Here`s an Idea I`ve been tinkering with in my head ever since I saw a twin Tesla Coil arrangement. Forgive me if I get the polarities wrong, but so long as they`re different, it`s easily corrected. the Earth has a possitive charge and the sky and clouds have a negative charge, occasionaly it will build up and we`ll get lightening. Electricity always takes the shortest path, and so ligtening will strike the tallest and or most conductive path to Earth. now on a golf course it may happen to be a tree or a man about to take a swing with his club. currently (excuse the bad pun) we use strips of metal on a high point to conduct this lightening safely to earth. My idea: what if a small electronic + ion generator were to be stuck on a small pole (6 foot high) right next to a tree that was 30 foot high. the possitive ions streaming out would effectively make it seem a shorter path for the lightening. a bit like artificial height. would the lightening hit the small but strongly possitive pole, or the 30 foot tree that was at just earth potential? the tree is passive, the device would be an active attractor. any thoughts as wether it work or be marketable? Does anyone know how well these carbon nanotubes conduct electricity? I ask because many fishermen die each year using carbon fiber rods and hit powerlines. Would lightening have an effect on this space tether? or the 11 year solar sunspot activity, the one that took out Quebec in 1989 as the power transmition lines overloaded becuase of sunspots, and they were in our protective geo magnetic feild.

plants take phosphates from the soil, animals eat the plants and the phosphates then go into bone structures and cell mitachondria as ATP<>ADP. we then eat these animals and plants as were top of the food chain (end users). Then we die and get cremated, stuck in an Urn and buried, most of the ash it in the form of calcium phosphate. the ones that get sprikled into the sea or land are doing their bit for recycling, those that have a traditional burial also do, those we keep on a shelf somewhere are the really selfish ones, that will leech away at our phosporus, but I recon we`de need the surface area of the USA to be coved in little Urns to make a significant impact

Similar research was done, exposing either just the upper parts and lower parts of the letters in a sentence, according to results, we read the TOP parts of the letters (English) more than the bottom parts. You may test this with a partner and a rule (not transparent!) on a pge at random in any book, cover the top parts of the words, THEN try make sense of it then do the same on another page where you can only see the tops of the words I have NO idea how or why is is such, test it yourselves and go figure I THINK it`s to do with probability/Uniqueness ? but am more than prepared to be wrong also

nope I didn`t come up with it, a m8 of mine did about 12 years ago (hence I agree it`s old) but it sure had me confused for a good while until I "reverse engineerd" the problem. sad part is tho, I keep forgeting my conclusion I know it worked along the lines of aproaching an equasion from both ends simultaiously and it will NEVER read true... rem the old kids trick where you PROOVE you have 11 fingers? put both hands up and count them 10 digits, now on 1 hand from ouside in go: 1 2 3 4 5. on the other hand go 10 9 8 7 6. 6 and 5 = 11

I recon the human mind could quickly adapt if all of a sudden we could see a little into the IR section of the EM spectrum, I mean it`s not like a HUGE leap or anything, we can already FEEL (touch sense) Black body radiation, it just means that we`de be able to see a little of it too. pathways,,, Hmmm... I don`t think that would really be an issue in all honesty, although given many generations with this ability it would indeed become "hardwired" into us I expect.

could I "legaly" replace the word hypothesis with idea? I hypothesise that if you use plastic the electicity wont pass and make a circuit. my idea is that if you use plastic... blah blah...

fact is (as I understand it from here) that we all have these proteins within our eyes, to a greater or lesser extent, they do exist, but not in sufficient quantities that enable use to perceive IR radiation. using the old maxim "we are what we eat" (and to some extent that holds true) is not possible that these proteins couldn`t be built upon by at least slowing thier decay rate and therefore haveing more working ones at any given time?

