  1. Heh, thankyou, I certainly hope so as well. Unfortunately, I've been told that I need to create a base plane first, with just a plastic propellor before I can go more advanced. Although this is probably good, it is more time consuming and we only have 3 weeks left and I haven't even started yet.
  2. Interesting, you wouldn't happen to remember what kind of build he used would you? Well, at any rate, thankyou, I certainly hope to do well.
  3. I didn't come up with the name, science olympiad did. Anyways, I have joined my schools science olympiad team, and I have chosen the task of creating a model aircraft to fly for over 2 minutes minumum. I'm sure some of you have been in science olympiad before and have even participated in this event, so, I thought this would be an ideal time to pass this design I came across onto you. The rules are located here; http://www.tx.ncsu.edu/science_olympiad/Tournament_information/Event_rules_nc/wright_stuff_b_06.htm And the design I want to emulate looks similar to this; And this is the one that most people tend to build; The only things we are allowed to use are; balsa wood, glue, paper, and most recently, plastic film, which is what I plan to use. In fact, I hope to use the kind of plastic film that has shrink wrap qualities, so no glue is required and will create little, if no, ripples on the wing and tail. Most people use the store bought plastic prop, however, being that it is so small, the rubber band expends all of its energy quickly and has none left for extended flights. I suspect that the propellor will just get the plane up to speed quickly and not keep it aloft for more than a minute or so. However, the wing design and basic construction across most aircraft are the same. So the biggest difference between normal designs and the one I would like to emulate is in the prop. Supposedly, the larger prop spins much more slowly and expends its energy at a much slower rate, in addition, the design is very light and does not require a great amount of thrust to get off the ground, so, the slow prop design should work. However, my only concern is the propellor is going to be very hard to construct, being that it is constructed from balsa wood, I am worried about it not being able to bend at a sufficient curve before breaking. Hopefully I'll be able to shave it to a small enough thickness that it will bend without much trouble. According to people who have built this and flew it in large open areas, the model flew for nearly 30 minutes, although I have reason to doubt the claim, it could still prove to be fun even to just try. So, what do you guys think? Do you think it will work? Or even have a chance?
  4. Well, I agree that with current propulsion technology, we would never get anywhere in our universe successfully, even with experimental ion drives. However, a theoretical design of a hyperdrive has been submitted to government groups including NASA, and according to the creator, we will have a test model in 5 years. The hyperdrive is said to travel through seperate dimensions where the speed of light is faster than in our current dimension utilizing intense magnetic fields. The drive is said to allow travel to mars in 3 hours and a star 11 light years away in just 80 days. Source: http://www.sci-tech-today.com/story.xhtml?story_id=0110000QGNPI Still, this drive is all theory, and most people do not believe it will work. But here's hoping!
  5. Well, in all likely-hood, everything would go up in price to compensate.
  6. haha, nah, no aliens. however, the chip the FBI planted in my head keeps telling me to buy useless walmart products... O_o
  7. and I can't believe I typed it! However, I do know where I got the normal rockwell thing from, when I was typing it, I was listening to a comedy central commercial for "Christopher Titus: Norman Rockwell is Bleading" I must have gotten my wires crossed. Well, atleast there's now a reason! lol still, monster+lack of sleep=bad for me
  8. Haha, I can't believe how rediculous that post was, upon re-reading it I retract all statements. Heh, when I typed it I hadn't slept for quite some time and had been drinking far too many caffeinated drinks. Believe me, if I were in the right state of mind when typing it, I wouldn't have been wrong in the authour of war of the worlds. >.< In any case, that theory wasn't even mine, I just wanted to see your take on it. Next time, I'll be sure to sleep before posting.
  9. Yea, I never knew it was called brown gas either? It doesnt even look brown to me. Anyways, I'm a big alternative energy fan, and have been looking for this particular device for quite some time, this was actually the first step I was going to take before switching over entirely to hydrogen for my car (after I made the 7 grand it costs). Anyways, please let me know how this works out for you, because for 200$, its too good a price to pass up.

    Projects

Try here They have a HUGE amount of electronics projects for you to try, about 2000, all of which are very cool.
