Well, if you happen to also be male, evolution will be very cruel indeed, as you will be unable to pass along your genes. And god-fearing men seem not to be particularly peaceful, historically speaking. How come people complain about the cruelty of evolution, and yet gravity, which has caused countless injuries and deaths, gets a free pass? What makes people happy, or at least gives them a warm fuzzy, is not a consideration. How nature behaves is not caused by what makes you feel good.

They are predicted not to exist by Maxwell's equations. There have been one or two instances of experiments detecting something with a signature consistent with a magnetic monopole, but these are not conclusive. If they do exist they appear to be extremely rare.

Here's a clue: Protons repel, and yet nuclei do not fly apart. You can look at "mirror" nuclei, like H-3 vs He-3, to see the relative effect of the electrostatic force involved. The binding energy differs by only about 0.8 MeV from the proton vs. neutron, but the total nuclear-force binding energy is 8.5 MeV (for H-3), or more than 2.8 MeV per pairing.

You haven't noticed that it's dark on half of the surface? You don't want to use the surface area of a sphere. You want the area it projects, i.e. the area of the circle, which is 1/4 the size. Then you don't have to worry about the projection angle - it's already accounted for.

(a) is only part of the story. Science has to be falsifiable. But you don't spend all of you time as a scientist trying to disprove things. Science is based' date=' [i']in part[/i], on trying to falsify assertions. Sure, students would benefit from that. There are a lot of things that are important to know about the structure of science that are not dealt with directly in science class. The definition of theory is one, and some modes of critical thought. Perhaps a in philosphy of science class, or something like that.

Change that from "have to" to "are supposed to" since a few districts manage to flout the rule until the judicial system gets around to them. And it's not just Southern states - Ohio, Kansas , Pennsylvania and Wisconsin have gotten into the act in recent years, IIRC. I can agree with weird, but consider that the American system of government was set up by people who fled Europe because they didn't like some aspect of the government system there. Of course we end up acting different. We are astounded by some European behavior, too.