so, what`s BAD? show the flaw. it obviously IS flawed, but where? Each statement and event could occur in realtime when reading it, where is the flaw though

soz, I thought they did, probably got it wrong with detect as opposed to see. as for the foods, I don`t see why not? we know that certain foods contain certain reactants that do have a physiological effect upon our systems, surely that could also be possible on the possitive side of things too? we know that methanol oxidises to formaldehyde and affects the optic nerve to send you blind, and that Vit C can be a very good anti-oxidant and both survive the digestive acid HCl(aq) quite well. Don`t get me wrong, I`m thinking that eating `X` so many times a week will make see IR, but surely there`s foods that will assist in this protein production, even if it`s only to slow it`s decay over time?

here`s a little puzzel for the math`s folk on here 3 Businessmen go into a hotel and ask for a room, they don`t have enough money for a room each so they decide to share a room. the guy at the desk was still new at his job and said it would cost 30 dollars (use pounds if you want). they each pay 10 dollars and hand him the 30 and goto their new room. sometime later... the manager asks the guy at the desk how`s bussines doin, he then explains about the 3 bussinessmen and the 30 dollars he got, the manager says NO, give them a discount if they share, charge them 25 dollars! the manager leaves along comes a bell boy. the guy at the desk hands him 5 1 one dollar notes and asks him to give it to the business men in room whatever. so he walks off up the stairs and round the coridors and thinks to himself 3 men, 5 dollars??? Hmmm.. I can keep 2 dollars myself and just give them 3 back, so he puts 2 dollars in his pocket and gives the 3 men a dollar each. so now each man has only paid 9 dollars well... 9 X 3 = 27 and the bell boy has 2 dollars and 27 + 2 = 29? so where has the other dollar gone? Matter I agree with on most of your points there, but I also understand what Faf was saying too, you can live a good long life on herion or cocaine with little to non of the adverse effects that cannabis MAY cause. what he didn`t say is that he`s refering to pharmacutical grade products, the street stuff WILL kill ya! it mixed with everything from Ajax oven cleaner to rat poison and not withstanding that, it`s hardly sterile either. whereas cannabis (smoked) the heat sterilises it for you. a good many very famous people were hooked on coke or herion (some scientists too!) but the stuff was pure and correctly dosed. I dare say that if delta9 TetraHydroCannibinol was pharmacuticaly pure also, the same would apply, but it would still "take out" the ones predisposed to mental illness.

Well dispite my penchant for MAD magazine, here`s a book and an Author I find truly inspirational!, the religious fanatic on here wouldn`t like it (or at least not admit it) "Man the Machine" by, Frank George, ISBN: 0 586 08281 6. Paladin original Granda publishing Ltd. 1979. This book is a REAL thought provoker! A.I is not as impossible as some may think! My all time favorite Author has to be Rudy Rucker (he`s also a lecturer) his fictional works are so awesome it beggers belief! he`s a mathematician(sp?) also, and has writen many non-fiction books also, together with s/ware (mostly fractal based at last contact).

light (photons) is a cross between a wave and a particle. In a vacume it`s speed is a constant. in a medium it is then subject to gravitational forces that will slow it a tiny bit. it doesn`t travel in a straight line exactly either, it`s a bit like a wave form going up and down, but the overall waveform does travel in a straight line (if unhindered). a bit like crinckle cut potato chips when you thow one. gravity effects light because of it`s Particle nature, but this particle can only exist if it`s as a waveform also. you`de never find a stationary photon.

as far as I know one of the 1`st laws of Thermodynamics states that the Universe is organised to Chaos (sounds a contradiction to me) and that`s why if you get a neat stack of papers and throw them up into the air, they land all over the place (like playing 52 pickup). personaly, I`m open minded as to wether or not TRUE Chaos really exists, or is it our inability to calculate ALL the variables in a "chaotic system". maybe the stack of papers in the air is a bad example, but it`s the one used often. MAYBE with a powerfull enough computer with all the correct sensors to monitor EVERYTHING that could effect the outcome, the position of each peice could be predicted as it landed? My jury`s still out on that one
