium nitrate? Um...do you add sodium hydroxide to ammnium nitrate and warm it to see if ammonia gas evolves so that you know there is ammonium cation present and not slaked lime? Anyway, sorry for always posting homework in other sections. haha, I din't know that here is a place for me to post homework! sorry for the past inconvenience.

anyway, I have seen the link that you have given me. latentheat (the first person who replied to my question) already gave it.

Thank you for your advice, but I don't like the way you are talking to me. I am just 14 and I don't understand what the links are talking about. They are too difficult for me. I really tried to understand the contents in the links. At least the others are more helpful. I am really hurt by your critical remarks.

Explain why the acidic or basic nature of this substance helps it to serve its purpose as a cleaning product and antacid. UREGNT or IT"S DUE TMR!

This was voted as the world's funniest joke. Two hunters were in the woods when one of them suddenly fainted and lay on the ground motionless. Frantic, the other hunter called the emergency services for help. "First, see if the guy is dead." The guy on the phone advised the hunter. Then the former heard a gunshot in the background. The hunter said, "What next?" Haha. Here's another one. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson went camping on the hills. In the middle of the night, Holmes woke Watson up, and told him what he could deduce from the stars. "Oooh," Watson said, "There are billions of stars in the universe, and from here, I can see the Big Dipper, shining brightly in the sky. Actually, Sherlock, I think there are planets like Earth out there, and perhaps beings that are similar to humans may thrive there." "Watson, you idiot!" Sherlock snapped, "Somebody has stolen our tent!"

Was the first man a baby or an adult?
jazzoff replied to a topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Hmmm....this is no different from the chicken-and-egg question. The answer is, I guess, we will probably never know. Because it's like, if it's a baby, then who produced the baby? Definitely an adult! But where does the adult come from? I think most experts in the area of evolution (I don't know what specific area) do not really bother about this. I am not sure, this is pnly my opinion. -
haha...it IS really due tomorrow, which is today. Thanks anyway!

What are the sources of sodium? What if there is an overdose or lack of sodium? What are the deficiency symptoms and consequences? How is sodium useful to a plant? Thank you.

Yes I am. So do you have the answer?

Lithium and Chlorine both have valencies of one but they form positive one and negative one charged ions respectively during chemical reactions. Explain why. Pls reply ASAP!!!

Why do buffer solutions resist changes in pH? Please include appropriate chemical equations and calculations. Thank you, and pls reply ASAP, because it is very URGENT!

thx

Time and space seem to be very abstract. What are they (Pls provide clear definitions, thx!)? Do they share the same basic definitions that we use in our everyday life? Why are they so important in physics? In which area are they useful? How is the theory of relativity useful? Questions, questions, questions.

Recently, we studied about a company named ICI which produced high protein content animal feed called Pruteen using a fungus called Fusarium . However, as the price of such feed is higher than those made from animal carcasses, Pruteen production ended in 1985. Are there any new animal feed made recently, and are there any alternative feed besides Pruteen ?

It's just a hypothesis without any evidence, according to science. Anyway, I observe that such amusing topics actually attract many replies, though this is a science forum. Perhaps I should write such topics too!

hi. my name is jacques (jazzoff - i like jazz and i am talkative, so ppl usually shoo me away by saying "jazz off, jacques" for the purpose of aliteration i suppose.) and i am a student. i like to ask stupid questions, and when teachers can't decide on who to be the representative for a certain competition, they will write my name without permission. my english sucks too.

Um...I know you are trying to support your point, but Ithink you are a little too harsh on EL...

Does a/0 gives an infinite or undefined answer, if a is any number (real or complex)? And why does it give such an answer?
