  1. I was actually thinking of the "HIV is a virus, AIDS is a syndrome" angle.

    Aids

'Inert' or 'inactive' will do fine in place of 'dead'.
  3. Pyrokinesis and pre-cognition. Not really.
  4. No. If the matter that comprised the black hole was "going somewhere", it wouldn't be a black hole any more.
  5. In our case I don't thin you can really call it replacement; the two sets are distinct and differ greatly.
  6. This is true (as I have mentioned myself in previous threads - look for the Sanctity of Marriage thread), but then "love" in the post you quoted is interchangeable with any number of other factors. The point is that marriage takes place between two individuals; not between individuals and the state. Society has neither the right nor the need to police which of its citizens can or cannot marry.
  7. No, because the middle bit is just made up.
  8. Drone. PM me your email addresses and I'll dish out the gmail invites.
  9. Not in a genetics thread, no.

  11. The situations you are describing have nothing to do with "marriage", they have to do with "people". Marriage is a formal declaration of love between two people - the only people who are qualified to quantify that love (which is what you are proposing by advocating regulation of marriage) are the ones getting married.
  12. Sciencemasta has been suspended after a whopping 3 posts, and can come back when he acts his alleged age.
  13. I understand that; all you need to do is provide a link to the study and a breif description of what it entails. If you don't like people's responses, it's preferable that you ignore them rather than launching scathing attacks that exhibit exactly the same characteristics you were complaining about.
  14. It was the extinction part that did it for me. Given a long enough timeline, all genes will become unrecognisable or extinct.
  15. I understand the point you were trying to make, but it's not really accurate to call genes 'immortal'.
  16. I know this is off-topic, but why would you want to regulate marriage? Doesn't that defeat the purpose?

    Tsumani horror

Yes, the entire planet has. Now please stop trying to use a cataclysmic human tragedy to promote your homepage.
  18. This should speed things up a bit: http://www.scienceforums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6427
  19. It's not that science is biased - it's that the evidence is, unfortunately, not very good. People in your field (and I'm obviously not saying you do this, as I have no reason to assume it) have a tendency to try and present evidence 'of something happening' to satisfy the question of why it is happening, which is unhelpful at best. What really annoys me is when they have self-styled psychic investigators on TV shows, who prowl around darkened houses while running through the entire gamut of emotional reaction, then describe in detail the personal life, times and demise of a Mrs Lucille DuBois, who lived in the house in the late Eighteenth Century. Then the presenters say something like "oooh, there you go viewers. Conclusive proof." That really doesn't do the field any favours.
  20. White holes seem like a fairly juvenile idea tbh.
  21. The people who produced The Core certainly were.
  22. Energy weapons would be fairly ideal for intercepting, confusing and/or detonating homing weapons.
