Christians [should] abide by the Bible. I don't know "natural theology". It sounds extra-biblical. Anyway ... Exodus 21:22-25. It says nothing about where the soul [if one exists at that point] goes. It refers to an unsolicited miscarriage as being wrong, and "harm done" may refer to inability to have more children or other disability of the woman. Exodus 21:12-14. "Anyone who strikes a man and kills him" ... obviously not a fetus. So, you're talking about the right/wrong of abortion, not the disposition of whatever soul might be affected. As far as I know, and I've read the Bible at least twice, neither the OT or the NT mentions abortion. I just checked my exhaustive concordance, and "abort" ("aborted", "abortion", etc) does not appear in the Bible. However, "miscarry" (or "miscarried", etc) appears four times: Gen 31:38 — These twenty years I have been with you. Your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried, and I have not eaten the rams of your flocks. Ex 23:26 — None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. Job 21:10 — Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves and does not miscarry. Hos 9:14 — Give them, O LORD— what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

The Bible does not address the disposition of the souls of the unborn or of children.

A concrete brazier. With sturdy concrete, metal cylinders may not be necessary. I also think wooden skids/skis/runners and a rope would help to drag/tow this stove/heater into and out of the house.

What are the consequences of pole reversals on Earth?
ewmon replied to Juryoku's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
No, it's not in Ontario, which is relatively far to the south, at least it hasn't been there in the last couple of centuries or so. It's about 2,200 miles north of Ontario. It may be headed slowly in the direction of Siberia, but don't expect it to reach there in the next few decades — at least. Earth's magnetic poles change slowly over time, so I don't see anything catastrophic happening. Why would it wink out of existence, even temporarily? Maybe someone more knowledgeable can help. -
The only acne-constipation correlation I can think of is that fiber prevents constipation, but it also absorbs cholesterol and other lipids and keeps them being absorbed, which would help to counteract acne that many people claim results from "oily" foods.

Well ... uh ... maybe I should work in international affairs Osama bin Laden mission agreed in secret 10 years ago by US and Pakistan

Actually ... I'm partly serious. How else could Pakistan weather through OBL's capture/death? I'd say, take the koran burning fury, multiply it times a thousand, and direct it at the Pakistani government. That is what they'd be up against. Pakistan would have to pretend to be naïve/non-conspiratorial. Like I said, this almost deserves a thread of its own. If Pakistan found OBL for us and/or gave us its blessings to go in and get him, they'd have to pretend to be innocent. And if they didn't, they'd actually be innocent. I see no other choice.
-
Here's a conspiracy theory perhaps worthy of its own thread. US and Pakistan previously agreed that: there'd be hell to pay if Pakistan actively assisted US in obtaining OBL. So... the US will act unilaterally and secretly in obtaining OBL from Pakistan if found there; the US would immediately "terminate" OBL, to keep him from disclosing the truth; and the US and Pakistan will then pretend to distrust/despise one another (ie, Pakistan: "The US invaded us! Mean ol' Americans! (And they lie -- see below!)" and US: "Pakistani officials must have known OBL location. Let's cut its foreign aid!"). Otherwise, how could Pakistan ever cope with having assisted the US in obtaining OBL?

How about useful veggies instead of ornamental flowers? This is a amazing experiment with whatever you choose to grow. Get an empty 2- or 3-liter plastic soda bottle and remove its label. Cut off the bottle's top at the "shoulder" — where the sides begin to curve inward toward the spout. Line the sides with 1 or 2 sheets of dark "construction paper" or similar material (that is, something that tends to lose its strength when wet). Fill the space inside with planting soil up to, but not over, the tops of the paper. Add enough water to moisten the soil and the paper, but don't waterlog the soil too much. Buy maybe three different packages of seeds for veggies that your nephew enjoys eating (corn, radish, beans, carrot, etc). Slip one or two seeds from each packet between the bottle and the paper at the prescribed depth below ground level (although this isn't very critical), trying to leave room for the roots to grow downward. Place the bottle in a sunny window. Keep it watered and turn it halfway around every day so each baby plant gets its share of sunlight. Everyone can watch the seeds grow into their favorite veggies. Plant the rest of the packets in regular starter pots (or maybe egg cartons ... you were saving them all winter, weren't you?). Any plants in the bottle that will grow too large for the bottle (corn, squash, etc) will need to be transplanted into the garden, but smaller plants such as radishes, beans, maybe carrots, etc can probably stay in the bottle.

Think about it. The Earth and Moon are already a combined mass (via gravitation) orbiting the Sun at a certain distance and period, regardless of whether the two bodies are separate or together. Any which way you divide or combine the two masses, the distance and period will remain constant. What determines orbital parameters is their combined energy, which is ½mv². It also doesn't depend upon the ratio of their masses: this would hold true if the Earth & Moon were "binary planets" with a 50%/50% mass distribution.

No it doesn't. Mixing soda and Mentos only causes the carbon dioxide to come out of solution. With guns, the blast from the gunpowder alone (no bullet) is sometimes enough to kill.

the physical basis of computer simulation
ewmon replied to Ricky's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
I've used the Monte Carlo method, and it begins with knowing that the model realistically simulates the real world in terms of characteristic, quantification, etc. No approximation is perfect, so it's always a matter of degree, and it often relies on intimate knowledge of the real world. -

Just ask yourself: Why would you divide 48 by the 2 but not by the y? If you had $48 billion, and you had to divide it among 2 hundred people, or 2 thousand people, or 2 million people, you would divide the $48 billion by the 2 *and* the hundred, or thousand, or million.

Missing person photos: To "smile" or not to "smile"??
ewmon replied to ewmon's topic in Other Sciences
I'd think the authorities would have some expert knowledge about what kinds of photos to request, and apparently, they ask for the most "buffed up" shots available. Maybe it's psychological, where the public is more likely to be on the lookout for attractive people. Ref: Missing white woman syndrome. -
Wikipedia's article on Aroma compounds has some interesting info.

So, I think you're asking how humans/animals quantify scents.

Other sciences – Forensics We've all seen them — photos of missing persons — and they are almost always well-coiffed, well-dressed, well-made-up, posed, smiling, happy photos. But are they the most realistic depictions to publicize given that the person is kidnapped, abused, injured, unhappy, and/or without cosmetics? Solving abductions before they become murders is more important than vanity. Why not publicize more "everyday" candid shots of missing people? What about profile or ¾ shots? How often do we actually see someone full on? If it's a child, what about a "from above" photo instead of a "same level" photo? What are the pros and cons of these various depictions? Is it that smiling photos show more dynamics of someone's facial expressions? Without the grooming, cosmetics, etc, I think I wouldn't recognize this woman. Ms Holly Bobo of Parsons TN abducted April 13th.

false Errh ... false religion thread? We do know what day it occurred — the first Sunday after the full moon following the northern hemisphere's vernal equinox. It's Christmas 25 December that's almost certainly wrong, and because Christians say life begins at conception, we should really celebrate his conception, and not his birth (but try telling that to the powers to be!).
