If I understand what you are suggesting, and I may not be; On the inside of an expanding sphere (that is stationary), it (the wall of the sphere) would be falling away from you as it is inflated. On the outside of the expanding sphere you would feel the expansion of the sphere in much the same way that gravity would affect you. If the sphere was accelerating it would depend on where in or on the sphere you were positioned as to the affect that the combination of the acceleration and expansion would be experienced by you. There is a point between the Earth and Moon where the pull from each object is the same from both directions the ship without momentum would stay in that spot (as long as it was directly between the Earth and moon which would require it to be traveling with the Moon around the Earth) It would not be a true Earth orbit as such. Is that right?

At what tempurature does matter and energy become the same thing... and what pressure is necessary to maintain that pressure? A black hole comes to mind for me but I don't have any idea how one whould measure such a thing.

Chat with hot singularities in your area

I think the "fabric" of space/time is more tear resistant than that.. -
I tried that but they never slow down to listen... It's always rush, rush, rush... Seriously though, scattering of light; isn't that explainable as waves too? light of a single wave-length scatters less (a lot less) than when you have light of all wavelengths involved. Don't waves propagate in a "scattering" form? I really am trying to get this. Paul, the 60 year old student

Electrons jump to higher energy states when they get hot. Then they fall back and emit the electromagnetic wave we see as light. If you get it hot enough it will emit all kinds of electromagnetic waves - depending on the element involved.

I thought that when an electron absorbed a photon (I hate that word) it jumped to a higher state/orbit???? Is there anyplace outside of the old "mass/gravity" world where light acts like a particle?

You do realize there are other alternatives, right? Libertarian is the #3 party and their platform is to reduce government back to the original constitutional guidelines. Getting the feds out of our pockets, off our property, and out of the business world will make me happier. Lets face it the feds have never had a profitable adventure in any business. How can we expect them to make business decisions for us?

Does anyone really believe in their heart that continuously electing members from the same two parties is ever going to change anything? We have been doing that since Lincoln and it has gotten us this far! How much farther do we need to go before we stop doing the same thing expecting a different outcome?

In a DC circuit the electrons have to return to the source after generating work at the load. I you add another load then you drop the voltage across both devices so you lose functionality. With a 24 v supply you can use one 24 volt motor or two identical 12 volt motors but if you add another motor the voltage drops at each motor and they all slow.

Add water. The alcohol will separate with the water and you can remove the water alcohol in a centrifug or if a small amount of waste is tollerable then just pour off the gas while the water and alcohol sinks to the bottom. Yo can then run the water alcohol through a reflux still and get the alcohol back to use for anything but drinking - it is denatured and toxic.

It might be less complicated and less expensive to use LED illumination - it takes a lot less voltage and could be triggered with a standard 555 IC.

Thank you both - I will do some reading on tachyons and see what I can find. Paul

Whether the process is actually feasible or not you can "stack" the towers as long as each tower begins with a resivoir. Use the capilary action to get water to the first rservoir and then use another to lift it to another, and another - each time the reservoir would be open to atmospheric pressure and the next stage could lift from there. I do think it would be difficult, if not impossible to get enough volume in this way to be a usable power source - even for a single unit dwelling but I like the creative effort.

The voltage from the capacitors (and their charge state) depends on the voltage input and the time given to charge. If you are using just the batteries to charge the capacitors you will never end up with more voltage than that of the batteries. If you are using the charger from the flash unit then you will get much more voltage but you will need to charge them for a longer period. I don't understand what the by-pass diode is used for - do you have a schematic that you could post? For the "fire" switch are you using a high speed SCR or will you be using a UJT? What do you want for a maximum voltage/charge?

I was watching a show on PBS about the cosmos and they said that there was a particle that traveled and could only exist at speeds faster than the speed of light. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this particle but I wonder if it is purely theoretical or there is more to it than that. How would such a particle be made and how would we detect it? thanks, Paul

The larger the diameter the flatter the floor could be if you kept the "living" width the same. With a 100 meter radius and a "room width" of say 5 meters you could get away with a flat floor without the difference being noticeable to the occupants. The inside hub could be used for storage, mechanicals and utilities with feeds to the habitat ring. The entrance and exits would have to be through the center access tunnel - being mindful of the rotation conflict between the turning wheel and the non-rotating hub center.

Ewmon, Thank you very much for your help. I think it will be helpful. I may have to resolve myself to giving them the math and let those that can deal with it help teach those who don't. Sometimes kids can accomplish what we adults can't. You have simplified this a lot more than I could on my own so you are my hero ! Thanks, Paul

Are you using the flash charger to charge the capacitors or just the battery? I am not an engineer but it sounds like you have a lot to learn about the device you are attempting to make.

and if you don't cancell anything (which you do): Here is a strange equation I found: a=b a^2 = ab a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2 (a + b)(a - b) = b(a - b) [(2a)(0) = (b)(0)] = 0 = 0 a + b = b.......................reassigned values a + b = 0 (a = b)..........................reassigned values a = b = 0 a + a = a.......................0 + 0 = 0 2a = a..........................2 x 0 = 0 2 = 1...........................0 = 0 The simple fact is that zero will almost always cause conflicts which is why it is not a number. exceptions?: 0/0 = 1 any number divided by itself is 1 (I know) 0n = 0 (I know) n/0 (if n<>0) = infinity (Yes I know) "I know" = zero is not a number - it is a place holder.

actually, most of the engines come with a burn rate chart showing when Thrust reaches its peak (approx. .2 seconds) and when the thrust reaches its constant rate (approx. .4 seconds) and the aversage thrust. The total impulse is also listed. Model rockets are weighed before launch (with engine) so I have the weight in grams. As for the math on the NASA page it is way too complex to teach the kids - most of them have no more than general math background. The maximum altitude figure I am looking for would be the theoretical maximum (even excluding air resistance) height that the rocket would never exceed. (or even achieve in the real world) I have searched both the NASA site and the Estes site (at least the parts I can access) and not found what I am looking for, which is why I am asking here.

Yep! my math error was that I wrote and computed 37 feet instead of inches - oops! It makes a big difference.

Here is a quote from the article cited: They aren't teleporting atoms - just the information about the ion, from one to another.

The problem here is that you have to accept that it was already in motion before it formed. The rotation began as the system started to compress from a gas and debris cloud into a solar system.

Is there an easy way to calculat the approximate altitude (maximum possible) if you know the weight of a model rocket and the engines total impulse that I can teach to 1st through 5th graders? Thanks, Paul - thinking of starting a model rocketry club for beginners through a local school.
