  1. ! Moderator Note More off-topic posts have been removed.
  2. FreedomRider has been banned as a sockpuppet of Achilles (and eggman2)
  3. nymnpseudo has been banned as a sockpuppet of coffeesippin
  4. The Operator has been banned for violations of our rule against slurs, and even more posts that hinted at such tendencies. We are just not interested in entertaining those conversations.
  5. If you're trying to check and see if you're correct, you should check this against your references. You cited a wikipedia reference that has discussion and also a list of references. I would check there.
  6. This just appears to be the Lagrangians of different interactions. As such, it would likely not be "derived" in any more detail. In classical (nonrelativistic) mechanics, the Lagrangian is simply L = KE - PE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagrangian_mechanics It's a way of solving problems using energy rather than forces. Which lends itself to QM problems, since you don't really talk about forces and kinematics at the quantum level.
  7. Richard B Richardson has been banned as a sockpuppet of Impressive Science Word
  8. ! Moderator Note I have snipped the last post owing to copyright violation concerns. You can't just copy a web site and post it here. The details are at the linked site
  9. Tahir Gorgen has been promoted from the mod queue to the banned list for some posting activity that fortunately never appeared (only visible to the mods, which is a goal of the mod queue)
  10. Yes. While I can believe it’s fairly common, suggesting that it’s nearly universal is a stretch.
  11. Snoopy has shot down Theredbarron, who will not be returning to our skies until after the weekend. Repeated soapboxing and an inappropriate response to moderator action.
  12. ! Moderator Note Let's stick to the topic of the OP The discussion on "time is energy" has been split https://www.scienceforums.net/topic/117599-time-is-energy-split-from-what-is-space-made-of/
  13. It’s everywhere. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolysis_of_water http://www1.lsbu.ac.uk/water/electrolysis.html Feel free to update the wikipedia page
  14. Probably not. The reaction requires a minimum of 1.23 V, and you need more than that from your battery, because the potential drops throughout the circuit. AA gives a max of 1.5 V, and it’s lower for rechargeables and alkaline batteries thst have been used. Two in series, though, should work. >5V would be even better
  15. fredreload has been added
  16. So you're comparing a new design with an electric motor vs an old design with combustion, instead of comparing electric vs combustion in a new design. That kinda skews the analysis, don't you think?
  17. ! Moderator Note I will reiterate Phi's note above, since it was missed. Even though this is in the Lounge, I'm going to request that first-time posters stay away. If you are joining just to advertise your YouTube Channel, your links will be removed. We are not here to advertise for you. IOW, you can link to other peoples' youtube channels. If you're new, we aren't going to bother verifying if there's a question about who owns it. We will just disappear the post
  18. Aviation fuel has an energy density > 40 MJ/kg, and the bonus of not having to fill the tank up all the way (i.e. the mass is variable) so you don't have to provide additional lift for a short flight — you just load less fuel. Does the efficiency of a battery-powered engine make up for this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviation_fuel#Energy_content Jet-A doesn't look to be that much more expensive than gasoline https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2008/04/how-much-does-it-cost-to-fill-up-the-tank-on-a-corporate-jet.html 6.75 lbs/gal, so that's a little over 3 kg, or about 120-130 MJ. For electricity, it's around $0.12 per kWh, which is 3.6 MJ. So about $3 - $4 for 120 MJ. Perhaps half the cost, but not accounting for the extra weight you have to lug into the air because you've got all those batteries, which means you need additional fuel. (plus the amortized cost of the batteries over their useful life) I'm sure they would , but what connection is there to this? I can appreciate that the electric engine would be silent, but the propeller?
  19. Q-reeus and beecee have both been suspended for three days for not being able to lay off the personal jabs at each other.
  20. To paraphrase a fellow staff member: as if any of us have time for that. It's clear from what you've written elsewhere that you have no clue why you were suspended. It's easy to blame it on prejudice and bigotry; it requires no effort on your part to examine your actions. But the fact of the matter is that we have rules, and you have violated them. This is not your platform. You are a visitor in someone else's home, and came here voluntarily. While we enjoy spirited discussion, you must stay within the guidelines that have been established. If you don't, you will be shown the door. It's up to you.
  21. quantenmaschine has been suspended three days for repeated hijacking of discussions with a personal theory. It belongs in a museum speculations.
  22. coffeesippin has been suspended 3 days for repeated thread hijacking
  23. Reg Prescott has been banned for serial hijacking, which has become worse with time.
  24. Olin has been banned for not correcting his soapboxing behavior, along with other transgressions of the rules.
  25. franco malgarini has had his posting privileges revoked until the spring, due to numerous violations of rule 2.7 (linking and including content without explanation, so that people might participate in the discussion here on SFN)
