  1. Do you know we got weaker? I'd have thought the average diet now is a lot better than it was 500,000 years ago, not to mention smaller parasite loads and a reduced number of impairments we can't counteract.
  2. True, but nobody I know makes a cake out of concrete If you mix the ingredients and leave them in a cake tin on the work surface, will you end up with a cake? No. The reaction only occurs because you heat the mixture to temperatures in excess of the boiling point of water. If all the ingredients reacted and made a cake before heating, there would be no need to invest energy in the reaction, would there? [edit] Actually it occurs that concrete and water have an exothermic reaction, whereas baking a cake is endothermic. They aren't really comparable. [/edit] Not necessarily. You're proposing there that all the water turns to steam, when in fact that has not been claimed. What has been claimed is that the water boils, which it most certainly does. Some of it does indeed turn into steam, and escapes into the oven. I don't need to experiment with this; I can simply recall all the occasions where I have checked on the progress of a cake, loaf or similar in the oven.
  3. Hmmm, the "related links" bit on the BBC is usually very good. Still, it's topical.
  4. This seems slightly relevant to the original discussion: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3418219.stm
  5. Someone else needs to vote or the rating won't appear in the forum
  6. Even if it's not well received, chances are it just needs tweaking. Not that I'm an expert on astronomy.
  7. It's quite a good site; users can read your articles and rate/comment as they see fit.
  8. Clearly we did not die out before we got intelligent.
  9. You could argue he uses the word "we" loosely j/k Cap'n.
  10. Wolfson, do you know what the replacement extinguishers are for Halon? I cba to google it
  11. "They don't need to be smart to survive?" If that's a reply to me, I have to wonder where the logic has gone from this discussion
  12. lol Atm were talking about sociopathy earlier on. It's funny because it's true.
  13. I was under the impression that we were giving our opinions, not inventing case studies. I'm not going to pretend I can predict how person #6473443 will react to an emotive issue, nor whether or not they'll be "right". [edit] I didn't say no-one would be affected.
  14. Who cares if they can be backed up or not? It isn't in the DEA's remit to worry about those things, much less control them.
  15. The DEA aren't responsible for the running of the prison service.
  16. Fair enough, but I wasn't aware we were supposed to be considering this from the point of view of anyone in particular...?
  17. But the fact that the data was generated by the Nazis (or indeed "why") is not an attribute of the data itself, it's further up the hierarchy. In nodal terms the data is a child of the method. The method and motive are siblings. The motive is not related to the data because there is no direct nephew connection that can make logical sense in an orientation of this sort. Of course, this explanation is only acceptable if you're not so susceptible to the accompanying emotional responses so it's hardly going to sway a war widow. The data itself doesn't have Nazi tendencies or a strange desire to shoot steam into people and see what happens, nor is it a medium for transferring abstract currencies such as motive, evil or emotion.
  18. a) If the argument is that people are currently suffering due to the use of the data, then I agree. b) I don't see the logic.
  19. You only bought it so you could swear at work, stop complaining. Oh yeah - and to crush that little girl too.
