Right now I'm in my school trying to measure the rate of reaction of propanone and iodine... I've added sulphuric acid as a catalyst and even though I'm waiting patiently for something to happen the colorimeter keeps recording the same absorbance... (I've been running my first experiment with no success for 45 minutes already..) I have to do 5 different experiments varying the molarity of iodine and propanone like this: iodine propane 0.01 0.01 0.01 0.02 0.01 0.03 0.02 0.01 0.03 0.01 Am I waiting in vain? what do I have to do to get a measurable rate for this reaction?

Hm sorry for the confusion JustStuit, I haven't taken the time to learn to use latex but oh well.. I think the answer's like this but I could be wrong: I'll write the second derivative as d2y/dx2... siny+cosy=x cosy(dy/dx)-siny(dy/dx)=1 dy/dx = 17(cosy-siny) = (cosy-siny)^-1 d2y/dx2= (-1(cosy-siny)^-2) * (-siny(dy/dx) - cosy(dy/dx) d2y/dx2= (siny+cosy)/(cosy-siny)^3 (cosy+siny)^2 = (siny)^2 + (cosy)^2 + 2cosysiny = 1 + 2cosysiny x^2 - 1 = 2cosysiny (cosy-siny)^2=1-2cosysiny cosy-siny= (1-((x^2)-1)^1/2) = (2-x^2)^1/2 so now x/((2-x^2)^1/2)^3 = x/((2-x^2)^3/2) Is this right?

I've been trying to work out this problem but I can't do it! It says: Find (d squared y)/(dx squared) as a function of x if sin y + cos y =x I try: cosy(dy/dx) - siny(dy/dx)=1 (dy/dx)(cosy-siny)=1 dy/dx=1/(cosy-siny) well after that I've tried many things but none of them appear to work... so... could anybody help me please!! thank you very much!

Strep Throat and the Clinics from Hell: I'm at my wit's end.
clarisse replied to alt_f13's topic in Medical Science
alt_f13: If I were you I would seriously reconsider going to the doctor again... yes yes I know you've had the bad luck to encounter incompetent doctors but you can always soo them for negligence later... but I seriously think you lose more by not going than by going... I've had pretty nasty ear infections too and I know how painful they are... The doctor had to take all the horible stuff with a needle and it hurt like f..k but it was well worth it since I could at least drift in and out of sleep... But yeah the point is go and see another doctor before it becomes worst... and if you don't like the olive oil idea you could at least warm up a little water and use it to rins your ear carefully... -
Hi! I currently go to an IB school here in Mexico (well actually I've been there allll my life, since I was 4 ofcourse) and a friend and I were discussing the possibility that before going to college we wanted to know how it felt to be the new student and try to embrace a new culture and learn to adapt to a new environment because otherwise we fear feeling lost and lonely once in college. So the question is if anybody here could recommend me an IB school (not in Mexico obviously) that I could contact to see if my friend and me could go study for a semester next year... thanks!

What I know is that stained glass is made by mixing glass with coloured compounds such as transition element salts which are usually coloured. Since this is done when the glass is molten and then allowed to cool down to set I don’t think it would be feasible to change the % tinting. You can read more about stained glass here

The solution would evidently be not to leave the toilet paper in the bowl but throw it away in the garbage...

You could investigate the effect of different flame retardant chemicals on different types of clothing material. You could use old tee shirts and pants with say different percentage composition of cotton. Some flame retardants include borax, boric acid, etc... its an easy experiment to do and if you enjoy burning things then you won't get bored... the only probem might be to get different flame retardants

hm no but I suppose I have to give the general solution as a matter of fact i have the answer... just i dont think the reasoning is right because I tend to make up some impossible maths sometimes... I tell you, I get lost pretty quickly just after the differentiation

Hm (I know excuses, escuses but...) partly because it was my first day back to school and because I have a strong headache I just dont seem to understand what I'm suppose to be doing so I would appreciate if someone could just clarify it for me: the qu. says: Find the values of (thetha which i'll change to X) for which the following functions have a. max. values b. minimum values 2 sinX+cosX I differentiate first right? and then should i just solve for 2 cosX-sinX=0?

the difference between elements and compounds is that an element cannot be split up into simpler substances by chemical means because it only contains one type of atom, whilst a compund is formed by different elements chemically bonding together. if a substance contains different types of particles that haven't chemically bonded and can be separated by physical meant, then it is a mixture. so H2O is a compound and yes all the things you mentioned (trees, mud, grass...) are made of elements

Why can't you remember being born?
clarisse replied to bascule's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
I think this is my earliest, clear memory: It was dinner time and my parents came into the room where my brother and I were, turned on the light and my mom took my brother in her arms, my dad turned the light off and the three of them went downstairs. And I remember that I thought that I didn't want to be left alone and that I was hungry too so I started crying and my mom came back and carried me downstairs. however when i told my mom about it she was very surprised because i detailed her my crib and I recall perfectly that it wasnt very high above the ground and that it had an orange pattern on the edges and we stopped sharing rooms before my brother was three years old so we calculate that i should have been at least a year and a few months old if not younger... but what seems strange to me is all the mental processing I had to do... I understood perfectly that my parents were going down to the kitchen to eat and I remember that I knew that if I cried they would probably take me too... so sometimes ive wondered if its a real memory or if my brain has reconstructed a simple visual memory... -
yeah just checked and theydo have a forum tho nothing on the subject and in the main site they don't either so I just posted my question and I guess I'll just have to wait. Hm even if you don't know what "Ligeia" means is it a common name somewhere?
-
Hm I had already consulted the Oracle and it failed me so that's why I posted ... but thanks anyway!

Je je you're welcome bascule...

Well I meant Jungian Synchronicity

hope this helps... otherwise... no idea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arithmetic_series#Product

I propose Dr. Ranulfo Romo and Victor de la Fuente of the Institute of Cellular Physiology of the UNAM (mex) because their results may have very important consequences for the treatment of neurodegenerative illnesses and in the studies of AI http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=33281

Jung would call it the collective unconscious...

Uhm, I have to prepare an oral presentation on Ligeia by Edgar Allan Poe and I've been investigating if "Ligeia" means something in particular but I can't find anything so I was wondering if anybody here knew. Thanks!

(I'm not sure if I understood correctly your question but...) the gradient gives you the rate of the reaction
