well at the risk of sounding Cynical again on yer another Thread, there`s no such thing as a "free lunch" however at a stretch, one of thermodynamic laws states that matter/enenrgy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed. and so in one respect by default, everything`s in perpetual motion. thats how I see it anyway not sure if it can be tapped into so to speak though?
-
Matter yeah, I agree, Iv`e considered it as such also. physicaly incomplete equals handicapped to me too (though on occasion it`s better to be without a malfunctioning component that with it and make yourself MORE handicapped) and yes Giles I was Diagnosed, they don`t give drugs and hospitalisation away for no reason

Chriogenical Freezing (dont know about spelling)

VM (hope you don`t mind the short version?), the diagram didn`t display on my pooter sorry the Ice phase VII at 100c!?!?! wowzers! I`de like to see some of that or even try make some, I personaly cannot see how it`s even possible tbh, I was aware of 3 stages for water 4 If you count superheated water (not boiling but over 100C). begs tyhe question what something like that ice VII would actualy look and feel like, It certainly couldn`t be COLD Hmmm... certain Practical aplications spring to mind too! do you have the URL`s that you looked at please? all the best -
wow, many seem to have REALLY lost the point and msg in my posts, I`m quite astounded actualy. re: the alcoholic; no one mentioned what you did other than you? my point was the best resolves ever made and kept were those borne of personal choice. And yes we DO have total control of our mindsets, by default it wouldn`t be a "mindset" else if you want substanciation(sp), look at any one of Anthony Robins books. esp the part(s) about NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programing). do you REALLY think we`re as helpless as some (and also you to a point) try to make out? is there no such thing as personal responsibilty anymore? sorry if I sound cynical, even critical at times with regards to this, and if it offends some folks, well that`s NOT my intentention at all, maybe even worth trying to evaluate WHAT part offends and WHY!? and I DID say from the outset, that I`m rellating my own PERSONAL experience. as for facts, yes 100% as ANY Scientist sees the evidence of his own eyes repeatedly, as have I with this area. ok sure I`ve lost a few aquantainces through suicides, and had a few that were close or attempted, the one`s still alive are all of the same opinion as myself, depression is a "wake up call" like a sneeze or cough is for a Cold or maybe Flu. on the flip side, there ARE a good many mallingering wasters out there that do just for the attn too! how you could deny that is beyond me? Physiological illness that results in depression, I have no experience with, but then I wasn`t addressing that either. I sincerely hope that clears things up, at least a little bit maybe?
-
ROFLOL, go figure I never claimed NOT to be Cynical about it all, having been through "the mill" I sure as have a right to be also!, Giles ya know sod all about me so chill! fact is a good many just need a damn good "wake up call" how many times have you heard of a chronic alcoholic that got sick and tired of waking up sick and tired? then made a resolve to never drink again and DIDN`T drink again! sad fact is, mankind tries to control everything else in his life and can`t... and the only thing he has total control over (his mindset) is the only thing he CHOOSES not to! work it out before you say I`m totaly wrong!

it`s -273c or 0 degrees Kelvin you refer to it`s the lowest theoretical temprature possible -273.16 deg C it`s calculated buy the freezing points of Hydrogen and helium to when they become a solid (like Ice) and the differential between them. he`s quite probably correcet, o Kelvin has yet to be obtained, we can get with in a few fractions of a degree close to it, but not to "Absolute" according to certain ideas, at this 0 kelvin, even an electron orbit will be halted! and the "ideal gas" will actualy vanish! (neat stuff huh!) I don`t understand what you mean about burning something though?

aha! yeah, now that interesting! I watched something similar to that on a Discovery chan, I was about methan gas fusing with water at very low tems and under exteme presure, it looked a bit like snow that burns! wierd stuff! -
I`m sure most have heard of Hypochondriacs that think themselves into all sorts of illness and then one day they eventualy get what they fear. Or certain tribal people that can literaly WILL themselves to death! and on the flip side, certain Cancer patients that use imagery and put a potentialy fatal cancer into remmision! Well... we`ve often heard of the negative sides how folks can beleive themselves into almost anything, and it will physicaly manifest itself. I`m more interested in the otherway round, COULD the same ideas be used to Live longer, stay healthier, enhance imunity to the point of killing a Flu virus within hours, stay younger looking etc... there`s been so much data about Psychosomatic Illness, how about Psycosomatic WELLNESS?

