  1. As for finding life, I remember J. Lovelock with his Gaia hypothesis claiming that it suffices to examine the atmosphere of a planet in order to know whether there is life or not.
  2. Funny example, but I think there was indeed an interaction between me and your Greek colleages. The interaction happened in you. I felt nothing, the same as the Earth feels nothing. Your Greek colleagues felt nothing. But you felt something, and you answered in both directions. Sorry I am wasting your time and mine. I drop the case.
  3. That was a revendication of left wing parties and has been obtained in several countries.
  4. In your example, you are the object, not me. So you all mean that the forces do indeed "meet" at the object, but they do not interact. Is that it?
  5. You are correct. There is a gravitational force and a magnetic force separately acting on the globe. IOW the 2 forces act separately on the same object. What I conclude from that is that the 2 forces must have a common point (the object). One can put that into an equation where at some point F1=F2, where in this case the 2 forces point into opposite directions. I cannot see how that could happen if F1 was not interacting with F2. I guess it goes like this: the object is made up of mass, so gravitation takes place. At the same time the object is magnetic (or magnetized) and thus magnetism takes place too. The 2 forces meet in the object and act equally in opposite direction. But for the forces to meet, they must interact, no?
  6. I think they do. There are toys where magnetic force counteracts gravity. http://s7d2.scene7.com/is/image/NationalGeographic/73097?$product320x320$
  7. Mandatory service has also other implications. For example the first implication is a reduce of unemployment. And of course the reverse process for nations that want to cut mandatory service: cancelling mandatory service means an increase in underemployment. I don't know about general expenses what it means for a nation, but my guess is that mandatory service is an economic load. And I don't know about the efficacity of soldiers that have been engaged by force. I have been through that and I assure you that after university, going to the army is exactly the same as entering a prison.
  8. Sure. What I was trying to say is that when different forces of different nature do combine that must mean that the forces interact, and thus have "something" in common. If they had absolutely no common interaction well then they would not ...interact.
  9. the fact that some other force (your chair) can act against gravity should mean that there exist a relation between these 2 forces. I mean, you can sit on your chair because the bindings of your body are similar to the bindings of the chair in such a way that you are not "transparent" to the chair. The action-reaction takes place, triggered by gravity. However, gravity is also "transparent" to you. I mean, you are not an obstacle (a shield) to gravity. You are influenced by gravity. I mean gravity exerts a force on your body. So there must exist some link between the bindings of your own body and gravity, but this link does not influence gravity on its action on other objects (it is transparent)
  10. You win wathever I do now Anyway I play this | | |
  11. | | | | | | ------------------ A A
  12. | | | | | | | | | | | | | My turn, I removed row 1 ---------- edit, in my analysis, I am player A because I am the first to have removed a row. You are player B
  13. I mean it doesn't matter how many rounds it will take for a player to take the last stick of some row. For example, I play first and take 1 stick of row 4 then you take also 1 stick of row 4 then again me 1 stick of row 4 then you one stick of row 4 (3 sticks remaining) then me taking the last 3 sticks. After all these rounds, the result is that I have ended row 4. what i say is that the same result would have happened if I took all the sticks of raw 4 in the first place. And the chronological order doesn't matter either. All the above could have happened in between other phases of the game. What matters in the end is who takes the last raw. and thus who takes the before-last.
  14. there is an even number of sticks (16) there is an even number of rows (4) there is an odd number of sticks in each row(1,3,5,7) . ... ..... ....... For two players A & B, it doesn't matter which sequence is followed: maybe row 3 is ended first and row 1 is the last. or the reverse or no matter. In any sequence, a "logical" ending sequence of the rows is Player A takes the first row (it can be row 4, or 2, or 3, or 1, no matter), by definition the player who takes the "first" row is called player A. Player B takes the second row Player A the third Player B the fourth and loses I mean the "logical" sequence is A B A B, with player A being the one who takes the "first" row in sequence For player B to win the sequence must become A B B A, or A B A A, or A A B A, or A A A A I hope I made no mistake in the above, so that the game can be analyzed more profoundly.
  15. Hi Commander Yes we are in good terms. And I didn't notice the increase in my rep points. Don't put too much importance in it.
  16. Maybe the disagreement between the OP & Swansont is about the use of the word "motion". If I understand clearly for Swansont "motion" is a phenomenon described by the laws of Newton. Could be called "Newtonian Motion". While the OP describes "motion" as any change of position in space. Maybe should the OP use the word "displacement", or any other better suited instead of "motion".
  17. Dear viking, do you realize who you are talking to?
  18. I am afraid that was not the question.
  19. I find it quite funny that you have so many neg points and you haven't been banned. It is an achievement! Better laugh about it than cry. it means that on the average your POV is not accepted, is badly considered, while at the same time your behavior is in line with the Forum rules. Really it is a difficult task that very few can achieve. And after saying that, i wonder if it is better to give you a plus (that will reduce your achievement) or a minus. --------------------- I just had a look at your rep. IIRC you had about -80 the other day, and now only -49. A miracle is happening!
  20. +1 to everybody for the interesting discussion.
  21. Thank you for your kind reply. +1
  22. Sure 1700 earthquake, my mistake after reading the Juan de Fuca history. You can zoom in, there is a slider on the bottom left. It is in english.
  23. I learned 2 things today! I had no idea about the Cascadia and I learned at last who was Giannis Phokas. --------------- And for those interested, he is a witness of the coast before the 1600 earthquake. page 21 of the electronic book, page 161 of the original document. http://issuu.com/kefalonitikanea/docs/hutchings_40/21?e=1540338/3136700
  24. Sorry Commander I have better things to do. I came here on this thread as a tourist.
  25. My impression is that the one who begins always wins. Unless commiting suicide in the last 3 moves.
