Speldosa: the video I posted isn't an fMRI scan. the images are created by measuring the electrical activity over the cerebral cortex.
-
Here is a piece of brain scan footage I've been looking for. It basically shows electrical activity in the brain, (More specificaly the cerebral cortex) moving from place to place. the video is slowed down considerably. The orange areas represent areas of more intense activity whilst the blue areas represent lower electrical brain/cerebral activity. As you can see, around between 10% and 30% of the brain is active at any one time, but on average, the whole brain is used. occipital lobe is on the right; frontal on the left.

Good survey, although, not knowing the sexual orientation of either party, plus not knowing if they are attractive or repugnant individuals made judgement difficult. i.e. If Jane were a smoking hot, intelligent brunette, dancer/gymnast with neck-down-alopecia; my reponses to her would be different than if she were a rancid, sour-faced moron whom crawled from the ugly swamp - on fire - then beaten back in with a shovel. Maybe the unknowns are integral to the survey, but not knowing the orientation of the individulas means one can't decide on their behalf as to their feelings. A lesbien frind of mind once hit a guy for pinching here arse... heterosexual male friend of mine would freak out if another guy was eyeing him up. I had to respond to the questions with what I would do in the situations given.

Here a few links. BTW my original recolection "IIRC, sea turtles on Ascension Island hatch on a particular full moon" Wasn't correct, they use the moon for navigation and the sand temperature for timing. http://www.heritage.org.ac/HS23.htm http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8145000/8145125.stm http://www.animalcorner.co.uk/insects/moths/moth.html

We use 100% of our brain. but may only be using a smaller percentage at any one instant in time. different part of the brain do different jobs. one part does vision, another does sound, another is used for moving, a small part of the brain is there just for facial recognition. If you not looking at a face, that part of the brain would be mostly inactive. Rather like a company or organisation, all of the employees are needed and used, sometimes a group of them aren't doing anything much, while a few are doing some work. Then, the ones who were working might stop and some others start working. In this analogy, the ones which aren't working are only doing so for a fraction of a second as work is distributed very quickly around the company. Have a look here

If you don't understand the meaning of the words you use, it's best not to use them. What, in your mind do you mean by 'Metaphysical continuum'? On what do you base the assumption that the universe is diverging into it? How could you best explain you ideas? Either with data or observations. Or possibly with an analogy or thought experiment.
-
Metaphysical: Adj. Having the form of an empirical hypothesis, but in fact immune from empirical testing and therefore literally meaningless Continuum A continuous extent, succession, or whole, no part of which can be distinguished from neighboring parts except by arbitrary division. Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedHaving read my own post. I've realised that a great many things - ideas, social constructs, human actions etc - could be considered 'Metaphysical continuums'

Thanks for the Wiki link Klaynos, it pretty much says it all - in that: "There is no universally used singular form in modern English of "cattle", other than the sex- and age-specific terms such as cow, bull, steer and heifer." The term 'Cow' will just have to do. A conversation involving Cattle, whales and elephants could get confusing, but I've not had a conversation like that in ages!
-
I thought about calling them cattle, but as you said it's plural and kind of colloquial. Also IIRC catle is from the Latin Catis, meaning property or moveable posesions. Thanks Dr DNA, I didn't realise there were so many varieties of Happy-meal-to-be! Still no easy name for Bos Premigenius.

This is an elephant. The male of this species is called a bull; the female, a cow This is a whale. It's male is also called a bull and its female is a cow So what animal is this? its male is a bull; its female a cow (Female pictured) but what do we refer to this animal as? It could be called a Dometic ungulate, but this colloquial term also include horses and other hoved animals. The only other options would be to give it its Latin name 'Bos primigenius' but this is a bit of a mouth-full. Or we could give it it's specific breed name 'Freisian' But this can get complicated as you'd have to know all the different breeds. Moreover, the other two mammals I've pictured are seldom refered to by their Latin Names, nor by there specific breed. Does anyone know of, or can anyone thnk of a good name for these burger giving, milk producing beasts?

With reguards to the, new world order, global conspiracy hypothesis which has been floating around of late. I'd ask that the question of "Is there/isn't there a NWO / Global conspiracy?" Should be broken down into smaller parts for closer analisys. Thus: 1. Are there persons/personalities which are not democratically elected, which can exert influence and/or control over our every day lives, or control and/or influence governments? 2. Are said persons/personalities all working together -with each other - toward a common goal, pulling the same way toward a 'Global conspiracy' or 'new world order' IMO, question #1 would be mostly true to a greater or lesser degree depending and the specifics of any given matter Question #2 would be mostly faslse, due to logistics, human nature and some of the things Insane Alien mentioned. The two questions above could be broken down further still into smaller parts for a more in depth, pragmatic analysis.

