  1. Call that debt. That is not new. IMHO I think that Greece's debt is upon an exponentional curve. It does not matter how much money the Greeks have consumed, what matter is the amount of money interests growth have created. IOW the fault is not only on the Greeks, the fault is also on the mathematics of the actual banking system. See here a brilliant explanation of the results of the exponential function.
  2. They are creating a private army (already counting 2000 men)*, they have weapons hidden in places all over Greece, they are creating printed press, a tv channel, internet press. They get money (some millions Euros) from the state as a party of the parliament. Their voices (their screams) are heard everywhere. They say the crisis is injustice. They give free food for the hungry Greeks (ONLY for the Greeks). They patrol 6 by 6 in disregarded urban areas. They protect Greek people and Greek shops from robbery. When an old lady does not dare coming back late at night, she calls Chreessee Avgee and she gets a free escort. They gently ask (6 by 6 with baseball bats) the Chinese owners to leave the corner, or other Pakistanese, Roma, etc. whoever is not Greek. Leaving the area clean. The same goes in rural areas. Who is waiting for a loss in popularity? A couple of days ago, one of them committed a murder (against a Greek citizen and not a foreigner - dramatic error) Today they are in a bad political situation. Tomorrow, in 2 years from now, at the next elections, who will remember that? * Golden Dawn, upon it's own declaration, is organized as an army. It is an army.
  3. No comment.
  4. Same here. 1or 2 minutes for the first login. Then slightly faster. Maube the cause is in NSA server or GCHQ or both.
  5. Here is the documentary. At 19.05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWZv-BdpTaw Thanks to info from the another Forum, see below ---------------- Note: I wonder what is the purpose of inventing THIS Googling Holger Hildebrand you get replies only from the same HOAX. Isn't there anybody to sue the inventor of such a lie?
  6. The Acousticon from Miller Reese Hutchinson
  7. A cell phone does not work if there is no provider. You need a gsm antenna somewhere that had to travel in time with the lady of the movie.
  8. Thanks to AJB from whom I discovered the link, the list of the winning entries of the past years is very instructive. http://www.improbable.com/ig/winners/ I liked especially the 2011 mathematics prize Although this is not for laugh. I missed the prize for all those who predicted the end of the world in 2000 and 2012.
  9. After all this discussion, has anyone of us changed his mind? Or was this a waste of ...time?
  10. Woaw, a way to see the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg on a world map!
  11. (bolded mine) Did I? I must have expressed myself badly. I certainly didn't want to mean that time is a kind of aether, no. I mean that time is a part of reality like space is. (bolded mine) Confusing statements. What you observe at a distance from you is in the past. The statement "you cannot observe anything removed in time from you" is a statement that seems wrong to me. Everything you observe is removed in time from you.
  12. Bolded. The misunderstanding comes from the "that you can travel up and down it like for example the X axis" part. When you travel up and down the X axis, or right & left, you travel a distance. This distance is always positive (see below) Like time. from wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distance#Distance_versus_directed_distance_and_displacement there is no negative distance, no negative time, no negative velocity. --------------- (edit) the confusion comes from the concept of direction. Direction is something extracted from spacetime, it indicates "from here to there". I wonder if the concept of direction can exist in space only, without time. .......... wondering.
  13. The past is not a human illusion. Everything you observe around you belong to the past. In fact, you cannot observe the present. And you cannot observe the future either. The point on which I agree is that all that "exist" is that is (if that means anything). There is no need for time to "exist" as if it was some kind of aether. Not more than space. I also agree that "no copies are made" and somehow that "the same matter remains", with a little difference: _the same matter "moves" through time exactly as the same matter moves through space. To me space & time have exactly the same nature.
  14. Time is what makes you unique, Daniel. You need time to go from one place to another. You cannot be at 2 places of space at the same time. If you could, there would exist 2 Daniels at 2 different places and that would have the result for Daniel not to be one person anymore but 2 persons. If you insert the possibility for a particle to "play with time" and be at many places simultaneously, or go back in time, then this particle would multiplicate itself.
