  1. When light enters your eye, it hits photoreceptors called rod and cone cells on your retina which contain light sensitive pigments (rhodopsin and iodopsin) that break down when exposed to light. When this happens it create an impulse to the sensory areas of the brain allowing you to see. When you press on your eyeball, the pressure has basically the same effect as light and breaks down the pigment to send impulses to the brain as if it were light.
  2. The other day I managed to salvage about 4-5 kilos of magnsium sulphate that was going to be thrown out. Anyway i'm at a complete loss as to what to do with them and I need some ideas. My only idea was to use them as a drying agents but i'm sure there is something more interesting I can do. Any ideas?
  3. It must be the gameboy like sound, for me it always reminds me of playing super mario when I was younger.
  4. I guess i'm only speculating as I don't know what its like, but I would imagine with social anxiety you could differentiate between the situations that cause anxiety and those that don't. Anyway regardless I still think talking to someone would be the first step in helping the problem. Personally at times I can be quite introverted with emotions etc and I have had problems in the past which I think escallated due to me keeping them to myself and constantly dwelling on them. However even though I still hate what I see as 'burdening people with my problems' I still make myself talk to people about whats bothering me as it always seems to help.

  10. so essentaily is it again a redox reaction that takes place except the regents are in the gas phase or do these decomposition products in turn react with the orginal reagents?
  11. That is really interesting stuff. Do you know of any examples of this as I would have expected the gases to be released from the decomposition of the reactants to be vanishingly small, even with impact. So primarily what kind of gases would be responsible for this reaction in something like a potassium chlorate, sulphur and aluminium mix?

    habits?

I'm also on the verge of being an exercise addict as I find myself a bit irratable and lack concentration if I dont go on my daily bike ride. But I've heard of people who are so addicted to the endorphine enduced rush they get from exercise, it literally takes over thier life and find themselves with opiate like withdrawal symtoms if they don't exercise everyday. So i guess there aren't any addicitions you can call 'positive addictions'
  13. Thanks great help. One more thing though, does this also account for the increased sensitivity of impact sensitive compunds i.e. flash powders with the addition of sulphur?
  14. aha thanks, so for example in black powder, the sulphur will be oxidised first generating the heat for the KNO3 + C reaction to take place?
  15. I understand the reason why sulphur is used in so many fireworks, flash powders etc is because it increases sensitivity and lowers activation energy to make essentially easier to light mixtures, but why is this? Does the sulphur act as a reductant or is it the sulphur compounds formed that give rise to this effect?

    Steroids

As a child I used to suffer from eczema really badly to the extent to which it would be all up my legs and arms and keep me up at night becasue of the itching. My parents who are a bit mad on 'alternative' medicine convinced me to use a herbal based cream which actually worked extremely well and would clear it up in a few weeks. I havn't had bad eczema for years but unfortunately I am starting to get it again, which is probably due to the recent unseasonable warmth in Bath which usually trigger it. Anyway I will try and find this herbal cream again and see if it works like I remebered it to and if so i'll give you name of it if your interested.

    Hey

Surely this should be made a sticky to make an example of what not to post on SFN.
