nice find bascule. Still, even with my low opinion of this kind of media, I could think they'd do a little better than that. GEEZ! By the way, who of us on SFN is registered with the military? (I'm not)

Who`s Smart enough to figure out this?

Even if it is a txt msn, or text message, whatever that is, what do the numbers stand for? That's what I want to know! How is "txt msm" even an answer? -
I nominate Roy J. Glauber "for his contribution to the quantum theory of optical coherence." He won the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physics after all. That's gotta mean something. He also did it in the "World Year of Physics" according to wikipedia, the 100th year of Einstein's famous three papers.

It's a hit, yet will they feel it? I can see them laughing at this saying, "Oh, I'm not that pro-creationist.

Most of us will never see any of these dates. not the best answer, but it is an answer. -
So I did. My apologies to both of you. ..back to cannibalism
-
There are some bad genetic defects occuring down the generation line when cultures partake in cannibalism. I think I saw it on the Discovery Channel, but I couldn't find anything about it on wikipedia. Anybody know more about this?

Dude, that's scary. You may have found a new breed of water degraders, permanently leaving water with an awful smell. The only thing I could think of is adding chemicals or other things to the water...not sure what though. But I suppose it would have to non-toxic, that is, if you want to have your water not kill you. What are some chemicals added to water to clean it (besides chlorine)?

that feather-legged bug is probably the inspiration for the "brain-sucking bug" in Starship Troopers. The execution was well manipulated--pretty advanced form to lure and confuse.

For all Brian Greene fans: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=1770003 Another great "meaning of life" scenario.

Does epistasis not contribute to hair and skin color anymore? I was always under inpression that the genes responsible for one always affected the other. By this rule, if one had dark skin, they would have dark hair. If one had light skin, they have a lighter color hair (However, the white skin is recessive for affecting hair color.) Europeans may originally have had dark skin, but they also would have dark hair. Their skin color changed by influx of new genes, and thus hair color changed with it.

same thing you have to do with ecoli infected water. Wasn't there an incident like this in the Great Lakes area some time ago?

This may be the least of his worries. First, I worry about getting out the harmful stuff before worrying about the beneficial minerals. Bacteria, viruses, gahhhhh, I couldn't think about drinking something with even the slightest wiff of an unpleasant odor. Luckily, I don't get bad smells, but what I do get is still offish. I get rusty water that is rusty tasting (not that I drink it, but only out of curiosity.) And when it's not rusty, it has waaaay too many hard minerals for water. To help with your problem, have you looked to the source in your water pipes? Is there ANY source for contamination nearby?

I hope you haven't turned this in yet. It may be wise to look it over and check the validity of just about everything; I know Wikipedia to be better than that.

Congratulations for the end of another semester...

Way to go Dale. Finally, another highschooler. I just thought I'd tell you my term ended on the sixteenth. booyah! -
this works only if you are calculating the probablity of getting all problems correct. But for each question the probablity is the same--25%. When you fill out a test at random, the probability of your final test score is still 25%. Logically, and by laws of probablity, a mean of students taking a test at random, the grade comes by 1/4. Same thing for 4 multiple choice questions with four choices each. one in four will be correct. Only when you combine the two categories do you need a different equation. Saying that the more multiple choice question you have the lower the change of getting them right is utterly obvious. Were you unsure of the equation?

Maybe you did it wrong.

would it not have been easier to start a sub-category here? It may take you awhile to get rolling. And here you have the audience. Regardless, I've joined as support, even if I don't contribute much.

Alcohol and how it affects personality?
starbug1 replied to jdurg's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
There's your problem. Maybe stop drinking and the answer will come to you, as you were sooo drunk to begin with. On the other hand, you could've tipped back a couple more beers and you would've nailed her one. At least this way in the morning, you wouldn't have to remember fighting the moral stigma of taking or leaving the sex. But boy were you happy. -
I'm wondering more about the whole problem of the situation. Even if a cooperation was able to adopt a child, are there not any laws keeping them from doing something like that to a human? There would have to be major conflict, I think, possibly some picketing. I have no problem in believing it would reach the supreme court. And how it affects the person when he does find out, and move on with his life? There are psychological problems and social problems and this and that all coming down from some loophole in evolution. I know the idea for this movie was based on a Philip K. Dick story, and his style was based on this kind of paranoia and control of others. And an ulterior intention under quotations such as these: Sylvia: Look at what you've done to him! Christof: I have given Truman the chance to lead a normal life. The world, the place you live in, is the sick place. Truman Burbank: Was anything real? Christof: You were real. That's what made you so good to watch... And there were loads of others. The way they care only about ratings and how making a human seem like a robot. Even the people, his closest friends, his wife, were robots! When you read something like this in a book, and not just as a thriller on the big screen, you're much more easily disgusted. It kinda reminds me of extreme socialism, or the uprising of communism, like Hitler or something. And it can be compared to books such as Animal Farm, 1984, Brave New World, and the entire Philip K. Dick library. I want to know some opnions on possible affects this has. Obviously, it takes place in the future. But for something like this to happen, mankind has to evolve into something less conscious, with less remorse. I think it is all to real, and happening all too fast. To be sure, I'm not just talking about a tv show or someone's life, this could cause a ripple effect, sounding out across the world in everything we do. Scary. p.s. congrats.

I was disappointed when there was no "6 or more books at a time" selection, for that is my average. Right now in the rotation it's about 5. A variety of fiction, non-fiction, biography, and science.
