  1. This is a good topic, it could have gone under general science..

    bling bling?

atinymonkey has it. the bling accompanied a sparkle. Diamonds and gold both sparkle, so it came to be known as bling. It seems that in american culture, most of our "ghetto" terms become famous after they're used in a rap song. I remember when the song "bling bling" came out. "Everytime I come around the city, bling bling". I had never heard bling bling before that. After, it exploded, everyone said it.
  6. Well, what do you mean by folded? Our universe has space-time bends. I don't know of any "folds" per-say, but I'm sure many would agree that space-time is curved and bent sharply around blackholes.

  11. take a look at some of the links above. they explain the effect quite well.
  12. indeed, the japanese are steering their probe clear of the moon.
  13. No, not all bodies are. It depends on how long they've been in orbit. Eventually, the earth will orient toward the sun (assuming its around long enough).
  14. apparently its making the rounds via email
  15. hehe check this thread http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1800&highlight=cambridge
  16. The moon has tides too. The term "tidally locked" is commonly used for a body that has the same rotation as its orbital period. Apparently, many bodies in the solar system are "tidally locked". See: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/astronomy/faq/part5/section-20.html Eventually, both the earth and the moon will be "tidally locked", and the moon will be locked in one position in the sky. As to the original question, I will see if I can find something for you on google.
  17. Its an interesting experience, especially if you have your sound jacked way up. It has a lot of classical music, and some pink-floyd like sounds. However, scenes are very long and drawn out, without much dialog and action. For instance, there is a 3 minute scene of someone in a spacesuit maneuvering toward an antenna. I enjoyed it very much though, but as sayo said. Once every decade is enough Gene: Humans personally have never been to mars. We've sent rovers and such. We've been on the moon, but thats it.

lol so i don't have an index page up at the moment ;P At least I don't have word of the month, or have news items: "Tonight I came up with a great idea for a page... a list of bizarre fears that have appeared in our society. " The funniest part of the page? HE MADE A BIG DEAL ABOUT "LEAVING" THE AOL SCENE. HE EVEN WROTE A FAREWELL ADDRESS Its a bit ironic that on his farewell address I was on his "shitlist".

  21. Japan has been forced to abandon its first ever interplanetary space mission after failing to correct an onboard electrical fault with its Mars probe Nozomi. Nozomi was scheduled to arrive in orbit around Mars in late December 2003 but will now be manoeuvred away from its target. This is to prevent it from crashing into the planet's surface and potentially contaminating it with Earth microbes. Scientists hope to find evidence that Mars once harboured life, or perhaps even that it still does. The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced on Tuesday that it had been unable to correct a short circuit aboard Nozomi and would have to forsake its Mars mission. Full Article Here
