I'd like to share a bit of a psychological case study and then a dream that this particular patient had. Then I thought it would be fun for some of you psycho analytical - modern day Freud’s to take a stab at interpreting it! A man in his early thirty visits his psychologist for the first time. The man is about 35 years old, and a catholic priest. He has never been in a sexual relationship ever in his life, partly because he was raised by his mother to believe that sex was an awful and disgusting act that totally degraded women. Which you could argue the fact that his relationship with his mother drove him to become a priest. The man had been struggling with thoughts of sexuality for some time. He got into a relationship with women and started becoming very uncomfortable with the way the physical aspects of the relationship were progressing. The man tells the psychologist that he doesn’t understand why women would allow men to touch them in a sexual way. He continues by saying it bothers him that his new girlfriend allows him to touch her in sexual ways. She gets offended when he gets disgusted when she becomes too aggressive. The man continues therapy for months, and still the psychologist is un able to help this man realize that sex is not such an awful thing. The man then starts having the same reoccurring dream. I'll tell the dream in first person as if you are hearing the man tell it directly to you. "I find myself fishing off a steep river bank. I’m fishing in this very disgusting and polluted water, and I just cant seem to understand why I would even consider fishing for fish in this awful water. That’s when I catch a fish on the end of my fishing rod and I pull the fish out of the water only to find it is rotted and decaying. I am completely appalled at the sight of this fish, but as I go to throw it back the fish is so heavy that I fall off the river bank and land feet first in the polluted water. I am surprised to find I land feet first and im only a few inches in the water. I’m also surprised to see 2 women bathing in the disgusting, dirty water only a few hundred feet down stream. I just could not come to terms why these 2 girls would be bathing in this horribly polluted and decaying river. I’m even more surprised to spot a whale further down stream charging towards these women and I just cannot understand why they wouldn’t get out of the way." That’s the dream, have fun, and this one should be pretty easy: P ... I figured it out pretty quick

It has everything to do with confidence and congruency.... you are the man and in charge...never give up your power in a relationship and eventually women will come to you. David Deangelo.... Double Your Dating...Awesome Stuff!

When Schizophrenic patients seek effective treatment and their symptoms go into remission, they are more likely to experience schizophrenic relapse if a negative environment surrounds them. So you could easily hypothesize that environment can change psychological “hardwiring”. BTW, that 50% figure is inaccurate, but close enough. I actually have a university lecture on my computer with a bunch of factual correlations with monozygotic twins.

Uhh...ethics.... couldn’t you consider ethics to be a real suppressor of scientific evolution... and I think this thread is done....unless someone what’s to rephrase the original question and let us all take a stab at it

Thank you for explaining that nice and clear for everyone. You still didn’t answer my question fully. Yes, ok, it is possible to experience those other senses while dreaming. You have clearly explained that and I thank you for it. Can you actually remember experiencing those other types of sensory hallucinations? I’m trying to determine if its common to smell or taste something in a dream and consciously remember that smell or taste. Its easy for one to close their eyes and imagine a image but it is not easy for one to imagine a taste, smell or sound strongly enough that we actually experience it. Why are we able to "day dream" visual images only and not any others? Is talking to youself in your head a type of audio hallucination? Is this not a very interesting concept I have brought up here? Or does someone have a complete answer?

the bible is nothing more than a fictional story, we are all a type of scientists here, lets not get into the bible....people who believe in something that has no physical proof what so ever need to go hang out with a lower level of life.....sorry.....lol..... but how about we stick to the original question..... What is Normal/Natural Human Behavior? There is a simple answer.... .....there is no right or wrong answer! The concept of Human Behavior is pretty straightforward... anything that an organism (human) does involving action and response to stimulation. The concept of normal (like I mentioned before) is not so straightforward - simply put it’s constituting a norm. So "Normal" behavior is only "Normal" if it is accepted as "normal" among the masses! The concept of Natural is pretty straightforward....anything living or anything normal. Should the Question be rephrased to? What is Acceptable Human Behavior? or What is Instinctive Human Behavior?

Nothing, but iv been told that women feel attraction to a guys personality just as much as they do to his looks. On the other hand I know that what attracts men is mostly looks and only a little bit of personality. We cannot help this trait of ours, and as a result women commonly label men to be shallow. Which with today’s definition isn’t entirely inaccurate. Men are built to be attracted to physical appearance more than personality where as women depend on men to nurture their child, as a result they unconsciously are attracted to men’s personality just as much as looks. Read The Book Sperm Wars for more information on this subject. So one could hypothesis that if you decide to get to know a women first before making the transition from a friendly outing towards dating and physical interaction, you could increase your chances of having this women respect you more than other men, ultimately "broadening the playing field".

lol, ahh common and tell me, im curious and ignorant with this particular question.

Pain starts subconsciously and then comes forth to our collective consciousness.....wouldn’t that be more accurate? - When I talk about the subconscious process I think im trying to describe the "hardwiring" of our species to, without conscious thought, experience the emotion of pain.

haha, i could try give me a bit to think about it and see what i can come up with.

Normal is relative term, therefore there is no such thing as "normal" human behavior, and it can more correctly be called "behavior of the masses"

Can anyone remember with 100% certainty that they could smell or taste something in a dream? As i recall some of my dreams I cannot honestly say if I remember a smell or taste. I know I hear sound, I even experience physical trauma, emotional responses and so forth...but never taste or smell. Im curious if we have the ability to subconsciously smell or taste something. I know the thoughts of food can trigger physical reactions, but can we actually hallucinate to that degree? Are hallucinations only audio and visual?

If you want to get an IQ test why don’t you get a real one? Go visit your local psychologist and they will probably be able to set one up for you. I must warn, I took one when I was 17, and I was not totally impressed with my results .... I like to consider myself a relatively smart and slightly above average intellectual. I didn’t need an average IQ score eating away at my subconscious

Freud was the one to suggest humans have only 2 main motivations. Sex and aggression.......no wonder many of his theories were based around the subconscious sexual meanings of our conscious thoughts, our dreams, our actions, feelings and our subconscious "slips". Wasn’t Freud also the one to suggest that EVERY conscious thought and action was a result of a deeper more subconscious desire? So basically everything we say has a "hidden" meaning. If you believe in this theory you can do some fun psycho- analytical experiments with your friends. Just get them to make up a pretend dream and make sure that they do not attach any personal attributes to any of it. Then sit down and do some dream analysis. If your any bit of a half decent Freudian dream interpreter, you can really pry into their deep subconscious. Your friend will be shocked and outright embarrassed with the interpretations you come up with, most likely because they well reveal some pretty deep feelings he/she has. Pretty neat stuff....I don’t know

Id like to comment on and embellish some of the ideas and concepts mentioned in this post. It took a short period of time for scientists to accept Darwin’s theory that we are all born as a "blank slate" and it was cognitive experiences that ultimately created our personality. It took even longer for scientists to realize that this is not interiorly true. Yes, it is true that our cognitive experiences from the minute we are born, play a major roll in the development of our personality, but we do have some genetic "hardwiring" that is almost like a set of "default" instructions that we developed as a fetis. Monozygotic twins which are twins developed from the same embryo have "identical" genetic make-ups. There was a study done on a few hundred pairs of monozygotic twins that were separated and raised apart from birth. Even though the pairs were raised in completely different environments they shared many physiological correlations and idiot-syncracies.
