  1. I am basing my theory on experience of a medical student. She was constantly drunk. They let her use a scalpel and everything.
  2. No. That's a complete list above, and I don't plan to add any more.
  3. This is where you keep falling down. It is pre-programmed, just not in the way you are thinking. An Artificial Intelligence is programmed with rules that allow it to learn. Not only is it capable of learning, it is able to do it in a heuristic fashion, and it can teach itself to think in new ways. To a certain extent, this has already been done. The only question we need to answer is the "more intelligent than ourselves" part, for which we will need a common definition of intelligence.
  4. No, locking it stops the spam-fest from continuing. Comments about the debate can go up when the debate ends. I will reply to PMs in my own time thanks.
  5. Let's not forget that time is an axis here.
  6. Really? Also can I remind all moderators that the season is open on drivel posts.
  7. Can I just remind "certain members" that soliciting a mod's position by posts or by PM is not allowed. Ta.
  8. A technology forum won't get many posts, because virtually any thread about technology will be the natural child of a discipline we already have a forum for.
  9. Either under Biology > Exobiology or Physics > Astronomy.
  10. I'm still not sure why he sees a need to "move billions of humans into space".
  11. Try logging out then in again - sorted a few problems for me.
  12. The first book deals with those questions. That was the point.

    Atlantis

If Atlantis did exist, based on the historical evidence we have there's just no way it could be Ireland. Plato was not a stupid man, and he stated roughly where Atlantis lay. I think Erlingsson is picking out the bits he likes and ignoring those he doesn't.
  14. I'd love to see you back either of those statements up. That law applies to the universe as it is now, not before or during the creation of the universe. The laws of physics that operate in this universe could not very well have operated before it existed, now could they? Such as?
  15. Ants don't display intelligence, they only react to stimuli. The reason we cannot simulate an ant is not because we lack the technology - it's actually quite easy to do (ignoring species differences). We can't do it yet because we don't have a complete map of an ant's behaviour.
  16. "Increase urine flow" without a causal route is pretty meaningless. You might as well stick with the original "it makes you dehydrated".
  17. Depends what O/S you are using, and what kind of network you have set up. Factors will be your firewall, whether you connect directly or through a LAN, whether your IP is static or dynamic.

    bollocks

I think you can probably chalk that one up to dry wit.
  19. How is there anything involving America or its civilians/organisations that the President is not responsbile for? OK, the people who think he should have some magical power to be all-seeing and time travel to before the bad things happened to fix them before they occur are obviously part of a lunatic fringe, but the people who complain when a president washes his hands of something or makes excuses certainly are not.
  20. I think most people blame him for the things his office is responsible for, to be honest. (I'm not certain toes fall into that category)
  21. The point of private schools is to make money. Ta daaaa.
