  1. The message was certainly not only meant for you I would have sent a PM if that was the case "What developments?" Just what is mentioned on that link notting more notting less. This message wasn't meant to start/continu a debate only to add info in this thread for people that are reading it. you got an email because someone added a message in this thread that is it notting more notting less. (in this case it was me)
  2. I don't know about the comparison between different brands but which one would you buy? (I have to look it up also.) Here you can find info about your telescope. http://www.telescopehome.com/meadetelescope.html
  3. for a completely closed AND ideal system you are right like I said in my previous message.
  4. if the energy in this ideal system is constant and the kinetic energy is defined by it's velocity then obviouly the PE can't change if the KE isn't changing and the KE can only change when it's velocity changes therefor only when it is accelerating can the PE and KE change. This isn't true for the link I gave because the man is adding energy in the system while he is pulling the iron up to make the PE increase.
  5. The force of gravity is only 'overcome' when you had the ball in your hand the moment you release it there is notting to 'overcome' gravity and the bal will start to slow down (neg. acceleration) This could help you understand PE and KE. Press the "Potential and Kinetic Energy Experiment" at this page: http://www.visionlearning.com/library/module_viewer.php?mid=46
  6. Uuhm, the force of gravity is unknown to you ? no trick question, unless you see earth as a big trick
  7. about your example: actually the ball doesn't stop accelerating a single moment. but the kinetic energy does reach zero at highest and lowest point. (your arm/body absorbed the energy when you caught it when the kinetic energy was at its high)
  8. I think you should better start a new thread about potential and kinetic energy

    EM Triangle

I dont' understand, I don't see the link between time and a triangle. Maybe a mathematician could help.
  10. Potential and Kinetic energy don't say anything about acceleration. Although kinetic energy has everything to do with movement (incl. velocity) while potential energy has everything to do with distances/lengths/heights.
  11. interesting developments about DX9 games: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11406 and an other article that tells the same as that beyond3D article: http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/video_cards/ati_vs_nvidia/dx9_desktop/001.htm If Doom3 can't at least give the same performance on a FX card as on a DX9 ATI card then Nvidia is doomed.
  12. It's a bit the same question as having a sound and an anti-sound (opposite sound). You can also ask yourself why can't I hear anything when I know there are two sounds. It's only the total sum that counts and that's it.
  13. I just think this should also be mentioned in this thread: F=:lcdelta:(M.v)/:lcdelta:t F=M.a is only valid when M=cte Could someone explain to me how you can do formulas in this forum? can we do vectors? edit: Thanks for the info
  14. acceleration has the same effect as gravity but that doesn't mean that what is attracted by gravity is accelerating. edit: if I could just ones post faster than MrL_JaKiri
  15. You know the equation F=M.a ?? Well, if F isn't 0 then it's accelerating. About your phone you have F of gravity but you have also -F from the table the sum is 0 meaning acceleration is 0. edit: I should press the reload button before pushing the sent button (damn, you all respond fast.)
  16. uuhhm, Am I the only one that knows about the big one that will hit us next week ??? Well, maybe it was just a dream. I let you know next week.
  17. 114mm f/7.9 (900/114) (I wish it was bigger though) like this one: http://otterstedt.abflug.de/atm/newton4.html but with an wooden tripod and a smaller finder. what are your specs? edit: Just in case anyone is wondering 114mm is the diameter of the mirror.
  18. Read this article: http://skyandtelescope.com/howto/scopes/article_241_1.asp FAQ: http://www.perkins-observatory.org/FAQ.index.html When I was young I decide to buy a lens telescope (Refractor) but I first asked a few professionals and they advised a Newton telescope (Reflector) for me and I must say I'm very glad that I didn't choose a lens telescope. When you are young without much knowledge it is very easy to choose the one with the highest amplification. a big amplification has no meaning when all you can see is blur.
  19. This has notting to do with being paranoid, it's al about chance.
  20. Just keep in mind that there are diff. stat. calculations. Chance for collistion of that rock or chance that a rock collide within X time. Also keep in mind that the chance zero doesn't exist only very unlikely exist.
  21. We will probably be told when we are already dead I can't remember when it was I think about 2years back there was an near miss (space distances) but it was only in the news after it passed earth. reason: it was very hard to find it earlier because it came from the direction of the sun. They only found it a few day's before it passed, if I remember correctly. edit: found it http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/space/03/19/asteroid.blindside/index.html and http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/solarsystem/asteroids_miss_020319.html It's funny that "Of the objects that have come closer, only one is bigger" That this is the one we missed seeing one more thing: If there are coming more asteroids in our direction than we statistically calculate then this can mean two things. 1) We are very bad in calulating the statistical chance. OR 2) We have very unfriendly neighbours.
  22. Maybe this could help: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0747565368/qid=1062513702/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3_3/026-8977083-4785210#product-details (I haven't read it.)
  23. here is something you should read: http://www.linux.org/dist/download_info.html I still think you should be motivated to change to Linux AND learn to program as two seperate things. "the ideal OS for home computing and technology enthusiasts" because they want ot sell their product. about 'No OS' I'm not sure but I think it's just a bunch of software to use on an operating system.
  24. That is true we should actually say escape from earth with constantly increasing distance. but it isn't practical: because the earth isn't the only gravitational pull it is very likely that that rock will sooner or later be trapped in orbit around another object.
  25. although that the different Linux distributions are a lot friendlier than in the past you still need to know/understand what you are doing. Just pick a book about programming for beginners and start from there. now there is no need to change anything on your computer. Yes it's more stable but do you really think that will help you understand programming ? Yes you have more freedom but you have no clue about what those are so how will you take advantage of that? basically when you understand why you prefer Linux above windows then you should try Linux but not before. Trust me, starting to learn programming in windows instead of Linux isn't gone give you a disadvantage.
