  1. I don't understand the bonding of the transitional metals. It seems that the non-metals, the alkali, and the alkaline earth elements have some sort of predictable bonding pattern. I just can't figure out how to predict bonding with the transition metals. Can anyone help?
  2. Just the other day I was talking about chemistry and some guy said a cool experiment was to mix fertilizer, soap, and gas together then lite it. Now this guy really doesn't like me much, and I don't like him very much. So I don't want to try it until I know for sure what it does. Any ideas? Thanks.
  3. I was just surprised that Lowes sells 98% Sulfuric acid. Thats all.
  4. Do you know if any licences are required to get any of these chemicals?
  5. I was wondering where I might be able to order/buy chemicals from. Preferibly from a chemistry catalog, I want to get pure chemicals, not like lye from wal-mart. I would like to get the appropriote licences too, which is why I'm not so keen on Ebay, online stores, ect. Thanks
  6. I didn't know Lowe's sells sulfuric acid!
  7. Thanks.
  8. What about gasoline and oxygen? With plenty of oxygen, this reaction makes nothing but CO2 and H2O. Still it is a very ectothermic reaction.
  9. Is there a way to tell if a reaction will be ectothermic or endothermic just by looking at the chemical equation? Thanks

    The dimensions

What are all of the dimensions? I have an idea what the 5th and 6th dimensions are, but I don't understand the rest. (Maybe some clarification on the 5th and 6th dimensions.) Thanks,
  11. what's a buffer?
  12. I am pretty sure Sulfuric acid is clear, your sulfuric acid must be contaminated with something.
  13. If you dissolve about 3mL of polyvinyl alcohol into 50mL of hot water then add about 1 mL of sodium tetraborate to it, you get a gel like substance that when in its early stages sort of act like what you are trying to descrbe. It is probably not exactly what you are looking for, but I tried my best. Hope that helps some.
  14. Thanks, that makes sense now.
  15. The first time was by accident, then I started to wonder and tried it again and again trying to figure it out.
  16. Thats it, thanks.
  17. A couple days ago, I had a basketball and about 200 grams of applesauce in a plastic container with a lid. I put the applesauce on top of the basketball and just dropped it onto a hard wood floor from about 5'. When the basketball hit the ground, the applesauce can shot strait up, dented the ceiling and the can of apple sauce exploded. I was wondering where the applesauce got all that energy from?
  18. Yes, like polyvinyl alcohol and sodium tetraborate.
  19. I am having some trouble grabing the concept of cross linking. I was wondering if someone could explain how it works. thanks
  20. I only have about 5 grams of both of the substances so I used a capillary tube instead. Does that change anything?
  21. I am homeschooled and for my at home chemistry course I am learning about the melting points in various chemicals. As a bonus in the material, I am supposed to try to supercool Cetyl Alcohol and Palmitic Acid. But I can't seem to get the chemicals below their freezing points without freezing them.
  22. "Lord of the Rings" by JRR Tolkien. The first time I read it was when I was 7.
  23. How would you suggest the human race to fix the global warming effect? Burning hydrogen will only cause in more water vapor which acts like CO2 as a greenhouse gas. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  24. What about volcano's? I bet when Mt. St. Helens erupted, it gave off more CO2 then the human car industry has ever. And considering the amount of volcano's that have erupted in the past century, don't you think that nature could be most of the problem? Another thing that I have noticed is that in this last December, the United States has had nation wide snow storms, two infact. In first one, Nevada, Texas, and California got a couple inches of snow, more or less. The storm spreaded from California to the eastern United States. The second storm, Mexico got a Winter weather advisory! Is this global warming? Right now I have a 8ft snow pile in my front yard! I am very confused about the issue of global warming, many say it is the human races' fault, others say it does not even exist.
