  1. It appears LaTex is down again.
  2. I'll be there on opening night
  3. When you're in high school, they ridicule you. When you're in college, they come to you in their time of academic need. When you're settling into your career, they fetch you coffee in the morning and change your trashbin. Life has its funny little ways of ensuring people reap what they sow. Nonetheless, embrace who you are. I know it's hard in high school because you're often pressured to be someone you're not. In the end, you'll only find happiness in being yourself.
  4. So you're saying you get a surplus of energy?
  5. I completely agree, but don't forget that I live in the land where personal responsibility means absolutely nothing.
  6. It's happened to me before. Several students complained to the department. Luckily, I had skimmed over the material.
  7. I'll be adding tons more games over the next few days
  8. I would assume he picked lead because it blocks most electromagnetic radiation (i.e. photons), even x-rays. Also, what does your idea have to say about general relativity? Was Einstein's model wrong?
  9. In other words, it's crap crap crap. Don't believe a word he says.
  10. Hi albert. I'm the one that deleted your post, and I did so because I assumed you were referring to the negative connotation of the word "hacker", more properly "cracker". I apologize for my confusion.
  11. If the technology was available, would you support designer babies? Why or why not?
  12. Nope. If natural selection had weeded out most disease and sickness, there never would have been a need for modern medicine.
  13. True. I don't think our primary concern should be safety, and I don't mean that as it sounds. Of course we should be concerned with the safety of these people, but space travel is inherently dangerous, at least at this point. Think of the early astronauts and the failure rate among those vehicles. If we applied today's safety standards to those times no rocket would ever be launched from US soil.
  14. Just as a heads up for all you chemists, you can now use the ce tag to generate chemistry LaTeX. For example: [ce]H2O[/ce] Will generate [ce]H2O[/ce].
  15. Space.com is reporting that engineers found a small crack in the foam insulation covering the shuttle's external fuel tank. The crack is not expected to be a safety concern, though it delayed the shuttle rollout for a few hours. The space shuttle Discovery began its 4.2 mile journey to the launch pad today. It is scheduled to launch sometime in mid-May.
  16. Nature is running a story about a physicist who claims that black holes do not exist. George Chapline, of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, says that he believes the collapse of stars does not lead to black holes. Instead, the space time contained within the star becomes filled with dark energy, which causes intruiging gravitational effects. "If the dark-energy star is big enough, Chapline predicts, any electrons bounced out will have been converted to positrons, which then annihilate other electrons in a burst of high-energy radiation. Chapline says that this could explain the radiation observed from the centre of our galaxy, previously interpreted as the signature of a huge black hole."
  17. [math]\ce{H2 + O2 -> H2O + Energy}[/math]
  18. Sorry jdurg. I didn't edit anything in there. My computer displayed an error and so I clicked "edit post" to see what was up.
  19. It will probably be awhile. But here's the initial release: Schweitzer M. H., Wittmeyer J. L., Horner J. R. & Toporski J. K. et al. Science,307. 1952 - 1955 (2005). | Article | PubMed | ChemPort |

    Schiavo case

There is. Allowing someone to die is the same thing as never starting treatment in the first place. Killing someone is forcing the body to die by means of direct intervention.
  22. There's nothing you can do but sit tight and keep your head up. It's not bad news until it's bad news. Our thoughts are with you!
  23. Like we actually talk about science in the chat room. PPPFFFTTT.

    Schiavo case

It appears Terri Schiavo has died. I don't have a link yet, but it's on the news tickers on TV. RIP Terri Edit: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,152015,00.html
  25. I can't figure it out. I've tried. Maybe I should have someone else take a look.
