  1. I think most people probably agree with that. You are not drawing any distinction between different types of behaviour. Until you do, this approach is not going to get anywhere. If you disagree with me, then I suggest you choose to stop being heterosexual for a week, then come back and let us know how you got on. You should know better than trying to pass off the result of social influences as the result of biological mechanisms. If anything, this example simply goes to show the biology that underlies sexual preference cannot easily be indefinitely over-ridden. Also, do not under-estimate the frequency with which this occurs or the variety of different ways in which it does so - there are plenty of gay mums and dads and open marriages (homo, hetero and bi) out there. Actually, you weren't very careful about that at all.
  2. There was a program about this (the thread, not slime mould) on TV last night.
  3. Any particular reason why they should make that choice? And the punchline is that you have only shown that anyone (not just homosexuals) has the ability to choose whether or not to engage in sexual activity. You have not shown that gay people have the ability to choose to be "not gay".
  4. I suspect this is just one of those people who doesn't know what mutation actually means in an evolutionary context. Also I am sure we have had this discussion before with some other lunatic.
  5. Not to mention the fact that his coming out in this instance was clearly not due to an inability to override urges.
  6. So? For exactly the same reasons - because of social pressure. Take that away and you would.
  7. I don't dispute any of that, but it still doesn't mean that 'lake' and 'atmosphere' are synonymous. Which, by the way, was originally raised in reference to post #3.

  10. Your skin produces Vitamin D in response to sunlight, so the skin problems you suffered are most likely related to a Vit-D deficiency caused by the reduced light exposure. Increasing your Vitamin D intake in your diet or using supplements ought to sort that out (if it's still a problem, that is).

  12. True, but that doesn't mean that (a) the lakes and the atmosphere are the same thing, or (b) that either of them exclusively contain methane.
  13. Why don't we build a floating party platform exactly half way between the UK and the USA. We've got about three years, after all.
  14. Interesting source if you want to know the etymology, but it's the common usage so I don't see how it can be "incorrect". I guess that's why they put correct in inverted commas.
  15. Fatal exception error: Too many queries ++ redo from start ++ ps - yes, it's 'octopi'.
  16. Well, we have until May 2007 to organise something. Maybe we will have finished the SFN Co-operative Mars Base by then.
  17. Haggy's post was blatant flaming, and nobody is interested in reading ed84c's running commentary on posts they have already seen.

    Ghosts

That's not a very good test. You only want one condition to change (i.e. the presence of insects). Smoking out the area for a few hours with a wide-spectrum insecticide would be better (although not a very nice thing to do).

    Sorry...

See, I keep reading this here and there among the threads, but it still doesn't change the fact that the man spent over $700,000,000,000. What has America got to show for it in the past 4 years? How does that compare to the average cost of running an administration? And so on.
  20. The cost of a manned Mars mission will be a couple of orders of magnitude larger than the cost of sending any of those probes, so not really.

  22. (That film is stupid.) Nocturnal species would be a bit confused.
  23. Since when do 'atmosphere' and 'lake' mean the same thing?
  24. Listen, I have a full-time job, I am doing a degree, and I have no fewer than five commercial projects in the works, as well as several web sites to look after, and on top of that I have to do all the things for myself that mummy does for you, so you can imagine where "telling yourdad something he can get elsewhere" comes on my list of priorities. The sarcasm is somewhat misplaced. If you can't wait it really isn't my problem.
  25. Had he typed more carefully it would have been about George Best.
