Not just ads though. It will block any included content you can specify, which gives you some control over what useless space-wasting elements your favourite web pages display.
It lets you use wildcards and regular expressions to permanently block content.

Stick http://shittyadserver.com/ads/* into AdBlocker and you'll never see banners from that site again. It can even collapse the space the content appears in.
Yes, it's generally faster overall but some people seem to find it takes longer to start up.
