  1. can we call them Casper, Melchior and Balthasar?
  2. 'an island' I will have an island with piles of grammar books
  3. essentially the addiction is because the body responds by growing more ACH receptors, and so when you come off the nicotine there are too many, and you get an adverse reaction. and in order to get the same effect you need to smoke more...
  4. that's what delegation is for...
  5. Governmnt could get there alot quicker if it had any drive. jsut think f the mount of money wasted because ESA, Lockheed etc etc are all spending money developing entirely different rockets, when they may as well dump it all into something a bit more innovative.
  6. mister_me: millions of people believed that the earth is flat. It isn't.
  7. sort of, you can include the occurance of liife as a single step though, since if any part is incomplete, it never really happened. so you consider that as the probability, and then consider all the others separately.
  8. because something with no function would not be selected for, and besides, these things don't come about overnight.
  9. ask yourself this, what purpose does the planet serve? what purpose does the universe serve? why does there have to be a purpose? why does there have to be an answer to the last question? what is north of the north pole? some things you can ask, but they have no meaningful answer.
  10. Gerroff myy laaaarnd. I have moved this to pseudoscience where it belongs.
  11. pathetic and useless...... I find it somewhat ironic that you use these constructs of language and the human mind, something that would not have even existed were it not for the very human progress you have decried, to put down the very beings that came up with these concepts. 'pathetic' is an irrelevance... what indeed is pathetic? It's an emotive word, something that can't really be applied without comparison to something else. 'useless' is such an horiffically emotive, and biased word, one could say that everything is useless, since even the universe itself serves no purpose, it's just one giant machine, chugging inexorably into the future based on a series of unchanging rules.
  12. http://www.rael.org/ the people who claim to have cloned a baby.
  13. not likely... have you seen the people who claimed to have don it?
  14. I guess this defect would be an entirely different process from that which makes white people white, and oriental people yellowy, and so on then?
  15. well the virii are generally too complicted to have merely come about by chance, as in, come about cindependently of life. faf's conjectre is probably the best, since however it happened, a virus that occured as a result of a mutation in some bacterium would have all the nescesary tools to hand in order to manipulate cells, and control the internal cellular machinery.
  16. in theory, if you could make a lump of anti-iron or somesuch then you could suspend it in a field. I suspect that it would be hellishly difficult and inefficient to make anti-iron though.
  17. yeah, it would have to be magnetic confinement, or perhaps optical molasses.
  18. when you get to the atomic and hence, quantum picture, it will look entirely different.
  19. It's a theory in which the vast majority of the evidence has been destroyed, and cannot be recreated like it can in physics and chemistry. Both the supporters and the detractors of evolution know this to be the case, and both use the lack of evidence as argument for, and counterargument against. the discovery of life on other (non contaminated) planets would be fascinating.... especially if evolution is clear.
  20. u huh. you're like a cheap Japanese cartoon character... mega-zarkov.
  21. barney is findamentally evil.
  22. this is really shocking... someone should do some research into how much of this goes on, and write a book on it...
  23. well this is pretty interesting. As your friendly Johnny Foreigner (no, I don't come from a country called England where yearly we stone a family to death ) sadly alot of the time America doesn't really look like such a good place. I've never had a conversation about this kind of thing with any intelligent, non extreme right wing budding NRA member, but when it comes to 'freedom' the US often seems to be one of the most un-free western countries around. It is not so much the fundamental day-to-day things that I am really talking about here, but the government and also the media. A prime example of this sort of this thing is Michael Moore's recent book, 'Stupid White Men' which is a fascinating insight into why the US Government (regardless of who is actually in charge, I would suspect) sucks, and corporations have too much power, not to mention Bush's proposed all seeing eye, that would watch over your bank accounts, transactions, movements and very existances. Now I'm not getting at the American people, so please don't think I am, and nor am I saying that my, or for that matter, any other country is better. the US has alot of good stuff going for it, but the sort of thing that is mentioned in the leader to this article, and alot of the stuff that I have read, concerns me greatly when this is the country that is in effect the leader of the free world. If anyone wants to discuss this, I'd like that, as I say, it's not a conversation I've had with an intelligent American.
  24. nothing beats a good piece of co-ax.
