  1. I couldn't resist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFAWR6hzZek
  2. Yes. I find also very coincidental that the apparent diameter of the Moon is equal to the apparent diameter of the Sun, which fact allows a total sun eclipse to occur. I don't know what that means though.
  3. The issue arises already with emails. There is no written correspondence anymore, and many people discard their email very quickly. I struggle to keep my emails from the last years, which sounds bogus to some of my friends but I really find that important. Also all the history of this Forum will be lost some day. (emphasizing mine) I disagree. There is nothing more volatile than electronic information. You can lose it with a click. Or with an upgrade.
  4. Maybe I'll be wrong on this but i think if you turn upside down the left eye and upside down the right eye, the resulting image in the brain (which is an overlap of the 2 eyes) will be wrong. What you have to do IMHO is to take the upside down image from the left eye and send it to the right eye, and reversely take the upside down image from the right eye and send it to the left eye. IOW you must make a rotation 180 degrees.
  5. Well, I have come to the conclusion that for suceeding in your studies, the goal, the only goal is to pass the examens, it is NOT to understand the cursus. There are plenty of poor students who pay heavily the price before understanding the difference between the two concepts. Not always. I know people who are excellent at being boring. And the OP din't said that he was bored by everything. It looks to me that he is excited about physics but that he is disappointed not getting the same excitement from his teachers.
  6. I don't know education in India. I can talk about education I was following and the system followed by my daughter today. The goal of the educational system is not to turn you into an educated person. The goal is to put barriers in such a way that only the best will survive. If your teachers are boring, that is because their cursus is there only to select, not to make an entire class succeed. From time to time you may find in the media some teacher from a forgotten school in a forgotten village whose entire class suceeds at difficult examens. This teacher is not aware that his job is not to teach but to select. IOW if you want to survive, learn about darwinism because you are actually living in the jungle* and you may become very soon a victim of the system. *jungle=highschool
  7. First of all Spacetime is 4D, not 3D. Secondly, distance is not only "the void between two objects" Distance has a lot of "strange" properties. For example take a lever and use the distance to transform the applied force. Take a balance and use the distance to make the balance shift on one or the other side, changing only and only the distance. Take a clock and use it to define distance. Use distance to look in the past. My thoughts about distance are oriented in various directions. Also if you want to change the distance beween 2 objects at rest relative to each other: you need a force to do that. Isn't that mind blowing? Also: you change the distance between 2 objects and the gravity between those 2 objects changes, isn't that fantastic? And not only that, gravity doesn't change in relation to the distance, but respectively to the square of the distance. That is absolutely incomprehensible: what is a distance squared? When we don't even know what a distance clearly "is".
  8. And you like symmetry. Welcome David
  9. A young and an old pirate discuss at the bar. The young says: _"I'd like to hear from your experience, how did you lose your leg", showing the wooden leg of the old pirate. _It was on a day after a terrible fight with a Spanish battleship. Our vessel took fire, I jumped in the sea and a shark ate my leg. _"and what about your hand?" showing the silver hook at the place of the old pirate's hand _It happened on a day during a battle against 3 French battleships. A cannonball cut off my right hand. _"and what about your eye?" showing the black eye patch of the old pirate. -It was on this day when I looked above at our flag and a seagull dropped his thing into my eye. _But that is not enough to make you lose your eye! _well it was the first day after the doctor put the hook.on my arm.
  10. That reminds me Hawking and the party that will take place in 2009. http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/space/stories/stephen-hawking-invites-you-to-a-party-for-time-travelers-that-may-have
  11. That is not the right question. Yes. The right question is: What is distance?
  12. (emphasizing mine) I am not sure. Maybe there are studies on that subject. I know that a lot of "waiste" is used one way or another, either for food for animals or for fertilizing. In a farm nothing is thrown away, I guess that it's the same in industrial farming. What I understand by the word "biofuel" is a kind of production especially designed and matured for fuel.
