  1. Just because the logic of the method wasn't "well documented" or universally accepted during period X doesn't mean it was never followed.
  2. What do you mean by "no cure for viruses"?
  3. Even if I did play chess "properly" I doubt I'd care. "Man in being detained shocker" is not that exciting.
  4. People ought to avoid posting Word documents, seeing as it's a dangerous format.
  5. And what's wrong with using the Bender bubble?
  6. What, no Rutherford? m0_0m
  7. Have you checked out the "Astronomy Links" thread?
  8. You'll find a lot of predators are lazy (although the term "lazy" suggests a conscious preference for inaction). In order to feed, predators normally have to expend a lot of energy capturing prey, with no guarantee of a return on the investment. There's a whole bunch of equations for working out predation strategies for a given food web.

  11. Hypothetically, if one were the sort of person who uses torrents, one would find this very appealling: http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/view_13890
  12. Yes, just like everywhere else in the world. Afaik there has been one death from plague in Britain in the past 10 years (at least), and that was from a rat bite. Plague kills around 1000 people each year world-wide.
  13. The cheap ones are the ERS-210, which is obsolete by quite some way. It could still be fun to experiment on though I guess, although being able to program it makes it a little unfair.
  14. I don't see how stating that a problem with Internet Explorer is a problem with Internet Explorer and not with Windows is the same as "defending Windows", particularly since Windows was not actually under any kind of attack, and I didn't defend anything. This is not the place, splitting thread. Thread split from here.
  15. I don't particularly think that's true. There's a difference between defending something just because you like it, and pointing out that a problem is with B and not A. If it was IE 5.2 on the Mac, I'd have made the same point. This is all terribly off-topic.
  16. Internet Explorer is the problem, not Windows. Anyone using a Mozilla, Gecko, or Opera build under Windows will have problems. If they don't work, you can bet that people using Safari on the Mac or Konqueror/equivalents under Linux will have problems too. Some handy links: Why design for cross-browser compatibility? 17. Not necessarily so. Firstly you have no idea what (if any) genetic basis there is for homosexuality, and therefore can't arbitrarily rule out that it is present in a population. Secondly you are assuming that a homosexual individual will never pass on genetic information, which is a pretty big assumption given that (A) we have documented observations of animals switching their sexuality back and forth under certain conditions, and (B) gay humans do it all the time. Thirdly you are ignoring the fact that the individuals in populations that have complex interactions are liable to adopt behaviours which are not specifically related to their own biology, depending on the needs of the group. What theme specifically? Both. No it isn't; it's based on a Darwinistic view of evolution only, which is nowhere near the whole picture. We've already done this dicussion over and over in the various long threads on homosexuality.
  18. If by "cheap" you mean $1400, then yeah.
  19. What does cross-fertilisation have to do with Stargate? You didn't watch it enough times.
  20. <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 5.0"> Ta daaaa. Strangely enough the MSN version works fine under Firefox.
  21. Starting with the Sophos one ought to save a lot of time.
  22. It was originally posted in the politics forum, and it's not unreasonable to consider that the O/P could have made a typo.
