Hey guys, I need to construct an amplifier circuit for a function generator I have in my lab. I wanted to use the Op Amp IC OPA541AP from Texas Instruments as this is the same chip used in the Pasco amplifiers and can work with a large amount of frequencies. I've tried looking for typical applications of this chip but keep coming back to the data-sheet for the chip which doesn't give me a amp circuit. Any help you guys give will be greatly appreciated. Just have a quick capacitor question. How does one find the amperage of a charged cap. Say if I had 120volt 30 micro farad cap, how would I find the amperage produced if discharged? Another question, what about if there were 5 caps lined up in parallel, then what's the amperage? A formula would be fantastic, I've tried looking online but I can't seem to get a straight answer.

Hey guys- So I've been pretty bored so far this summer and have been dicking around on the internet when I came upon a really neat trick. Turning an mp3 into a png. Check it out, I've added links to 4 different png's for you to try. CONVERTING AN MP3 TO A PNG: 1. Open your mp3 in a sounds editor and reduce the quality so that the file is smaller than whatever websites file size limit is that you want to upload to. (completely optional) 2. Save the file as an mp3, then rename it to "XYZ.raw" (you must have "Hide extensions for known file types" unchecked in the folder options to do this) 3. Open the file in photoshop, and save it as a PNG. CONVERTING BACK TO SOUNDFILE: 1. Open the PNG in photoshop and save it as a .RAW file. 2. Rename the file to "XYZ.mp3" 3. Enjoy. I gave each file an arbitrary name, no need to worry, this was only to keep you guessing before you opened the song. Whats really neat about this is that the file properties remain, such as the name of the band and song name so even though it's file name is "1.png', once converted and opened in winamp, the file properties remain. (File 3 was shrunk in a music editor, I didn't have the patience to do the others) This whole thing is very interesting to me, I've done some experiments with photoshop just to try and see the parameters of what we're working with. I created a new file and just added a bunch of noise which is what the png looks like, however when converted nothing happens. So I'm curious about what makes these files special and different especially since you can draw over the png and it'll screw up the song with weird clicks and distortion. Check it out and lemme know what you guys think especially regarding any theories on how this works. Nope, I'm not really worried about stress on the joints of the laptop lid. I plan on having it attached at the lowest point on the screen so the force on it would be very small and the weight of the hdd is only a few ounces. I'm just curious if the magnets in the hdd will do anything to my screen over time.

Ok, so I bought a small Western Digital passport hard drive (.5" 120gb model) the other day with the notion that I'd put things like my Steam files on there as well as a few other games and movies, something like a portable entertainment drive for my laptop so I don't have to lug around my other two external drives, both need external power and are about 3.5" thick. The thing I wanted to do with this new drive when I'm set up in my dorm room was mount it on the back of my laptops screen, the top of the notebook once the lid is closed to keep it out of the way (my desk is cluttered as it is). But I'm curious if the magnets in the drive will screw up my screen over time. I've already pressed the drive to my screen to see if any immediate warping occurs and nothing seems wrong , but I'm more worried about the long term. anyone have any insight into this?

Alright so I'm sure we've almost all heard about the glowing pickle. You apply a voltage across a pickle and it glows if the watts are high enough, generally this is with the house circuit. From what I've read this is due to the sodium in the pickle being excited by the electricity which is known as the Sodium-D line. So I'm wondering if this same principle could be demonstrated with the pickle juice itself. It pretty much boils down to me having a jar of pickle juice that I want to do something with.

Wow, I haven't been here in a long time. Anyways, the link in question is most likely http://www.instructables.com/id/EPJ15FCF1V9XH5E/ That is the link to a coil/rail gun capacitor bank. This particular bank in question is similar to the one I'm making. I've got 22 330v capacitors lined up and am charging off of the camera circuit using a dc converter power supply so I don't have to worry about batteries. If this is you're first time with electronics I wouldn't start with this. Oops, yea. Both computers are running on xp. The router is something I ordered. It hooks up through my dsl modem, and then from the router to my desktop so that it has internet. There really shouldn't be any signal strength issues because I'm sitting right next to it typing this. Still nothing. My laptop supports 802.11g/b. The wifi card is internal, all I have to do is click deactivate to turn it off on the network list.

Ok, first off, this is just a post for help. I just recieved a linksys wireless-g broadband router, 2.4 ghz, 802.11g. I got the router for my laptop so I could have internet in my room without the wires. The laptop is a dell E1505 and has wifi internet access built in and works at the same frequency as the router. I hooked it up yesterday, installed the software on the desktop, it works as a router, however my laptop is not detecting any wireless network. Any ideas? The SSID name is the same on all pieces of equipment, I'm on the same channel, so I have no idea. I'm at a loss. Thankyou in advance for any help you give me.

No, sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm not going to ND, I just went there as a part of a summer program to learn how to operate the particle accelerator. I'm going to college at Michigan Technological University, and yes, I'm a physics major.

Hey guys, haven't been around in a while I know. Been busy, graduation a few weeks ago. Went to the Notre Dame particle accelerator two weeks ago. Sick for a week, now work. Hah, barely had time for the internet. That is if anyone remembers me. Anyways, while at N.D. I picked up a HUGE amount of books, now I have this collection of atleast 11 physics books I need to get through before I start college at the end of august. But I was thinking, am I going to be overprepared, if that's even possible? I mean, I'm going through a massive physics problem book that has everything from simple mechanics to black hole and radiation calculations. I'm getting that whole thing done in the next few weeks. And on top of that, I'm getting into all the other books, all physics related. Do you think this is wise? Or am I setting myself of to be burnt out early. Heh, I knew you guys would be the hardest to convince. And that copyright thing was just put in there as a weak joke. But, thankyou for the idea's, I really like the one padren suggested. And it was ment for your room only, I am only 18 and I still live with my parents (waiting to go to college in the fall), and to be honest, I could really care less if it costs more to cool the ice and to have the heat from the cooling go the the rest of the house. I've told them numerous ideas to try and up the efficiency of our house but they pretty much refuse to listen, so I've given up and am only worried about myself now.

You could probably just switch it out with an aquarium air pump. The kind that pump bubbles through the tank.

Ok, if you're like me, you're inside all day. And with the cost of living skyrocketing, it's becomming harder and more expensive to cool your home in the summer. I have come up with a simple (so simple you'll say "why didn't I think of that") and easy way to remedy this for your room if it's small enough and you have a few dollars to spare. All you need to do is take an aquarium pump and some aquarium tubing from a pet store or big conglomerate store (walmart), and a 6-volt battery if you get the kind that uses batteries like I am. Get a deep bowl, a flower vase works well. Fill the vase with water, and add a tray of ice cubes, just guess, the more ice you use the longer it will take before you need to change the water. Hook it up so that the outlet is tubed and the tubing goes to the bottom of the vase, where the inlet is not hooked up to anything and is just sucking air. Once you attach it to the batter, the pump will kick on and start pumping air into the vase. The air cools down to the temperature of the water and graduately cools the room. This will probably take an hour or more till you notice a difference depending on the size of your room and if you have any air leaks or if you have an un-shaded window (window without shades to block the light). This works best at night when you're trying to sleep. Or running before you sleep. I'll supply some pictures when I have a chance. This was completely my idea, so, copyright!

I hate nearly every celebrity. The only one I can remotely stand is Johnny Depp. Although I suppose I hate those who worship the ground they walk on more. Those sad pathetic individuals who go to the super market to purchase every celebrity magazine on the shelf. Those people I'd just like to bash in the face and show them how pathetic they are. (a little harsh, but just)

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a website or any formulas they can post that relate to flight, planes, helicopters, and propellors. I have some designs I want to test through mathematics, and once I have the designs down on paper I'll post them here to go through you guys. But to get the idea first and foremost, I'll let you know that I'm trying to make a gas powered turbine on a stiff winged glider for personal use as well as a single prop flying observational camera. You'll understand once I post the drawings. Heh, I already have my head in the clouds, why not get the formulae for them as well. O.o

Well, with string theory, there is another theory that goes along with that one. We basically live in 4 dimensions, the other 6 are balled up into something the size of a plancks length. The theory goes that upon the time of the singularity (the big crunch), the other 6 dimensions will open up once the former 4 have been nearly destroyed. Ergo, we will be able to jump to the other 6 if we find a way to do so. And we find that the string theory really is truth. Also, whats stopping the Type III civilization from saving unwanted energy. Like the scientologists and their eternal battery.

This is a question I came up with after I finished the book "Hyperspace" by Michio Kaku. Hypothetically, suppose humanity survives, prospers and actually explores space. Also suppose that we are able to survive for millions upon billions of years. Going through a few evolutions along the way we eventually become a class III civilization on the Kardashev scale. We master and are able to collect all energy from our galaxy. Now, suppose that we survive up until the universe begins to end. This is where either the universe contracts in on itself ending in a singularity (the big crunch) or the universe continues to expand ending in where everything hits absolute zero (the big freeze). Which one of these do you believe we will be able to survive? Remember that our technology increases exponentially and we are by then a Class III civilization. I personally believe that if the universe contracts in on itself we will be able to survive it if we just move outside the area where the singularity is occuring. This is that we are assuming that space is infinite. Gravity will be much less millions of light years away from the point of retraction. But what do you think?