  15. I really am amazed with people having problem with time and having no problem with space. Why don't you ask yourself "what is distance"? If you really- but really- very profoundly - think about it, you may realize that it is not obvious at all: what is distance. It is not less mysterious than Time.
  16. You should. I cannot really explain this but it means that a spinning block falling over your head has the same KE than a non-spinning block. From what I know from Laws of Motion, that makes sense.
  17. Flexibility is unavoidable not desirable. Imagine your own house or appartment. Half an inch movement from flexibility would produce cracks everywhere. Huge cracks. Most regular buildings accept no flexibility at all. Say you are the engineer and discuss with an architect about your design. The architect would tell you that yes the triangle structure is stable but produces a triangle floor which is not very good for architectural organization. Why not do it on a square plan? Then the architect would agree putting staircases and lifts in the inclined beams. Then in order to increase the solidity, make the beams in an already curved scheme. And finally decide to replace the cables with a more solid structure able to withstand compression as well as traction. And you would obtain something like this:
  18. That could be, but that would change the purpose of the structure. this is a mast which purpose is basically to bear its own weight until a specific height. The antenna at the top has negligible weight, it is not a "building", it is a structure, like a bridge of some sort. IOW it is done in order to put at the least cost an antenna high above the ground. The triangle you propose would change dramatically the structure. First of all the mast is vertical and the metallic structure is almost entirely in compression along its vertical axis. When you put the "mast" under an angle, it will not be under compression only but will start to bend since it will stop to be a mast and become an inclined beam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bending.svg So the beam should be designed thicker than the mast. Secondly, if one wants to introduce floors, it means that the structure must bear much more weight. Third, if you intend to make it a building, you cannot accept deformation as in a mast or even a bridge. A building is much more rigid than a car or an airplane that has some elasticity. Only very tall buildings have to deal with some elasticity and that is a huge problem in the conception and in the realization. Fourth, you would need all that stuff you see and cannot see in building: staircases, elevators, emergency staircases, windows, separation walls (even if only for fire protection), plumbing, heating, climate control, wiring, false ceilings, etc etc. And of course: people. As for the wind, yes that would be nice. But that would be an awful way to multiply the outside surface of the building. And that would make the building very expenxive to build and to maintain: not environnementaly correct. But I have seen more outrageous ideas than that.
  19. "to think" is not enough. what one has to do is to ponder*. *cogitate. BTW who is that Bad Scientist who gave you a minus point? That is not a great "welcome".
  20. It is a language issue In French there are 2 kinds of shadow: "ombre propre" and "ombre portée". I don't know in English.
  21. My comment is not for your correlation (the smiley was obvious) but for the maps in general. Professionals involved in mapping know very well how data can be misrepresented in so many cases and how careful must one be in order to make an objective map. Not to say that "objective map" is something that may not exist since from the right beginning when you make a map you have the purpose to show something (to say something) IOW it is like an argumentation, not simply a data.
  22. Very good. but one has to keep in mind that those maps may be confusing. The data are collected by country and extended over the entire territory. For example the data from the U.S. are extended over Alaska that is mainly desert. the same goes for Russia, China, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, etc. When the data concerns vegetation that is fine, but when it goes about consumption of coffee it does not give an accurate description of what is going on.
  23. Welcome Maarten from Belgium. IMHO your views are mainstream, you wrote Yes that is pretty much what I have read from random informations about Relativity. i have even read that somewhere that an observer reaching a Black Hole would not feel anything strange happening to him. (I'll have to back this up) (1) Yes, that is Relativity. Yes, that is my understanding too. The rest of your interpretation about cosmology is not exactly mainstream but follows very logically from your premises. So i don't understand why people vote your posts negative. (1) erased since I saw that the issue is unresolved. See here.
  24. If I understand your point clearly, you are O.K. with space as an entity in which things exist, simply that those entities are in a state of motion.
  25. (emphasis mine) Yes. In the world we live in, one has to use a set of 4 coordinates in order to describe the situation of an object. i remain perplexed that Daniel accepts the 3 and refuses the 4th.
