In related news, this guy is probably curled up in a fetal position softly weeping himself to sleep. "SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - A San Jose State University professor who announced just weeks ago that he and a colleague had solved an important math problem now says he goofed. Daniel Goldston had worked on the problem for 20 years."

It depends on what level you're looking for. How much math do you know? I can't understand a lot of the math behind the physics, so I generally rely on more casual reading physics book that explain it to the "casual" scientist. Off hand I don't know any books that go into great detail about all of it. I'll look through some of mine and see if they discuss it at all.

PLANET X! Can't astronomers do some calculations and figure out if there is another planet pulling out there? Also, does anyone know the size a "rock" must be to be considered a planet..

Yes, they could. Fortunately this site is often crawled through by a bot that helps teachers detect plagarism from the web. Profit? I doubt it. Anyone who is in the position to make a profit with ideas is likely far beyond the stage of plagarism. I hope

I have the same book. Its OK, but it goes kinda fast. Do you have any programming background?

The true scope of Natural Selection
blike replied to Zeo's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
I think he just worded that bad. The product of natural selection is always more "adapt" organisms(for lack of better word ATM), but in the process many organisms get the boot. Natural selection can often lead to the extinction of a species, but the remaining living species (if any) are always more fit. -
Thanks, yea, I knew they were links, but I hadn't checked them out yet.

How do you play music in a Visual Basic 4.0 Program
blike replied to apollo2011's topic in Computer Science
Visual Basic 4.0 Welcome to the 90s!! (this goes in a module) Option Explicit Public Declare Function sndPlaySound Lib "winmm.dll" Alias _ "sndPlaySoundA" (ByVal lpszSoundName As String, _ ByVal uFlags As Long) As Long Const SND_SYNC = &H0 Const SND_ASYNC = &H1 Const SND_NODEFAULT = &H2 Const SND_LOOP = &H8 Const SND_NOSTOP = &H10 'then, when you want to play a wav Dim sFlags As Long sFlags = SND_ASYNC Or SND_NODEFAULT sndPlaySound "FileName.Wav", sFlags from here -
Ah, I was just going by what SciAm called it. They were probably oversimplifying things for the general reader.

Problems with the HP psc 750 print-scanner-copier
blike replied to apollo2011's topic in Computer Science
Odd, first check your settings in word (make sure you havn't specified to print 36 pages). I'm sure you've already looked at that. Try reinstalling the printer with the drivers the manufacturer provides. Have you checked device manager for hardware conflicts? -
What happens when a machine fits all the criteria for life? "(Ingestion, excretion, respiration, growth and reproduction)." A machine could be built to perform all those functions, but when do we call it alive? What is the line that seperates living things from nonliving things? (but yes, sentient would have been better suited)

LOL thanks for pointing that out, that was a bad typo..

I've heard a lot of debate recently about the validity of using redshift to determine distance of an object. Do any of you know a lot about this subject? Apparently there are some quasars out there that are emitting matter at superluminous speeds which leads some to believe that measuring their distance via redshift is leading to grossly overestimated distances... "Animation of a series of radio images of 3C 345 at 10.7 GHz over the span of 5 years, if the object was really extragalactic at 1700 MegaParsecs as most cosmologists claim, its jets would be exceeding 7 times the speed of light ! Sorry, I wasn't very clear. He is important to find. But people often ask it in such a manner as to suggest that because he is not in our posession, the war on terror is ineffective and/or failing when clearly the government stated from the start of this war that although it was a something they would very much like, it wasn't the goal of the war. Perfect Example: The difference here: it's over. it was a walk in the park. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well it seems like there having trouble finding Saddam. And what ever happened in the search for Bin Laden? Finding Saddam has little to nothing to do with the efficiency of the war, but it was brought up in anyways. And what does Bin Laden have to do with this?

Why doesn't this affect the heart as well?

Tell me about it. I couldn't seem to find the floor last time I woke up from GA. I remember walking bent over with my hands feeling for the ground all the way out ot the car. Actually, I don't think I was intubated, so there probably wasn't a muscle relaxant. I was only getting my molars removed.

I got a 404 last night as well, but it seems to be up and running now. Geology isn't really my thing but it looks good and pretty informative. Looks like you put a lot of effort into writing the tutorials! Good stuff!
