  1. Yep. That's why I myself am skeptical of the practicality of it. But hey, if computers can count atoms, why not!
  2. Taking each number, subtracting 196, and, if necessary, an additional 26: 229 - G 230 - h 248 - z 197 - a 198 - b 216 - j Glad I could be of service.
  3. The theory explained the galaxy redshift away by saying that those closer to the 'center' would of course be falling toward it faster than us, and therefore all be moving away from us. They compared it to spaghettification in a black hole. Also, the theory insists that this is not a cycle, but that somehow the universe was 'formed' statu quo before falling in upon itself, again comparing it to a black hole. This theory certainly does impress fractal enthusiasts!
  4. death "I think, therefore I am" or "I think, therefore I think I am" ?
  5. oops, seems I missed that one and got excited because I knew an answer. *hangs head ashamedly*
  6. According to Einstein, light travels the same no matter which frame of reference you have, so in the case of what you are talking about, that would actually make a lot of sense. Hence the warping of space the nearer one gets to the speed of light. In your scenario, it is time which warps space. Also, it may be that the light is attached to an additional dimension of space, or time, or something in between(!), and it may be this which is warping time AND three-dimensional space. (Should I have posted that in pseudo-science? They certainly don't teach that in high school.)
  7. Hey, I'm sure most of everyone here has heard of the Big Bang theory, and that the universe is expanding, etc. etc. But has anyone heard of the opposed theory, that the universe started out big and is imploding? I heard this for the first time a couple days ago and it took me by surprise. I didn't think any of it made a lot of logical sense at first. Then I kept looking around and found little snippets of info about how the red shift makes it seem like the universe is expanding when all it really indicates is that galaxies are moving away from us. Thus, it could be inferred in this theory that objects closer to the 'center' of the universe are falling into it faster than we are. Any offerings of info/opinion?
  8. A great man once postulated that entire libraries could be stored using a rod with a single mark on it. Measuring the length of the rod up to that mark(with incredible accuracy) you'd come up with some kind of fraction of a distance(i.e., 3.156714509847520475609867). The measuring instrument could feed these digits to a machine. Converting the numbers in the decimal to binary and then using binary to represent characters, it could print out the library! I don't know why that came to my mind... What I was thinking was that perhaps the numbers stood for words rather than letters?