  13. There is an issue with biofuels. You will use ground surface for cultivating biofuel instead of cultivating cereals for food. Biofuels mean an increase in cultivated areas, which is not good for the environment and a decrease in food production because biofuel will mean more money. The price for food will increase (hint: invest in food actions). The poor countries will be unable to get food at an affordable price. That means more hunger in the world.
  14. It is not the only one. I found this: http://curezone.com/ig///i.asp?i=50240 Unexplained.
  15. You are never sure. The little guy could have been in a recessed area. Recessed about 30 cm (1 head high=~1 foot). Or it could have been that both the photographer and the portrait were taller than the little guy, about 30 cm taller. Also maybe the photographer was a short guy standing on a chair photographing a tall person. Or the photographer was keeping his camera above his head. Everything is possible.
  16. Sir Archibald sits near the fireplace, looks a lady Anna, his wife, and whispers: "My lady, tonight I want to do it like dogs". _O Archibald! Schocking! Please don't drink so much sherry and calm down. The next evening, Sir Archibald again: "tonight I want to do it like dogs" _Schocking Archibald! Don't you think about anything else. Never speak like that again, I beg you! After a few days: "I want to do it like dogs" _No, no, no! That is not under question. But I want to do it like dogs! Ok, Ok, if that pleases you so much. But promise me we'll go on a street where nobody knows us.
  17. I was looking at this very bad picture from another thread on this Forum. 1 Anyone should know some basic principle of perspective: when a photographer takes a picture horizontally from eye level, the eyes of a person standing upright are approximativaly at horizon level, as shown in the following picture. The rule does not count for the guy in the background: it is a strong indication that it is bad photoshop. 2 If the ground is horizontal all around, all other person standing upright must have his eyes at horizon level, no matter the distance from the photographer. That is because the horizon itself is a line at eye level, by definition. So, if the ground is at the same level all around, the picture should look like the one below. 3 It happens less in new pictures because most are not taken from eye level anymore. But I found this one below where the phenomena appears roughly. 4 FYI.
  18. Hi "metaphysic jew", Hi others Look back at this thread: not even one neg. point to Michel. People argue they have the right to shut me up but they don't. ... Maybe I am wrong and this Forum is not so bad after all.
  19. And you feel OK with that? Are you proud that Human Rights have not been gained by the entire humanity on planet Earth? I know that. There is no freedom of speech in business. There is no freedom of speech at the place you work. There is no freedom of speech in a theater, in a classroom and in many other places. And I ask you: where do you have freedom of speech? Under the water of your bathtub? It is as if anyone says "freedom of speech somewhere else" because it is impossible to bear. So one evil made the thought of abolishing a human right and you think it's ok. A good guy created the Internet so that everybody can freely communicate and some other guy immediately created a rule that says otherwise. Please take the point that this Forum, as many others, is ONLY about discussion. I guess if it were about anything else the rules would have abolished other H.R. as well. I'll stop here.
  20. In time of war ethics are somehow changed. It becomes ethical to kill someone you never met in your life because he wears another uniform, for example. Anyway, if the Nazis knock your door, you are screwed. I am afraid very few can talk about this experience.
  21. Freedom of speech is a human right, correct? So when you enter a classroom, a church, an army, a house, an Internet Forum, you immediately lose one of your Human Rights. That is what I understand from the System of our society as it works. I recognize that is the way things are but I am not O.K. with that. In general I consider the Human Rights as a minimum and I am not O.K. when the minimum is diminished. Otherwise one has to tell me where are the Human Rights applicable? In the street? On the beach? On the Moon? Somewhere else?
  22. Ancient greek masks have an open mouth.
  23. They look as if they were in the military, yes. I agree with arc, the sentence is bizarre. Or is an entire paragraph missing? This is a very old discussion. After some time here, what I realize is that the problem is not the absence of freedom of speech, the problem is that most people here are proud of it instead of being ashamed.
