My guess is a server-client system. the computerside program would take the text you inputted and send it to the phone. the phoneside program would read the text and send it to the SMS apis In other words: sorry, I know nothing about this. but here's some irrelevent advice that may be relevant.
  2. It'd problably be best to check what the official immigration requirements are. For a long time the system has put an emphasis on skilled labour and such, but it can be a bit tricky if you don't fully understand the system. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.asp
  3. AS most of us know the majority of known matter is comprised of neutrons, electrons, and protrons which are arranged into atoms, which are then usually arranged into molecules. Using nuclear fusion we can smash atoms into each other to create even bigger atoms. Because atoms are comprised mostly of the empty space between the nucleus and the orbiting electrons, a single atom with the same mass of many atoms will always be smaller, because with all of the newer atoms the empty space adds up. Now say when a star explodes, the atoms at the core collape into each other to creat a single super-massive atom with the same mass as the individual atoms that it was originally made up of. if this single atom has a large enough mass it could pull nearby matter to it and then with sheer gravitation force rip the matter down into it's individual subatomic particles, increasing the mass of this atom. That is my theory of a black hole and I'm sticking with it.

  6. just another note; there is some research being done in making carbon-based microprocessors, so full silicone brains may never happen. I agree that over time one would just end up with an artificial brain and maybe the same personality/memories. although once the personality becomes more artificial it would no longer have to deal with the limitations with the biological brain, and so it may evolve in ways not understood. there's a book that would be relevant to this change, but i'm having a hard time recalling the title (something that the evolution is easily guessed) Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedFound it: The Terminal Experiment by Robert J Sawyer.

Are there any alternatives to Autodesk inventor, a mechanical CAD program that is capable of simulating the stresses applied to the object (maybe fluid dynamics and combustion simulation, but I'm not holding my breath)? Because Autodesk inventor seems like a good program, but I want to see if there are any other programs that will compare, possibly Macintosh compatible. thanks.
  8. slippage? how so? if it is composed of say eight segments, possibly with fixed directions of currents, each segment can have its power and direction controlled independently by a computer in order to balance, maintain height, and control speed. possibly the car would rest on either spaceship-like landing pads or just by dropping to conserve energy when not moving.

  14. Another reason to drive manual IMO. On a really cold day one year my old Mazda truck (a TRUE Mazda truck, not a Ford-based shame) was stuck at a very high idle. Still drove perfectly fine and the accelerator cable unstuck after a few kilometers.
  15. It'd be so much easier to just slingshot around a star or other large mass. heck, slingshot around a black hole and you problably could go lightspeed. tho a small speck would destroy the ship and everything will appear distorted.

Imagine this: a car that for each wheel has a round thing a bit larger than drum brakes. inside these things are really strong magnets that basically each control a 6" thick ring the diameter of a regular tire. by use of repulsion-attraction fields the magnets try to centre themselves inside the rings (and pull the car up off the ground) and they rotate the rings (to move the car). this would allow for a very smooth ride, and theoretically the tire rings can be removed and the car can hover on top of a magnetic track if needed. the significant problem would be that a lot of power would be needed to just hover the vehicle, but that could be fixed by using an onboard generator (like the Chevrolet Volt), or another system that would just swap in. thoughts?

Right now some scientists are running simulations of different aspects of the universe on nether computers, whether cells, weather systems, planetary movement, you name it. the biggest limitation in creating a complete simulation of a small-scale universe is processing power. so theoretically if we had infinite (or "just enough" processing power to simulate a universe, we probably could. We could simulate sentient beings that would go through their lives without realizing that they were only ones and zeros in a massive computer. following that, it is possible that we are just a simulation inside a super-massive (or infinite) computer. And if the programming was sound enough we would never realize this, or any glitches that do come up will be seen as a phenomena that has not yet been fully explained. thoughts?

  24. let's assume that either dark matter or something like that existed, and that it repels the matter that we are made up of (think opposite of magnets: instead of North repels North/South attracts north, matter attracts matter and antimatter repels matter) assuming that we could obtain antimatter could we possibly stuff an amount of antimatter into a ship or something that is equal to the mass of the ship and it's contents, therefore making it have a total mass that is negligible? that would mean that this ship would be able to leave the earth's gravitational field with only air resistance. however, the antimatter would also repel the ship and it's cargo, either making the cargo almost weightless if it was placed below the ship, but doubling the weight of the cargo if the antimatter was placed on top of the ship. most likely the antimatter would have to be situated on the topside of the ship otherwise the ship would have a strong tendency to flip upside-down. a plus of the antimatter on top is that when the ship is in space the antimatter would act as a passive artificial gravity field. thoughts?
