  1. You have eye monsters. Go see the nurse before they spread to others.
  2. I think what he probably means is that in a large number of cases, the right genes may be there but it will take environmental influence of some sort to "set off the effects", as it were.
  3. Is it just me who finds it terribly funny when people use words like "intelligentia", and spell them incorrectly? Willowtree, you don't have to pick a side here. Evolutionary change and deistic origins are not mutually exclusive. Unless of course the deity you are advocating is too stupid to create a system of life that can't respond to change in its environment, in which you are perfectly entitled to believe.
  4. This may have gone way off topic, but it's jolly interesting.
  5. It is, just not in an elliptical orbit. You orbit-racist
  6. It's about the most natural form of peer review the web is likely to develop.
  7. I'm sure someone will be able to help if you say which part of the question you are stuck on.
  8. I should very much hope there is a change log which can be reviewed daily by the staff.
  9. And as we all know, herring, seals and mackerel are the only chewy things these predators ever encounter.
  10. Yes, but when everyone else starts buying the coal at any price because their petrochemical production has stopped, it'll run out faster. That's what the big advocates of coal in this country don't talk about.
  11. Demigod, or a big blobby rock.
  12. Not necessarily so. There are about as many genetic conditions causing sterility or reduced chances of mating without increased risk of mortality as there are fatal conditions that don't cause sterility or reduce fecundity. I know what you mean to say, it's just not that important to the question you're asking unless you're using the assumption that people with evolutionarily fit genotypes don't benefit from medical intervention.
  13. The metro system is easier than PCR, believe me
  14. So much for Java being a cross-platform solution. What browser are you using?
  15. What makes me say it is that individuals are not "weeded out" in evolutionary theory. You need to be thinking about unfit genotypes, not unfit people. Oh, and watch out for Lamarckism - this is the kind of thread it sneaks into.
  16. Hi Daisy, The chatroom uses a java applet so the first thing I'd do is make sure you have an up-to-date version of java installed for your browser - I think you can get it here: http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp If that doesn't work, you could simply use an IRC client like mIRC or X-Chat. They're not as straightforward I know, but they're the way IRC is meant to be

I have, but that's because they were scare-mongering idiots who knew nothing about genetics and had nothing better to do. Depends what you mean by "safe" though, doesn't it. Wiping ourselves out would be quite funny for a lot of people.
  19. Unless you consider the tides to be an observer, then "yes", of course it's still there.
  20. You can't put anything between pages 201 and 202, because they are on different sides of the same page.
  21. Isn't "liberal!" what you are supposed to shout at people who disagree with you, before you shoot out the tires on their truck?
  22. No, posts in GD don't contribute towards your post count any more. In answer to your query yourdad, posting a joke as a thread starter implies expectation of responses that convey an appreciation of the humour that is being offered.
  23. Geographically? Or because they had China in there?
