  1. My Biology professor showed us this the other day. Needless to say, I have the site bookmarked. Wonderful video! I love the music, too; it almost monumentalizes the cell.
  2. what is a fractal set? forgive my ignorance nevermind; dictionary.com rocks
  3. haha 12th commandment "Thou shall receive cream pie in the face"
  4. Then there might be fewer believeing christians... they couldnt take that seriously... and the newer testament would be chock full of slap stick. i hope i am not smited for that. god rocks what if celebrities had a mechanism where they can't voice any opinion (intelligent or off the wall), but just perform? what if celebrities didnt exist? what if more people were famous for being good people or being smart or helping soceity? what if we could find a new kind of gene therapy that didnt offend anyone and didnt raise an ethics issue? and that people didn't abuse that knowledge for their personal agenda?
  5. I knew I was destined for science when I wanted to be a marine biologist rather than a mermaid after watching the Little Mermaid. Whales became my favorite animals, and I remember going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium when I was six or seven and getting the Whales ZooBook. I kept that until I was probably 15. The mystery of the ocean has always interested me, especially since my family is full of beach bums. I have had really excellent science teachers since 8th grade (excluding my physics teacher). In 8th grade, memorizing facts about rocks was actually fun. In 9th grade we did group projects, and I ended up in the Light and Sight group. Luckily I had already read that chapter (I usually read most of my science textbooks before the first quarter) and led the group. I learned more about eyesight and wanted to be an Opthalmologist until 10th grade. There, I discovered biology. DNA was particularly interesting, although I loved everything. At the end of the year we dissected a fetal pig and it was a ton of fun. In 11th grade I had a fantastic Chemistry teacher and loved that class, especially organic compounds. The next semester in English class I continued my love affair with DNA and wrote my term paper on it. The first semester this year I was really disappointed with physics, she didnt really teach. I fingerpainted, slept, or played uno in that class. I did read chapter 15 on the theory of special relativity during summer, though. The first day I asked her if we would cover it, and she said it wasn't likely. All is well though, I am in Biology AP with an awesome teacher! I am so stoked to do the "Dirty Dozen" and learn as much as possible.
  6. i think life is what you make it
  7. How about e-harmony? Haha I personally don't like the idea of blind dates, especially if it is someone over the internet and there isn't a mutual firend to verify that the person isn't crazy.
  8. I recently saw "The Island," and just wanted to know what opinions other people have of it.
  9. The piece of paper mentioned in Ali Algebra's experiment seemed to fall at a lesser speed than the cardboard because it reached it's state of equilibrium faster. It is was accelerating at the same rate, however, it stopped accelerating sooner because the net force equaled zero, and the air molecules that were causing resistance equaled the amount of mass in the paper sooner than in the cardboard. acceleration = Fnet/mass = weight-resistance/mass If his experiment was in a vacuum, they would have fallen at the same rate, but the experiment he used to justify his theory was not in a vacuum. I hope I explained this well enough, but I just finished physics and did not commit all of it to memory. Thank goodness for notebooks.
  10. This sort of looked like a definition for freckles, and I remember reading a section about UV radiation and how melanocytes protect DNA in Signs of Life: the Language and meaning of DNA by John Pollack, that freckles are areas where melanocytes have more pigment. Moles appear after birth, but I have noticed "new" moles. I have been meaning to go get them removed and checked. http://www.ohiohealth.com/healthreference/reference/C425D20A-25B3-4789-BDC8FEDC04AB2A90.htm?category=questions Now that I have typed this I am not sure if I added anything new but I will post it anyway.
  11. Sodium is an electrolyte which are molecules that help the body maintain the proper amount of water in it. Too much or too little sodium would result in dehydration. Sports drinks advertise containing electrolytes because the body loses them through sweating. However, they usually contain too much electrolytes and less water which dehydrates more than they hydrate. The sports drinks that the football players drink are a lot more watered down than what they sell in the stores because the ones you can buy taste better. Also excessive amounts of sodium is related to high blood pressure, correct?
