You should know better than trying to pass off the result of social influences as the result of biological mechanisms. If anything, this example simply goes to show the biology that underlies sexual preference cannot easily be indefinitely over-ridden. Also, do not under-estimate the frequency with which this occurs or the variety of different ways in which it does so - there are plenty of gay mums and dads and open marriages (homo, hetero and bi) out there. Actually, you weren't very careful about that at all.

Any particular reason why they should make that choice? And the punchline is that you have only shown that anyone (not just homosexuals) has the ability to choose whether or not to engage in sexual activity. You have not shown that gay people have the ability to choose to be "not gay".

That's not a very good test. You only want one condition to change (i.e. the presence of insects). Smoking out the area for a few hours with a wide-spectrum insecticide would be better (although not a very nice thing to do).