  11. I've been looking for guarana in its natural plant form forever! Nobody online sells it, and I don't have any magazines that sell it. I am a bit of a plant fan, I have a few already, but I want to add guarana to it because I'm a big fan of the energy drinks (particularly Monster) and they all have the plants' berry juices in them, and, from what I've read, its more powerful than caffeine and actually better for you because it isn't artificial. So, if any of you guys could help me out with this one, I would be most greatful. Being that some of you are going to, or associated with, a college or university where they can get hard to find items. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Just to clarify, what kind of plane are we talking about? Is it just the normal two wings, tail, and propellor? and how many propellors for that matter? What kind of build is the plane? Fiberglass or aluminum? And as for the open radiator, you could just run the steam through pipes along with the skin of the plane, it would get proper airflow without restricting it in anyway.
  13. I could see that as being feasable, but we're dealing with steam, so the radiation would have to be converted to electricity, to heat, then into steam through the water. I see the nuclear source being the most viable thus far. If only cold fusion were perfected, that could certainly work.
  14. I don't quite understand, do you mean putting fiber glass in the individual baggies that drug dealers tend to package the marijuana in?
  15. The games would be insane, Halo in true first person perspective. Although, another concept crossed my mind, would you be able to save the data to diamonds? or are the diamonds just a bride between storage and application? If they can store data, would they need a power supply? And, if data can be stored, I'd imagine you could store a huge amount, do you think that we could one day store our entire consciousness on a diamond? Essentially defeating death and acheiving a conscious immortallity. The possibilities are near endless.
  16. Haha, well you're already two steps ahead of me.
  17. Haha, I'll add to it. I for one do not think it could ever work. If we're talking about a normal propeller style aircraft, you wouldn't be able to convert enought water into steam fast enough to keep it airborn. Even if you could produce steam fast enough, the weight of the water, equipment, and fuel would weigh it down far too much. The only conceivable possibility I can see is that you use a small nuclear source, something like a mini nuclear reactor to produce the steam. Although, even that is questionable.
  18. well, you'd be surprised at how many people are currently using it. Although it appears that I'm the only one on this site
  19. Kind of a cool add-on for firefox. http://www.yakalike.com/ It allows you to chat with other people visiting the same website as you, as long as the other person has the same software. Unfortunately, registration is closed, but you can still use a temporary name through the download, and you don't have to be registered to download it.
  20. Not too long ago, the KGB declassified the Blue Folder which is said to hold information regarding the existance of aliens. http://www.indiadaily.com/editorial/6063.asp Quite an interesting read. Now to my point. Ok, this is going to be really really really out there, so stick with me. As you may or may not know or remember, Norman Rockwell's "War of the Worlds" broadcast caused a huge amount of mass confusion as people thought the world was actually being invaded. After this, do you suppose that the United Nations, or some other world wide association decided to increase the exposure of the concept of aliens to the world in an attempt to lessen the chances of mass chaos if aliens were to truely show themselves. This would also prove, or give rise to evidence, that the government has known about aliens for quite some time. Look at how many things lately pertain to aliens, countless tv shows, many blockbuster movies, articles, news pieces, and now the Blue Folder being declassified. I suppose you could call it a conspiracy on a global scale, but could you recognise this as a possiblity or just pure fantasy?
  21. Would this be considered as bestiality? Hmm, this certainly is a strange one.
  22. *pssst* You know, you can press the quote button under the other persons post and it will do the quotation thing for you. And sorry, I have nothing substantial to add to this post.
  23. Oooh man, that's going to be so cool I just salivate at all the possibilities.
  24. This has been a rumored conversion from our current silicon technology in the near future on several sites and news groups. Scientists have recently been able to grow diamonds in labs at a rate of something like one carrot an hour, and with their supreme organised structure they are able to transfer heat very well (as far as I understand it) and this would allow immense amounts of data be transfered in milliseconds. In addition to diamond computing, others have said there have been advances in light technology, being able to slow or even stop light ( http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fiction-News.asp?NewsNum=458 ) and are able to transfer data on lightwaves. So, with all these advances, do you think it will once again revolutionise the computer world? Will we finally be able to dump our entire consciousness into a diamond and truely play with our 5 sences in a virtural world? I say Yes! But what do you think?
