  1. I don't think so. Give the resolution and construct the number, that's all. If you need resolution 10 decimals, the number will be like 112233. With hundreds decimals the number becomes like 111222333. At the end it is only a transcription problem on how to write down a number of arbitrary fine resolution.
  2. I don't know if behaviours are traits. for example having the right hand constantly raised with a gun is a behaviour, it is not a trait as evolution is concerned.
  3. You are underestimating your ennemy I' am afraid. I commited a strategic error. Michel, never post under religion again.
  4. Since it has not been selected (erased)yet then either it is a strong trait either it is not a trait at all, i.e. it is completely unconcerned to evolution.
  5. Yes that makes sense to me. (emphasis mine) Yes, that would be like assigning a number to each point of space. There are an infinity of points of space and there is an infinity of numbers, so that could be done, unless one of those infinities is bigger than the other one. Now that I am thinking a little more about it, it is like replacing a point of coordinates 1,2,3 with the number 123. Or am I wrong somewhere?
  6. There is no reason in evolution, there is randomness.
  7. religion is something that establishes a system that make many people believe in the same thing. Further, religion provides teachings and laws that make the same-believers have the same behaviour, this way creating a common way of life in a society. The wiki article states: Emile Durkheim is clearly correct. Belief is only a little part of religion, essential though when it comes to be the same for everybody (faith). I couldn't figure that the difference between religion and belief could escape a bright mind like yours.
  8. Religion is part of the society. In some cases religion is society. Anyone can believe in anything, independently, but that's not what is called religion. I am even convinced that God (or gods) are not the goal of religion but the mean to reach some other goals. Those goals are to settle down rules (dictated from above) that no one will contest (kill him) in order to solidly establish a kind of society (call that civilization). In that manner the Kings of France were crowned by bishops in the name of God, and Napoleon too. That's on of the roles of religion. I am pretty sure that nothing of that exist in pigeons.
  9. Right. I am sticking to the pigeon/chicken experiment with the words "superstition" and "religion". Religion is a societal phenomenon, it has rules (as stated above) and specifies very stongly the difference between people who belong to the society and people who don't. I don't think that pigeons are capable of such a development. But maybe yes the pigeons may be superstitious and do not walk under a ladder. That does not make them religious.
  10. I think you are confusing religion with belief.
  11. for equilibrium. I'd expect each thruster to act like a "foot" and you need 3 feet to achieve stability.
  12. "chicken can develop religion" ? Can you provide a link or something?
  13. So for those who don't want to lose the spoiler says: Putting on the weighing scale all together one weight of the first bag + 2 weights of the 2nd bag + 3 weights of the 3rd bag, etc,...+10 weights of the 10th bag.
  14. Two? I'd suggest to use three.
  15. You agree with what?
  16. So it seems that hedgehogs can learn. Is that evolution?
  17. If you open the spoiler you lose.
  18. I didn't. What's about the hedgehogs?
  19. Why is it different? The white dot on the left is moving like the yellow dot on the right. Rotate the right side 180degrees and explain me the difference
  20. The photoshopped ones.
  21. It may be that motion is simply the way the inhabitants of the Universe observe things. There exists the notion of the block universe that spreads in spacetime and in which nothing really happens. See eternalism from the link: It is sometimes referred to as the "block time" or "block universe" theory due to its description of space-time as an unchanging four-dimensional "block",[2] as opposed to the view of the world as a three-dimensional space modulated by the passage of time."
  22. --------------- Anyway, I would like to hear such stories more often. The Internet is a great instrument.
  23. Yes I know the age for scientific contribution from historical records is around 20-30. I think that 1. this bright mathematician has not being given a chance to develop his idea before, life does not seem to have been easy for him. 2. it is unlikely to make more than 1 contribution in your life, unless with the help of another (young) bright mind that wrote you a letter because all of a sudden you have become renowned. There are exceptions of course.
  24. The first 2 pictures do not show reinforced concrete. They show bearing block walls and metallic roof. I don't want to insist though. It is clearly visible that damages can't be avoided in any kind of conventional construction. It is just too destructive, the windows blow out anyway and the flying objects are too dangerous. Here below a link showing conventional building in Greece. Reinforced concrete. http://filon-kataskevastiki.com/serv03.htm#%CE%A3%CE%BA%CE%B5%CE%BB%CE%B5%CF%84%CF%8C%CF%82_%CE%BF%CE%B9%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%B4%CE%BF%CE%BC%CE%AE%CF%82_
  25. I think that before being known you are unknown.