Voltage-Current Characteristics of a Solar Cell
YT2095 replied to iwfc87's topic in Classical Physics
or the voltage across the current meter and do a simple PD calc between that and the suplly voltage, either way will tell you the meters internal resistance if it doesn`t have documents with it -
I`ll be sure to tell my Flight Commander to pass a msg to the Human Sciences dept, that what ever she`s doing must be good, as most Humans are still convinced that it`s just a dream

Don`t forget the little triangular shaped marks! You know... the ones you get when you fall asleep on a Toblerone chocolate or those little green tinfoil wrapped ones in Quality Street I think the state (excuse spelling) Is called either Hypnopomic or Hypnogogic, both are valid, just one occurs whilst falling to sleep (I get that) and the other when waking from sleep.

It`s a bit like electricity I guess, you need 2 opposite poles to make a circuit work, a marriage is like a circuit in this analogy. I`m happily married, and we`ve had some REAL nuke wars! but they get less as time goes on, so I`m not so much for the compromise gene, I think it`s a learned behaviour rather than an inate one.

Voltage-Current Characteristics of a Solar Cell
YT2095 replied to iwfc87's topic in Classical Physics
ok, across the solar cell, put a voltage meter across the pos and neg terminals, leave it there, that will read the voltage suplied. now, from your pos terminal attatch a current meter, then the other wire from the current meter to a known value of resistor (1 Ohm) would be a good place to start, the neg lead from your cell attatches to the other side of the resistor, making a circuit. from here you will be able to see both voltage and current. take these results and plot it on your graph. then use a different resistor value, maybe 2 ohms or 5 ohms, and plot that on your graph, do this with as many different values as you like, then join the dots -

Hmmm.. Interesting! is there anyway I could try this at home without blowing something up? ie/ pressure vessels, 12 gram CO2 canisters? I gather you fill it with water, seal it, freeze it, and hope it doesn`t blow the door off or your hand when you re-open it -
What things might look like at the speed of light..
YT2095 replied to blike's topic in Other Sciences
LOL I was thinking along the lines of that old question about what happens if you`re traveling in a car at light speed then turn your headlights on, what do you see? (other than a load of Cops chasing you for speeding). -
LOL @ Glider, I love that description Actualy is there ANY reason at all that that would even TRY to explode? I can`t see there sufficient Pu mass for that to happen, a meldown maybe possible in a Jupiter sort of way, meaning that the Pu would get Hot evaporoate then get lost in the gasses and probably wouldn`t even show up as a trace. and even if it did go boom I can`t see it setting fire to anything anymore than the shumacker Levi 9 impacts did. Opticaly I don`t recon there`de be much if anything to see, and maybe an insignificant radio spike not much bigger than background static. I think a comet of pure frozen Oxygen would make a neat display though

I agree to certain point, and yes I`m sure it sounds a bit harsh, but those are the sorts of things I had to tell myself to get over it. Realising that no-one could nor would help me, other than myself! I had to do it. and after all why SHOULD have to help me with depression, it`s not like they Owe me anything. And after realising that, and that it was all down to me ultimately. I did something about it. with regards to Seasonal Effective Disorder, sure I get that and so do quite a few folks I know, but that`s a biological thing and nothing to really worry about anymore than getting tired at the end of the day in my opinion. apparently a few hours a week on a sunbed is suposed to work in many cases too. but I`ve found with things like depresion, getting MAD at it rather than let it eat you alive is a very workable method

Chriogenical Freezing (dont know about spelling)
YT2095 replied to M-CaTZ's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
I realise it must be possible for simple organisms like in IVF and Embrionic freezing, but I still can`t get my head round the expansion thing? ok sure a zygote or a gamete would take micro seconds to freeze, but why doesn`t it rupture? or at least go soggy and flacid like some veg do if you don`t blanch them before freezing? -
Chriogenical Freezing (dont know about spelling)
YT2095 replied to M-CaTZ's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
I wouldn`t have thought that sharp edges wouldn`t be so much of an issue given at water expands 11% on freezing anyway. surely it would still rupture the cell wall as it does with frozen pipes or milk bottles, the net effect is that same? and an anti-freeze that replaced ALL the water (it would have to) is surely going to be toxic, if not almost impossible to flush completely away? -
they sell some kinda goggles too with a flashing LED in them that you wear at night for this lucid dreaming thing too I don`t know how it works (or even if it does). but they claim it`s suposed to? Ever had a drean you ate the Worlds biggest marshmallow, and then woke up and your pillow was missing?!

oh??? And I always thought it was going to be a giant Black Monolith that turned Jupiter into a sun Silly me

Well speaking personaly, and after several years of clinical depression about 15 years ago (won`t go into details) and having tried many different medications, some of which made me feel even worse! and non of them actualy worked, I eventualy got sick of it, and decided to "Get off mt a$$" and do something about it myself, things like FORCING myself to get out the house, opening my mail rather than just pushing it back out the letter box, opening my curtains, MAKING myself actualy talk to folks, going out during the daytime etc... sure it wasn`t easy at first, but eventualy it worked, and I`ve never looked back since
