Guys, I was looking at boiling point and melting points of the following and got this info from wikipedia. Gas / Boiling Point (oC) / Melting Point (oC) Nitrogen / -195.79 / -210 Oxygen /-182.95 / -218.79 Argon / -185.85 / -189.35 Carbon Dioxide / -78 / -57 What I don’t understand is, why is the melting point of CO2 is higher than the boiling point! Bit confused! Can you help?

Thank you for your responses. Now I understand but I am puzzled to why it’s not genetically modified if you take genes away. It’s still modification I think. If you take one wheel away from a tricycle, it becomes a bicycle! This could be a bad example but I am using it to illustrate what I am trying to say…

According to what I have read on this thread, it seems like biofuels somehow have a direct link with food demand and shortage. This is true for first generation biofuel. I have however read on the paper about second generation biofuel which uses all the parts of the plant to produce biofuel. It seems the technology is not proven. Has anyone heard of this second generation biofuels?

Just to conclude this thread, the little boy does not hit himself anymore. From what I have observed, he couldn’t get his words out so got frustrated and started hitting his head. Now he can talk properly and does not hit his head anymore. I conclude the child was frustrated because he couldn’t get his message across (verbally) so he hit himself to show that he was not a happy bunny!! This is my conclusion for this particular child. May not be the case for other children.

I am sure I read in the papers that the UK government wants all the major companies to have 12% biofuel in their supplies! This is going to further increase food prices. I wanted to know what people of this science community felt about biofules and its production. Has anyone here been directly affected or involved with biofuels?

Personally I don’t think it’s sustainable! I think the third world will starve and the food prices will rocket!! Not a good move… That is what I think!

Thank you for your response CharonY. Well basically say you take an organism and it helps in a chemical reaction to produce 4 products (acting as a catalyst). You then genetically alter it so it does not produce the 4th unwanted product. Apparently by law this is not genetic modification. I don’t know if this is true!

What is your opinion on Biofuels? Do you think it will take off? Has anyone heard of 2nd generation biofuels? I do not think it is sustainable!