There'll be a plethora of knowledge on how the cycle of the moon and the changing of the seasons affect the behaviour of living organisms. Especially with reguard to mating/reproductive habits of animals. IIRC, sea turtles on Ascension Island hatch on a particular full moon, alot of animals mating seasons allow that their offspring are born in spring time, many animals navigate - and thus behave - acording to the moon's position it's more an aspect of biology than astrobiology.

Couldn't there be a compramise; Some sort of multi-faith memorial? A Churmoscagogue

Presumeably you could remove the air fromthe jar, so the cheese is in a vacuum http://www.pump-n-seal.com/

Cool, I've tried but it never worked properly. Maybe with enough of you, you could form a choir!

You can force it down though. I went to school with someone who could forcibly inflate his oesophagus by swallowing air the burp the alphabet! He now works for IBM

All four are on one side of the computer's mother board, it's still all working ok though. (I use the term computer loosley, it's actully a bunch of salvaged lap-top parts stuck together.) New computer coming soon though.

I worked in commercial kitchen for some years. English regs state the all cooked food must be cooked through @ 75 degrees celcius or above in order to kill dangerous microbial life (In Scotland the regs say 84 degrees, Scotish bugs must be hardier?!) Steak is exempt, you can have it brought to your table raw if you wish.

Thanks Cap'n Refsmmat, that did the trick. I removed a little used unpowered hard-drive from the USB port and all is running fine now. BTW didn't mean to start a 'War of the OS' I use Linux because it works better for me, easier to use, less stressfull, many open source applications etc. It makes my computer work how I want my computer to work. I'm just an average computer user, no specialist knowledge; Linux is just right.

There are other things plugged in The keyboard and mopuse are both USB. I had a feeling it could be something like that. I'll unplug them and see what effect i get. Liking the powered USB hub idea. I'll play around and see what happens Thanks

I just got myself a USB wifi adapter so as i can log-on to my building's free wifi, rather than paying every month for a wired connection. Can't get the damn thing working! Ubuntu's device manager is telling me that there is "Insufficiant power" to operate the device. it knows it's there but can't operate it. The instructions say it works with Linux Anyone have any ideas as to how I can overcome this problem? I know the USB wifi device works; I'm using it in Windows for the time being in order to view and post on SFN. I need to get back to Linux where its safe and warm and stuff works properly. Please help... I'm stuck using a microsoft operating system! please help...There isn't much time... it may already be too late! The viruses and bugs are taking over me... aaarrghh. This Mickey Mouse OS is sending me over the edge... I'm losing my hair and fingernails in the frustration, one more pop-up and I just might pop!

The way I see it: the only real difference between the left and the right; the red and the blue, is the level at which the government interjects with economic flow. In one scenario: The government decides it needs some money to build something, it borrows money from the Fed or similar investor (Bank or otherwise) and then spends it into the economy on building what-ever the government needs where it eventually ends up going to private companies, then untimately into the pockets of individuals, the original loan is then paid back via taxation of said individuals In another scenario: A person or personality decides he/she or it needs some money. The money is borrowed from a bank or similar investor, the money is then spent into the economy, where it eventually ends up going to private companies, then untimately into the pockets of individuals. The original loan is then paid back to the bank via the personalities profit which come from the pockets of the afore mentioned individuals. These are two simple extemes. Either side of the political bench would favour more of one scenario than the other; each claiming the one scenario is better overall than the other. The former has the benefit of a more shared liability, but is at higher risk of money being miss spent as it is logistically more complex The latter suffers more from an increase in individual liability but is usually less wastful (people spend/invest their own money more wisely the goverments spend/invest other people's money.) In both cases, money is borrowed from and ends up back in the bank. To put it peotically, money is like water, nourishing a crop The first scenario is like a rain cloud, the second is like a hose pipe. It came came from - and returns to - the ocean. p.s. The application of interest to either system will eventually collapse them both. Unless of course, more money is created as bank credit (debt) to service the previous debt.

It would be a near perfect way to run a monetary supply IA. I like it. It's socially empowering rather than socially parralizing. The supply of money could only inflate if more people did more work and wasted less, which in itself would benefit everyone. How would specialisms be rewarded though. i.e. an hour of toil in the fields earn you 1kWh; would an hour of highly skilled or dangerous work earn you more Kwh's per actual hour?
