Because I have a parallel conversation with someone else out of the Forum, who has deep objections. the basic equation of velocity proportional to distance is V=kD where V velocity, D distance, k constant of proportionality. And here below 3 diagrams for k=1, k=2, k=3 As you can notice, the points are always horizontal. The difference in time=zero ==> it is not possible for a single object to have such a state of motion: velocity proportional to distance is impossible for a single object. .

So it is argued that piracy is the cause for "the loss of thousands of American jobs". I am not sure. My country is actually under high pressure to liberate what are called "closed professions", like lawyers, pharmacists, architects & engineers, all professions that work under corporatism. Corporatism is condamned as a scheme opposed to free economy. "Liberation" of "closed professions" and the entrance in free economy is supposed to offer more jobs and reduce costs. I don't understand how the professional protection of the media market (that's what's all about) will provide more jobs. One thing for sure, it will not reduce the cost. IMHO the goal is to increase the cost, the number of jobs is absolutely of no importance, it is an excuse.

There is a wrong idea of what a city is. In order to live, a city like Paris (about 10 million inhabitants) has an impact radius of more than hundred kilometers. Each day, thousand of tons of material are pumped into the city: it is energy from power plants outside, food for the 30 millions meals to be prepared every day, water and a lot of other stuff coming from ports, airports, by train, by highways. Similarly there is a huge movement in the reverse direction, waste, industrial production, etc. from the city to the outside. The idea of creating a bunch of buildings and putting people inside to work and live litteraly cutted off from the rest of the world, is a pure dream.

Since , it is circular reasoning.

Aargh, I am 500 years too late.I rediscovered Galileo! look here "Galileo's rejection of the possibility of velocity changing uniformly with respect to distance" http://www.jstor.org/pss/226890 and http://books.google.gr/books?id=IgYADjGcJcAC&pg=PA130&lpg=PA130&dq=it+seems+in+his+eyes+plausible+that+a+falling+body&source=bl&ots=w9z1Zyw4hp&sig=itlLRv_Q4jz7RQ3mClGkoBLMhcU&hl=el&sa=X&ei=aLAZT4KEF8acOpm9jaAL&sqi=2&ved=0CCoQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=it%20seems%20in%20his%20eyes%20plausible%20that%20a%20falling%20body&f=false --------------------- And the most interseting is this: If it is true that a single object cannot modify its state of motion in such a manner that velocity is proportional to distance, it means that Hubble's law is a demonstration that the objects were never in the same state of motion.

That is not what I expect from the meaning of the word "exactly". I thought the OP question was: why this number and not another? Why not 537,163,921 m/s or 56,842,489,667,535,578,975,422 m/s?

Why did the big beasties go away?
michel123456 replied to JohnB's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
You are right, something changed. -
peoleichia yes. (pe-o-lee-hee-aa) is the right word, from "peos" meaning "penis" and "leichia" meaning "licking". Pipa is one of the multiple words used to mean blow job. In French "pipe" (peep) is a smoking pipe, which means that frenchies (& I suppose all latins) & greek suck up where british blow. It is a noticeable cultural difference. Now in a single thread you have learned 4 words of modern greek absolutely indispensable for your next vacation on the islands.

In English, no. Insert πεολειχία in a translator.
-
And you don't want to know what PIPA (πίπα) means in modern Greek.

When Did Our Ancestors Lose Their Hair?
michel123456 replied to shawnhcorey's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
In relation to another thread: maybe evolution wanted to get rid of us. Maybe we lost our hair because we are degenerated beings, we should have died. Fortunately we were clever enough to wear the fur of other animals and later to use vegetation transforming it into textile. The other thread is about dinosaurs, maybe they lost their feathers and went extinct before getting intelligent. -
It shows also the fragility of the Internet. Just because the owner of Wikipedia is upset with some forth coming legislation, he shuts the site off. It's kind of reaction to "I will make you shut up", no you will not, I will shut up. It is well understood that the closing is a way to adertise opposition, and I suppose the goal has been reached. But it shows also how easily a Web empire can be shut down. I used to ramble on another Forum some years ago, till the day the entire site disappeared. Fortunately it appeared back a few months later, but it was a schock. That's all suspended by a string.* *do we say that in English?

Why wouldn't telepathy and telekinesis be possible?
michel123456 replied to searchingfortruth's topic in Physics
Interesting. Electrolocation. Looks similar to the way bats locate objects in the dark, but with electricity instead of sound waves. -
Yes that is correct. In cities too. Not exactly. It is a closed system with water circulating naturally through gravity, that's the reason why the ugly tank is above the solar panel. If you want the reservoir down you need a pump. The closed system is a pipe that circulates through the tank and the panel. The water is heated by the sun in the panel, then goes to the serpentine inside the tank, then back to the panel. The tank us thus a boiler where regular water (under pressure from the water company) gets heated by the serpentine and used for shower or kitchen tap. It is not used for heating the house. http://www.esru.strath.ac.uk/EandE/Web_sites/02-03/zero_emission_bldgs/descripsolarcollectors.htm That would be a similar system but not the same. Also IIRC distilled water is not so good for drinking, there is a lack of minerals.

Why wouldn't telepathy and telekinesis be possible?
michel123456 replied to searchingfortruth's topic in Physics
These organs exist, called "eyes". Other organs, like vocal cords and ears, are also suitable to transmit information through distance, not necessarily in salt water. ------------ Also, the nervous system inside your body is able to transmit signals. So one could imagine to link the brain with electromagnetic signals simply by using a finger typing on a keyboard of some sort connected to an electronic device that can send and receive information wireless. But this is not called telepathy, it is called Internet. -
There are ways to get clean without water. The most usual is to warm your body so that you sweat, then scratch the dirt (as in oriental hammams). Instead of scratching, one could imagine some other way, like sudden freezing that will close the skin abruptly and make the dirt fall away.(usually it is a plunge in cold water after a sauna). Sound does not sound a good idea, unless you want to provoke Parkinson.

Have a look at solar water cleaning or "solar water disinfection" tomorrow because today Wikipedia is closed... There are even some clever portable devices. Found this http://www.greendiary.com/entry/5-ingenious-water-purification-systems-developed-rural-world/ ----------------- There is also research about low cost desalination of sea water, like the following http://www.investingreece.gov.gr/newsletter/newsletter.asp?nid=613&id=642〈=1 --------------------- "to guide people how to conserve water" I think you will find in your ancient culture how to do that. -------------------- There is also a whole philosophy on avoiding wasting water and recycling. ------------------- Here an interesting historical review http://www.nesc.wvu.edu/old_website/ndwc/ndwc_dwh_1.html

That was not a joke, but that was funny (to me). There must be some greek fellow there behind, I don't believe in coincidence.

No Wikipedia in English tomorrow Wednesday. http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/16/2711870/wikipedia-sopa-pipa-protest-blackout-english-language

Why did the big beasties go away?
michel123456 replied to JohnB's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
I still cannot find any information about gigantism in vegetation at the same time with the dinosaurs. It would make some sense that if something in the atmosphere provoqued gigantism in animals the same effect would apply on plants too. -
I thought it was trickier because one can see only three sides of a cube at a time. (unless using mirrors)
-
This is not a description of celestial motion, it is a description of chaotic turbulence. It would be a peculiar example where the small (the solar system) is more regular than the large. Usually, the larger view may show some regularity.

Yes. The last diagram is "ONE shot of several idividual objects in their respective different phase". It says nothing about precedent phases. Worse: it is locked. I wanted to do something and I got something else. Very accurately, I don't understand anything of my own diagram...
